Dig Village Dunster Videoblog 6 - The dovecote
The picturesque dovecote supplied Dunster castle and priory with pigeon pie at least twice a week. Tim uses retrospective map analysis while studying some visible features to understand the structure of the Priory.
MINSTER LOVELL HALL
The extensive and picturesque ruins of Minster Lovell Hall are located in a beautiful rural setting beside the River Windrush. Approached from the north, through the adjacent churchyard, the 15th century site comprises a fine hall, tower and complete dovecote nearby - making this a particularly interesting day out for anyone considering a visit. Minster Lovell Hall was originally home to Richard III's henchman Lord Lovell, one of the richest men in England. Although designed to serve as a symbol of great wealth, following several changes of hands the hall was abandoned - then dismantled and demolished - in the 18th century, leaving only the fascinating remains that stand today.

The Dovecote, Wolverley, Worcestershire
The Dovecote is a delightful home with heritage.
A Georgian Grade II Listed building with a Listing statement of
'Mid-C18 with some late C20 alterations. Two storeys with attic lit by circular windows in shaped gables, with finials; dentilled brick cornice. First floor with semi-circular headed window with top-hung C20 casement to each side flanked by two blind circular windows, ground floor with blind arcade with semi-elliptical central recess flanked by two smaller semi-circular headed recesses: Entrance in west front has a C20 panelled door flanked by two fixed casements.'
Originally The Dovecote was associated with Wolverley House which has now been converted into a select development of apartments and houses. The setting is quite unique, the property itself similarly being as individual in character as anyone could
wish for.
It is approached via a little lane The Shortyard with the private driveway to the Wolverley House development, which takes one past the main house itself, after which the impressive outline of
The Dovecote roof will then be seen with its own private entrance way. The first full view of the property is impressive, it offers accommodation over four floors but has a most delightful external faade. The mellow brick work with fine lime mortar joints, impressive arches and fine brick work fairly takes ones
breath away.
If you are seeking the unusual then The Dovecote genuinely will provide the individuality that is so rarely available within a budget that by todays standards is most affordable. The property stands in its own grounds of just over half an acre with driveways, garaging, seating areas, lawns, orchard all of which gently slope down to the adjacent pasture land and flood plain of the Stour Valley.
