It’s Day 38 of New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year where we are doing 365 Days: 365 Activities! Today’s activity is a speedy ride down the Whanganui River by jet boat! We’re going with Forgotten World Jet for a ride in a jet boat on the Whanganui River and into the Whanganui National Park.
Watch us as we speed along in a jet boat on the Whanganui River, doing sharp turns, drifting and 360-degree spins. It’s a wild ride into part of the Whanganui National Park known as the Forgotten World.
The high speed jet boat ride is part of Forgotten World Adventures and can be teamed up with the rail bike tour we did yesterday ( This tour departs from Taumarunui.
So, would you take the Forgotten World Jet Boat down the Whanganui River?

Fly Fishing New Zealand | Trout on a Volcano
Mount Ruapehu, also known simply as Ruapehu, is an active stratovolcano at the southern end of the Taupo Volcanic Zone in New Zealand. It is also the headwaters of many famous trout rivers. The popular Tongariro, Whanganui and Whakapapa rivers all begin their journeys here.
This clip was made on a river well off the beaten tourist track. Land access must be granted and hiking the river can be very arduous. Often requiring the navigation of deep gorges, runs with boulders the size of cars and ‘iffy’ crossings. It’s really best to go with a buddy, but I know the river well and always carry a PLB. The fishing however, is something to behold. Hope you enjoy it.

Whio (blue duck) relocation, Mount Aspiring National Park
In February 2015 we helped DOC rangers relocate three whio (blue duck) into the Mount Aspiring National Park. It's fantastic to be able to support such a great conservation project and ensure the whio can be enjoyed by future generations.
