Lions in Addo Elephant Park - South Africa Travel Vlog (Day 6-7)
We saw LIONS IN Addo Elephant Park!
Days 6 and 7 of our South African adventure continue with something special.
A full day open vehicle safari in Addo Elephant National Park and we got an early and cold start. We had the car just to ourselves, cause it's winter and not many people wanna do this when it's freaking cold.
The first two hours were a bit difficult, but who knew we had a special day ahead of us...
There's an option to self drive through Addo Elephant National Park, but I would strongly recommend getting a guide. The park is huge and you can easily get lost. Plus, the guides know where all the animals could be and will easily take you there. Totally worth the money.
Make sure you lower your expectations, because although there's a lot of wildlife, you never know what you will see. This is the real bush.

SOUTH AFRICA lioness puts her cubs in safety, Kruger national park
We saw 4 lions (one still very young) and 1 lioness (with cubs) just north of Lower Sabie. The young male was reluctant to join the others (where I wrote lioness was reluctant please read the young male was reluctant). The lioness put her cubs (seven!) in safety. Very touching when the mother, with a cub in her mouth, turned to one of the cubs saying: I come back and get you too.

THE BEST SAFARI IN SOUTH AFRICA
Stay at the amazing Garden Route Lodge:
✏︎ AMALIE'S INSTAGRAM:

If you are going to South Africa there is no question about it. You NEED to go on a safari trip. Even if you are staying in Cape Town there are plenty of good options for some epic wildlife action.
We took the car four hour east along the beautiful Garden Route, where we stayed at the luxurious Garden Route Lodge.
But it wasn't just because of the luxurious accommodation, we picked this lodge.
Garden Route Lodge is known for its vast reserve that houses almost all of the iconic African animals.
And we certainly didn't miss out. We had two safari trips. One in the afternoon and one early morning next day.
It was INCREDIBLE, and a bucket list experience we will never forget. The adrenaline of seeing a giant elephant walking past you just three metres away has to be experienced for yourself in order to understand how epic it really is.
Of course there are many amazing game reserves in South Africa, but it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Garden Route Lodge offers the best safari in South Africa, unless you of course go on the seven day long safari trips in Kruger National Park.

Horse Safari South Africa
A horse safari is a unique experience. To see rhinos, hippos, girafs and other animals on a horse was for us one of many high lights along the garden route in South Africa. The whole movie was taken on a horse without any possibiliy to stabilise.

Cape Town and the African Safari
South Africa is one of those destinations that dreams are made of: surreal mountain landscapes and sublime seascapes, world-class wildlife safari, luxurious jungle lodges, cultural vivacity and history of the people, cosmopolitan cities and isolated Zulu and Shangaan villages, excellent South African wines and cuisine. With an immensely varied terrain and a rich natural diversity, South Africa offers a wide range of experiences and is a delight for the senses. This tour will become a highlight of your life.
During our South African adventure, you will spend 5 days in a luxury designer on the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town, exploring the vibrant city of Cape Town and the magnificent area that surrounds it. You will explore the Cape of Good Hope, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet, walk on the Boulder Beach among the colonies of African penguins, take the cable car to Table Mountain and hike to beautiful vistas overlooking the city. You will also tour the Groot Constantia Vineyards in the South African Winelands with its renowned wineries, see the Kirstenbosch Botanic Gardens to walk on carpets of exotic flowers, stroll in quaint fishing villages and towns with impressive Cape Dutch architecture.
The most memorable part of the tour will be the 5 days spent at a safari at the luxurious, yet authentic Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve, part of the Sabi Sands and the Kruger National Park ecosystem. Here, you'll experience the true magic of Africa: enjoy two daily game drives (safari) to view the Big Five (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhino), bush walks and visiting local villages and learning about the Tsongas people who once lived on this land alongside the animals.

Glamping Safari in South Africa
The world famous Kruger National Park in South Africa is a natural invitation to people from around the globe. Over 2000 square kilometers offers the chance to come face to face with nature and what it provides for its long term residents; the Big Five of course, lions, leopards, the African elephant, rhinos and buffalo, all of which are the most dangerous to track, therefore dubbed the 'Big Five'.
My Jabulani Experience
The elephant is an amazing creature. The old saying, 'an elephant never forgets' comes true when you experience not only Jabulani, the rescued infant elephant who is now a very content, always hungry and always playful 16 year old teenager, and his entire adopted family of ten who have found one another after a difficult start and have become one family in the wild. Under Lente and Adine Roode's understanding and care they live a full life in the wilds of their native home. Though many attempts were made to relocate Jabulani to beyond the reserves spaces he and the others always returned. The elephant is very wise and incredibly sociable. If it is abandoned by its herd it is almost certain death. They need daily social contact, that which makes them so totally adorable. This is what they have found at Jabulani Camp where they are more than content to meet us humans and show off a bit. This is definitely not a tourist trap. It is all about the animals, interaction and caring. I was lucky enough to be riding on Jabulani's broad back and what an experience.
Hamiltons Tent Camp, Kruger National Park
At Hamiltons Tented Camp we are greeted by Given and his colleague Ronald, our butlers during our stay, provided with a fresh herb and wild flower scented wash cloth, a champagne flute of fresh juice and taken into what feels like a film set of colonial style 'Out of Africa'. Everything is tented from reception which is stylishly simple; an old antique writing desk in what simply appears as an extremely comfortable living room, boasting comfortably cushioned couches, a library of books, wine cellar, port and brandy selection to suit any taste and all that takes you into the comfort of panoramic viewing, open style, to whichever four legged visitor happens by. Traditional and personal service is not missed at Hamiltons.
Buffalo Camp, Kapama Private Game Reserve
13000 acres of land and one of the largest privately owned reserves in all of South Africa.
We travel from Kruger National Park to its neighbouring Kapama Private Game Reserve, owned for generations by the Roode Family. The family actually started on the land as cattle farmers, but quickly realized that cattle and the Big Five do not make up exactly a good recipe for co-existence! The camp started approximately 17 years ago when there was no hot water available, only caldrons to heat the water over open fire. Now it remains small with only 10 tents, making it very intimate and welcoming but with all the modern facilities you could ever want. Everything is about personal service. The staff is small in number but superb when it comes to hospitality.
