Whycocomagh Provincial Park
Whycocomagh Provincial Park has a campground under a mixed wood stand on the Bras d' Or shore on Cape Breton Island. A trail to 3 lookoffs on Salt Mountain starts within the park and takes about 1 hour to hike with the trail being extremely steep in places offering excellent views of the Bras d' Or Lake. We also saw many eagles during this hike as they glided overhead.

Clinging to the slopes of Salt Mountain, Whycocomagh Provincial Park is a popular campground that also features a short, but challenging, hiking path to several scenic lookoffs. They are worth the climb.

Salt Mountain Hike in Whycocomagh Provincial Park
Hiking in whycocomagh provincial park: there are a few different trails here and they very in difficulty level. when these trails are combined they make a fun 6km hike with some amazing views.
Difficulty level - moderate
Location: From Sydney take the trans Canada to Bras dor then continue over Kelly's mountain, continue on this route until you reach Whycocomagh the Provincial Park will be on the right hand side. 1 1/2 hour drive.

Yurt Camping Whycocomagh Nova Scotia Park
We spent two nights in the Yurt provided by Nova Scotia Parks at Whycocomagh Provincial Park in Cape Breton. These are setup differently than the Yurts setup at Kejimkujik or at Fundy National Park.
The big difference is that each yurt at the park (there are 3 of them) are at the top of Salt Mountain and overlooks a section of the Bras d'Or lakes. The yurt sits on top of a wood platform which in turn is a huge deck.
Sleeps 6 and a BBQ is provided (with propane). They even thought of putting solar lights, something that we didn't think of when we were at Kejimkujik.
For 55$, this is a very good option for those who don't want to haul gear or have kids or are in a group. My only complaint is that the insulation layer makes a bit of noise when the wind starts up.
Next stop will be the Yurt in Fundy National Park!

Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground - First night in Cape Breton in the Boler
The first night stayed in Cape Breton was at the Baddeck Cabot Trail Campground. We had no idea what to expect when we got there, and we actually looked at it quick, then check out a campground across the road. We returned and decided to stay. It turned out to be a really nice place to camp. A deep ravine hid a nice little stream, the showers were hot and NOT on a timer! And there was a campers lounge even with pool table, coffee, etc which was all really nice. We would definitely stay there again and would recommended it!

Graves Island Provincial Park Nova Scotia
This is one in my series of Nova Scotia Provincial parks. We ended up camping here over the Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian one in October). This is one of many nice camping parks in the area.
They have great trails that are groomed for hiking and biking. If you are looking for a good place to camp while on the south shore of Nova Scotia check this place out.
While in the area there are many places to check out like Oak Island, Chester, Liverpool, Gold River.
