A small select great group of paddlers headed out towards Del Rio, TX, to spend three days and two nights paddling the remote Devils River May 2015.

Friday May 8 was a travel day which included a brief stop at Dziuk's Meat Market and again at Fort Clark Springs (Las Moras Springs) where Susan went for a swim. Then off to Del Rio for a bite then wine tasting at Del Rio Vineyards. Finally we headed north to Who Cares B&B run by Marlene which was an experience (all in a good way) unto itself. We had a great pre-trip evening hanging out with Marlene and her son Travis (our driver) and his wife that evening. Even Max had other dogs to play with, in addition to chasing chickens (yard birds) and ducks that roamed around.

This is our story, with two notable exceptions:
– Devils River State Natural Area at 15 miles was our second night's campsite. We camped on an island at ~7.2 miles in (islands are legal).
– At Dolan Falls we portage river *left* and lined our boats down one of the shoots. Except for Carolyn, who ran it. And Bill, who went river right, dropping his boat and gear in then jumped in and floated downstream until he could beach and sort things out.
– Did I mention the thunder storms that started at 2AM on our second night and by 4AM was directly over us?

Saturday May 9 Put-in at Bakers Crossing going ~7.2 miles for our first day and camping on an island (29.901660, -101.095846). We spent a fair amount of time dragging our 'yaks but weather and scenery were awesome.

Sunday May 10 Mother's Day was spent getting to the Devils River State Natural Area where we had campsite reservations. Very hot, very scenic, and a *lot* more dragging - the most 'work' out of the three days.

Monday May 11 Take-out at Gerald Bailey’s house. The wee early morning hours were spent in thunder storms; some tents stayed dry, others not so much. No rain during morning packing but it was all around us and stayed that way through very early afternoon before the sun finally took over. Otherwise this was our most exciting day for rapids including the awesome Dolan Falls and fun Three-Tier rapids. Challenging and worth it!
