Wied il-Mielah valley is located in Gharb, north-western corner of Gozo island. Wied il-Mielah Window (It-Tieqa ta’ Wied il-Mielah) is a natural megalithic archway over the sea similar to Azure Window in Dwejra.

The other natural window in Gozo at Wied il-Mielah

Nature gave Malta-Gozo the Azure Window at Dwejra and nature took away. But nature also gave Gozo another window, the one at Wied il-Mielah that is attracting the same popular admiration.

Wied il Mielah Gozo

The Wied il-Mielah Window is at the end of the Wied il-Mielah Valley and is, unlike the more known Azure Window, on the west coast of Gozo.[ The road from Għarb leads directly to the coast; parking is available on the plateau on natural ground. Directly at the end of the valley, parallel to the old river bed, there is a narrow staircase along the rock to just before the window, almost to the water. Since the ceiling of the window is still thick, you can still enter the window above.

The valley of Wied il-Mielaħ is rich in flora and a lovely place to walk especially in the autumn and spring.

The way down the valley is like a botanical display of vegetation typical of the Mediterranean.

Yellow rather than green is the primary colour here especially from late autumn until spring, when many fields bloom with the small yellow flower of the Cape Sorrel.
