The Wild Animal Sanctuary: Kamal The Tiger
The The Wild Animal Sanctuary is located in Keenesburg, CO and situated on 720 acres of rolling grassland.
Since January, 1980, The Wild Animal Sanctuary has responded to more than 1,000 requests from private citizens and government agencies to rescue animals from across the United States and around the world. The animals living in the Sanctuary today were abused, abandoned, illegally kept, or were victims of other terrible situations.
The illicit exotic animal trade is the third largest source of illegal profits in the world today, just after illegal drugs and weapons. In the U.S. alone, there are an estimated 30,000 captive large carnivores living outside the zoo system.
There are 4,000 Tigers living as pets in private homes just in the state of Texas, which is more Tigers than exist in the wild throughout the world.
Countless other large carnivores live in abusive conditions in roadside zoos, circuses, magic acts, traveling shows, and other substandard situations. Untold numbers of animals suffer and die each year due to neglect, abuse or because they are abandoned and left to die, starving and alone.
Celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Bob Barker and others have donated and supported The Wild Animal Sanctuary. Learn more at wildanimalsanctuary.org.

This week on +The Mia Connect Power Chat, we are going to completely mix it up and talk with Animal Sanctuaries & Rescue Organizations around the country.
+The Wild Animal Sanctuary (right here in Colorado) will join us to talk about their amazing facility and the efforts they are making to care for exotic animals that have been rescued from deplorable situations or were abandoned:
TWAS has been rescuing exotic wildlife and endangered species since 1980, and is currently home to more than 290 Lions, Tigers, Bears, Jaguars, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Lynx, Bobcats, Servals, Wolves, and other wildlife. These animals were abandoned, abused, illegally kept, or came from other terrible situations. The vast majority of the animals were so-called pets - and were confiscated by law enforcement officials - usually within the first six months of their lives. The sanctuary also provides a permanent refuge to surplus animals from zoos and other wildlife facilities, where they face euthanasia due to over-breeding
Founder #KathyNobles of #GoingHomeAnimalRescue :
Going Home partners with small municipal shelters and rescue groups, mainly in rural areas that do not have the resources or adoption pools metropolitan areas do, and transport dogs and some cats to receiving rescues in areas of the country where there is a need for adoptable companion animals. Presently we are partners with about 30 shelters and rescues throughout Oklahoma and the northwestern part of Arkansas. In addition, Going Home arranges 4 to 5 major transports a month to receiving rescues in Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota
+Leila Martin from +Jim Burwell's Petiquette will also join the panel! Leila brings 30 years experience in dog (and people!) training!
+Carolyn Capern will also join us to talk about a cause near and dear to her heart: #PawsForPeace and +Harbor House of Central Florida.
The Paws for Peace Kennel is a state-of-the-art facility that serves as a national model for on-site kenneling at domestic violence shelters and opened in December 2012
Harbor House seeks to eliminate domestic violence in Central Florida by providing safety, shelter, empowerment, education and justice
We'll also be talking about a new initiative called +Plus Your Charity that is sweeping Google Plus. It's so crazy good!
A big shout of thanks to #TheElephantSanctuary - they were not able to join us this week since they have a group of students helping them and are focusing on the elephants but look for them on a later show - they are AMAZEBALLS !

Grumpy Tigers at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado
These four lovely tigers are currently housed in The Wild Animal Sanctuary's Tiger Roundhouse, and apparently were rather grumpy this morning! Make sure you have your sound on for this one-- there's a good deal of grumpy tiger noises being made :)
(I apologize for some of the shakiness of the video-- I've never really used this camera for motion pictures before and was just learning what I was doing)
The Wild Animal Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that cares for large carnivores that have either been voluntary or court-ordered surrenders all over the world. It is also the oldest Wildlife Sanctuary in the United States, and houses a large collection of tigers, lions, bears, foxes, wolves, leopards, jaguars, servals, bobcats, mountain lions, and more!

(and no, I'm not a volunteer there-- I just think it's a fantastic place where exotic pets can enjoy a comfortable and enriched life away from the abuse they previously suffered)

Circus animals find safety in US state of Colorado
There's an exodus underway of carnivore animals like lions, tigers, bears, wolves and leopards. They are being shipped from zoos and circuses around the world to a sanctuary in the U.S. state of Colorado. New laws and higher standards for animal care have helped prompt this growing trend.
