Sophie's Wild Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of the most intense urban regions in the world, yet over 75% of the land space is natural, undeveloped and mountainous, offering homes to some amazing wildlife.
While I was working there earlier this month, I became quickly fascinated by the juxtaposition of these two contrasting worlds and the lack of awareness about the wild spaces among the local people.
In this video, I briefly explore the wild side of Hong Kong, as well as touching on its concerning disconnect with wildlife. Let me know what you think in the comments below! x

Complaints about emboldened wild boars and their families have tripled in recent years across the territory, where Hongkongers are coming up with a range of different solutions to handle the growing piggy problem.
Have you seen all of Hong Kong's wild animals?
SCMP.tv visited Kadoorie Farm and Botanic Garden to chat with animal expert Gary Ades about the indigenous animals of Hong Kong. We compiled images of some of the most common animals including: snakes, bats, wild boars, monkeys, masked palm civets, leopard cats, and barking deer. Mr. Ades talks about the animals you can see in Hong Kong, where you can see them, and the consequence of urbanization.

After graduating from the University of Hong Kong 13 years ago, Mok Ho-Kwong started living off-grid to protect the earth and named himself “Yeah Man” (similar to the Cantonese pronunciation of ‘wild man’).
Living in a remote village, Mok grows his own vegetables, makes fire with sticks and gets water from a creek. Together with his family, Mok has been inspiring more Hongkongers to live a green life.

Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here:
In the hills of Hong Kong, 62-year-old beekeeper Yip Ki-hok has learned to use his bare hands to collect wild bees and harvest honey.
Yip said the key to his success is being able to use a precise amount of finger strength sop queen bees are not injured or killed by his movements since other bees in the hives are drawn to her.
