Jordan tour - The Ancient City of Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba
If you ever thought about visit Jordan - do it! There is no reason to hesitate, the country is save to visit and definitely worth it. There are numerous tours in Jordan if you feel saver with a guided tour, as for example Petra tours, Wadi Rum tours, or tours which combine both attractions in combination with Aqaba. Some of the tours do even start from Israel.
Our journey starts with a Map of Petra, Wadi Rum, and Aqaba and then visits the 3 amazing places.
Lost city of Petra
The Ancient City of Petra is famous the red sandstone in which the city is carved in.
Originally, the city was established at around 312 BC as, built as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans. Petra was rediscovered in the 19th century by Johann Ludwig Burckhardt. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Among other things The city of Petra was famous for the films Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Indiana Jones.
Inside Petra, you can enjoy views from The Siq, Petra Treasury, The Facades Street, The City Center, and much more.
Wadi Rum
Next Stop is Wadi Rum, a valley cut in sandstone and granite roc. You can explore Wadi Rum with severals tours, with a Jeep, a camel or even by an hot air ballon, called Rum Ballon.
In Wadi Rum you can camp at a bedouin camp, or a more luxurious version, the Wadi Rum Night Luxury Camp, which has these amazing Bubble Tree Camps for a night under the stars.
Aqaba
Our last stop in Jordan is Aqaba. Aqaba is located at the Red Sea and the perfect spot for diving and snorkeling, where you can discover shipwrecks and tanks.
Petra - Exploring the Amazing Rock City of Jordan
Petra, also known as the Lost City or the Red Rock City, is an ancient Nabatean holy city, carved into the rocks in southern Jordan. It’s an amazing place to see in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Check out my Amman travel guide:
On Day 6 of our trip to Jordan, we woke up in the morning, had breakfast at our hotel, and continued on to the gates of Petra. The entrance ticket price of visiting Petra is 50 JD ($70.23), which is on the pricey side, but well worth it to visit this incredible city. Before going into the gates, I stopped on the outside and purchased a keffiyeh (4 JD ($5.62), the traditional Middle Eastern checkered cloth headdress. After that, I was ready to go and explore Petra!
When you see pictures of Petra, at least in my case, you can’t really tell how big it is, or the scale of it - it’s not just one building on tomb, but it’s an entire city, spread out through the red rocks of Petra, through canyons and valley and rock mountains. So it’s a huge site that can take a full day, or even many days (if you had the time) to explore. So rather than just going to see a single attractions, Petra is like walking into a historical amusement city, full of surprises, mountains to climb, and ancient tombs to explore. Just for a bit of history, Petra was built by the ancient Nabateans, likely somewhere around the 300 BC date range. The Nabateans were a nomadic Arabian tribe who were specialist in trade, especially across the Arabian desert. They would run camel caravans and trade to lands across the desert, and due to their incredible desert and sky skills, they could navigate the desert and not only survive, but thrive. They made a fortune trading frankincense and myrrh, and doing so, they made a fortune. Similar to the ancient Egyptians, when the Nabateans became very wealthy, they started to think more about their after-life, and so they decided to build tombs within the rocks of Petra. At first I was thinking that the sites of Petra were temples or houses, but the majority, especially the fancy ornate rock carving at Petra are all tombs. The city of Petra eventually became deserted, and it was hidden for about a thousand years, before being rediscovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.
After entering the Rock City, you first walk through a slot canyon, which was the main roadway leading directly into the center of Petra. You can either walk, or they also have horse chariots if you want to ride. One of the most famous tombs at Petra is known as the The Treasury (Al Khazneh), which was named so because some people believed there was treasure hidden high in the rock above it. The Treasury, also a tomb, is one of the best preserved and most incredible things to see when you visit Petra. The tombs are carved directly out of the side of the red rock mountains, and what’s really interesting is that the Nabateans were influenced by many different civilizations, as one can tell from the construction. The Treasury has lots of Greek influence, along with Arab and local Middle Eastern details as well. We continued hiking, and visiting many more of the tombs around Petra. Another famous place to see in the city is The Monastery (Ad Deir), which requires a hike that took about 45 minutes. The Monastery looks remarkably similar to the Treasury, but it’s just three times the size. There are some incredible views, and from The Monastery, you can do some more small hikes to get some wonderful views of the rugged mountain rocks.
