Widnes is an industrial town in the unitary authority of Halton and the ceremonial county of Cheshire in Northwest England. Historically in Lancashire, Widnes is on the northern bank of the River Mersey where the estuary narrows to form the Runcorn Gap. Directly to the south across the Mersey is the town of Runcorn. Upstream and 8 miles (13 km) to the east is the town of Warrington, and downstream to the west is Speke, part of the city of Liverpool.
Before the Industrial Revolution Widnes was made up of small settlements on marsh and moorland. In 1847, the first chemical factory was established and the town rapidly became a major centre of the chemical industry. The demand for labour was met by large-scale immigration from Ireland, Poland, Lithuania and Wales.
Widnes and Hough Green railway stations are on the Liverpool to Manchester line. The main roads through the town are the A557 in a north–south direction and the A562 east–west. The disused Sankey Canal terminates in an area known as Spike Island.
Widnes is situated on the north bank of the River Mersey. The whole town is low-lying with some slightly higher areas in Farnworth and Appleton. To the south of the town a spur projecting into the river forms the West Bank area of Widnes; together with a spur projecting northwards from Runcorn these form Runcorn Gap, a narrowing of the River Mersey.
As a town with a relatively short history, Widnes has few historical sites. However, reclamation of chemical factory sites and areas formerly polluted with chemical waste has given opportunities for developments. These include Victoria Promenade at West Bank, alongside the River Mersey, and Spike Island, now cleared of industry, which forms an open recreation area leading to footpaths along the former towpath of the Sankey Canal. Adjacent to Spike Island occupying John Hutchinson's former Tower Building is the Catalyst Science Discovery Centre.
Much of the architecture of the town is undistinguished but there are a number of listed buildings, many of them in the more outlying areas but some are scattered throughout the town. The listed churches are the Anglican churches of St Luke's, Farnworth (and its adjacent bridewell), and St Mary's, West Bank, the Roman Catholic churches of St Michael's, St Marie's and St Bede's, and the two chapels in the cemetery. The railway stations of Widnes and Hough Green are listed, as are the former town hall and the former power house of the transporter bridge.
Widnes is on the southern route of the Liverpool to Manchester railway line. There are two stations, Hough Green and Widnes from which services are operated by Northern Rail and East Midlands Trains. The A562 road passes through Widnes linking Liverpool to the west with Penketh to the east. The A557 road passes though the town linking Runcorn to the south, via the Silver Jubilee Bridge, with the M62 motorway, some 2.5 miles (4 km) to the north.

Old Widnes to Runcorn Transporter 1960/61
Rare film of the old Widnes/Runcorn transporter taken just prior to being knocked down after the completion of the new bridge. Great mix of classic vehicles here. Notice too that the bridge has only 2 lanes, as opposed to the 4 it has these days . .

Homeless in #Widnes #Cheshire. Due to #FarRight Simon Bosworth & Ex lies
For years its been the same.
Nolan credit to me for being a nice faithful but to her 'Bring liver'. loads of men secretly and openly messaging and ringing her.
Sometimes in my own kids bedrooms like with #Steohencoventry and #Farright Britain First paul Golding and Andrew Edge.
They contrived with her to get me arrested out of the way for 'highly exciting' to attention seeker Free Vodja Orgy that Andy has with slappers tarts he chats up.
Here is the lying thieving Twonk, his last Jail sentence.

Top 10 Worst Places to Live in England
Get more Tips here! destinationtips.com
According to ilivehere.co.uk, which has been compiling this list for more than a decade, with the votes from thousands of readers, these are the WORST places to live in England.
10: Blackpool
Once famed for its golden mile, Blackpool now conjures up images of drunken stags and hens, falling over in the street and spewing on themselves, before retiring to a grotty seaside B&B.
9: Oldham
The most deprived town in England according to the ONS, where the streets have been described as “graffiti covered, fly-tipped shells of what they once were”.
8: Sunderland
has the highest rate of teen pregnancies in Europe.
sexual offences, violent crime and theft are all on the up and are higher than the national average. (I’ve seen policemen on pedal bikes chasing chavs in stolen cars. You might not believe it but I really have seen it!)
7: Gravesend
One voter comments: I have lived in Gravesend all my life. I have visited many other crap towns across Kent like Lewisham, Dartford, Chatham and so on and not one so far, has even came near to being as chav infested as Gravesend.
6. BRADFORD
A Commenter says: Bradford is literally hell on earth. The city centre resembles a squalid cess pit, full of monstrous partially demolished 60’s concrete office blocks, Pound shops, amusement arcades, prostitutes, heroin addicts, Eastern European car-jackers, Asian drug dealers, pre-pubescent mums and mad alcoholic tramps having arguments with themselves.
Being the sixth largest city in the country, in terms of population, it now boasts another famous serial killer...
5: ROCHDALE
One in seven people in Rochdale had no qualifications at all. Weekly earnings were £413 on average last year, compared to £676 in London.
4. SCUNTHORPE
A town once voted the least romantic place in the country.
Apparently Maccy Ds is a chav’s staple diet. Well the small town of Scunthorpe has 3.
3. LUTON
One commenter points out; on Christmas day the local McDonalds gets busier every year”
Black, White, Asian it doesn’t matter, everyone looks like they’re trying to escape or have given up hope on life itself.
2. KINGSTON UPON HULL
based on official government statistics, Hull is the worst place to live in England.
1. DOVER
Apparentñy Dover only beat Hull by 16 votes.
One reader comments;
Let us for a moment imagine that the British Isles are the silhouette of an old man. Scotland is his cap, Cornwall his toes, Anglia his curved spine, making Dover his herpes infested s**t-hole.
Which do you think is the Worst Place to Live in England?
