Wickham Park is a nonprofit, private foundation in Manchester and a small part of East Hartford, Connecticut. The park contains 250 acres of gardens, open fields, woodlands, ponds, picnic areas and sports facilities, among other attractions.

Wickham park Connecticut knockerball new England

We got to have a little funny with some engineers at wickham park a couple weeks ago, everyone had a blast.

Wickham Park

Wickham Park which straddles Manchester and East Hartford, Connecticut is a fabulous place. It features many garders including the English Garden, the Oriental Garden, the Italian Shrine Garden, the Lotus Garden, the Cabin Garden, the Wetlands Garden, the Rhododendrum Garden and the Sensory Garden. There is also a bird sanctuary and an aviary. The park also has playgrounds, a disc golf course, tennis courts, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits. Plan on spending a full day there to take it all in.

We stop at the petting zoo located after the 11th hole at Wickham Park East Hartford Conn. 4/12/12

Hiking Gillette Castle State Park - East Haddam, CT

Our hike begins at the castle to enjoy the scenic view overlooking the Connecticut River and the towns of Deep River and Chester. After, we descend to riverbank and enjoy the small beach areas near the ferry landing.

Upon returning to the top, we conclude the day by hiking the Railroad Trail and some unglazed trails that return to the riverbank.

Gillette Castle was constructed atop the Seven Sisters hill chain in East Haddam by William Gillette in 1919. In 1943, the property was purchased by the State of Connecticut and has since become a beautiful state park that highlights the scenic Connecticut River Valley.

Panoramic Maps, also known as Bird's Eye View, aerial view, or perspective maps. These were a popular form of art at the turn of the 20th century depicting a city's key points of interest.

Unlike traditional maps, Panoramic maps often highlighted the commercial aspects of a town, while also clearly showing many local residences.

I've had a lot fun looking up places I've been to on these maps -- and I've gotta say - It's amazing just how much things change -- and also how much things stay the same.