For dinner we headed to a restaurant in town called Al Qantarah - a nice restaurant housed in a rock building. Along with some fantastic fresh fish, that the owner of the restaurant had caught himself, we also had a main dish of lamb and rice cooked in a claypot. The lamb was amazingly tender and the rice was fragrant. Dinner was the best way to end an incredible day tour exploring the fascinating city of Petra.

JORDAN - Land of Wonders (Petra, Wadi Rum, Dead Sea, Amman, Jerash) | Travel Vlog 4k
Never in a hundred years would I have bet that I would be traveling to the Middle East the summer of 2019. The experience was truly humbling. From the majestic red sand desert of Wadi Rum, to the incredibly well conserved historical Seventh Wonder of the world Petra, to the bustling city of Amman, and to the unforgettable coasts of the Dead Sea. Jordan is a place with much to explore, from delicious Arabic cuisine to unique experiences. Camel riding, floating in the dead sea, desert sunsets, Jordan's got it all!
I am very thankful for my friend Adel and his family who have so generously invited my friends and I to come visit him in Jordan. Words cannot describe how much I owe him. Thank you brother for the incredible hospitality. Can't wait to see you again when I get back to Montreal.

JORDAN | Amman / Petra / Wadi Rum / Dead Sea / Wadi Mujib
This is one of my best adventures, we met a lot of beautiful people and kind souls during the trip. The locals are always very keen to help and fun to be with.
Jordan is such a beautiful country to visit and it has more than just #Petra, #WadiRum & #DeadSea. We arrived in Jordan with no specific itinerary and at the end we decided to rent a car to travel around the country. We had lots of fun!
I booked 2 nights in Wadi Rum with Wadi Rum Camp & Tours ( the host Mohammed is an extremely cool and helpful guy. He was very punctual when he met us at the Wadi Rum village picking us up on his 4WD to his camp. The location of the camp is perfect, it's deep in the Wadi Rum protected desert and right in front of the campsite, you see a beautiful mountain, looks like the Ayer's Rock in Australia, and there's nothing around the campsite which is so great. I was feeling literally like in the middle of the desert. The camp is amazing, the room and beds are very clean and comfortable, you get hot water in the shared bathroom, there's a common area for you to mingle with other tourists and dining. The host set up campfire every night and play music, after the dinner and you get to gaze upon the sky with shinning stars. It's such a wonderful experience. I would have to say the dinner prepared by the host and the family are the best I have had in Jordan, the grilled chicken is so well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, so moist and fresh.
The next day, I joined a jeep tour to explore Wadi Rum desert. Our guide, Abdullah is such a fun person. He showed us the beautiful spots in the desert for pictures taking, he ensured we had enough time to enjoy and he took very great pictures for us. He went extra miles when he offered us the sunset viewing which was not originally included in the tour we book. I forgot my GoPro batteries and he was so nice to drive us back to the camp, so I could get them. One hour before sunset, he drove us to a sand dune, he set up a mat, sisha, prepared hot herbal tea and cookies for us. We were just sitting there enjoying the beautiful sunset in the desert, that's really a paradise, there were wild camels walking around us. What else can I ask for?
Wadi Mujib is definitely a hidden gem of Jordan, its location is just about 30 minutes away by car from the hotel areas in Dead Sea. This is the most fun activity and the best day of my entire trip, canyoning in Wadi Mujib. Not only the canyon is extremely breathtaking, the Siq Trail we did, beginning right after the Wadi Mujib Adventure Centre, is very well maintained and safe. The entrance ticket is JOD21. There are guides at some parts to help and guide you where you are required to climb up the rocks against the strong water current. They are there to ensure our safety. I enjoyed so much and I am so glad I included this place in my itinerary. The whole trail you will be walking in the water, meaning you will be all wet, and if you don't have a waterproof shoe, you can buy one at the adventure centre at only JOD5, then you can embark on an adventure of a lifetime, and not hurting your feet. Every corner you walk in the canyon is so beautiful and worthy of instagram pictures. At some part you will have to swim and slide. In about 2 hours you will reach the waterfall, that will be the end of the Siq Trail, you can spend some times admiring the nature beauty and stay warm in the water, yes, the water is quite warm when I was there during the month of May. The whole trail I was not exposed under the scorching hot sun and yet the water kept me warm. For more information and details kindly visit the website below:
I highly recommend JORDAN if you are looking for a trip combining historical ruins, nature and adventure. Get a car in Amman at an affordable price and start exploring this incredible country.
