HOW TO GET WHITEHAVEN BEACH TO YOURSELF!! | Camping in the Whitsundays
The Whitsunday Islands and Whitehaven Beach have been at the top of our bucket list for as long as we have wanted to visit Australia!
There are so many ways to see and experience the Whitsunday Islands. Instead of doing one of the popular sailing trips, we decide to camp on Whitehaven Beach for one night.
There are 11 campsites in the campground just a few short steps from the beach.
Day 1: We get dropped off at Whitehaven Beach around 10AM. After getting set up and exploring a few different trails and lookout points around our campground, we start a 16 KM return walk all the way to the opposite side of Whitehaven Beach.
We enjoy the breathtaking views of the swirly sands at Hill Inlet right at low tide before making the walk back. All of the tour boats and helicopters leave by 5PM and we have the beach to enjoy all by ourselves. It could not be more special.
The sun is setting as we make our way back to camp and we make dinner and settle in for the night.
Day 2: We could have easily camped for another couple days but sadly our time on Whitehaven Beach has to come to an end.
We enjoy the sunrise and breakfast and go for a quick swim before taking the hour boat ride back to Airlie Beach.
We booked through for the transfer to the island and all of the camping equipment. Our time on Whitehaven Beach is such a special and unique experience that exceeded all of our expectations!

'Monster' Cyclone Debbie Batters Queensland Coast
A powerful, destructive cyclone has pummelled the north-east Australian coast, making landfall as a Category 4 storm, and causing major damage and power cuts to tens of thousands of homes.
Dubbed Cyclone Debbie , the tropical storm has smashed through Queensland, and so far, caused one person to be seriously injured.
Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull had activated a disaster response plan, as the worst of the storm is expected to pass late on Tuesday.
As of this morning, the 50-kilometer-diameter eye cyclone, has been downgraded to a category-3 as it moved inland, but wind gusts have reached as high as 263 kilometers per hour.
A tidal surge was expected to flood low-lying areas near Mackay, as the storm whipped up waves and currents, and lifted sea levels.
Towns along Queensland's coast have been hit hard as the storm's first stop, with yachts along the Airlie Beach boring the brunt, on top of gushing heavy rains.
One man was injured after a wall collapsed in Proserpine, south of the beach, and had been sent to the hospital.
More than 30 thousand people, mostly tourists, were evacuated as the storm battered along the world-famous Great Barrier Reef.
Meanwhile, hundreds of schools were closed on the day, and more than 50 000 households remain without power.
Cyclone Debbie appears as the most powerful storm to hit the tropical state, since Cyclone Yasi destroyed homes and crops, and devastated island resorts in 2011.
