This trail is the only self-guided hiking trail in the area. Other trails require a Navajo guide.
This hike is very easy and flat except for a short sandy descent/ascent at the beginning of the trail.
The unique landscape of giant buttes offers an amazing scenery that has been used in countless movies, including Back to the Future 3 and most recently The Lone Ranger.
The desert vegetation is abundant and horses can be seen at times.

Monument Valley Wildcat Trail
A video from a few years ago, from my first fantastic road trip and long holiday in the South West of the USA in April / May / June 2015.
This was one of the most memorable places from that trip. Although only spending one night and day there, I always remember looking through the window of the motel (Goulding's Lodge), and seeing the perfect view of the mysterious majestic sandstone stacks of Monument Valley, poking out of the vast, pristine desert landscape (I had arrived at the motel late the previous night in the dark).
So on Tuesday 12th of May, I spent most of the day at the Valley, the highlight being this hike on the Wildcat Trail. It felt like walking on another planet, wading through the deep sand, seeing these gigantic monoliths towering above, the wind whipping the sand into whirling dervishes of sandstorms.
Spending time in this place evoked all sorts of nostalgia for me, as it stroked some of my fondest memories of movies, commercials and soundtracks, and it's meant as a partial tribute to:
Fry's Turkish Delight UK TV Advert from the 1980s:
The movie Dune by David Lynch:
And most importantly, Brian Eno's soaringly beautiful Prophecy Theme from the Dune soundtrack:
(Any copyright infringement in the soundtrack to this video is intended to benefit Brian Eno and his music).

This was our 10th day into our road trip in the south west of the US.
Today, we are going to have some fun into the Monument Valley National Park.
This was the best place we have visited so far and remained the high point of the whole trip to me.
Amazing views, lovely weather, off-road fun! What else was it to ask for? :)

KOA Monument Valley
KOA Monument Valley was a work in progress when we stayed. There seemed to be a lot of work/improvements being done. It's small so it fills quickly. This video gives you a quick look at the campground. Check out our full review of this campground on our website using the link below.

Monument Valley, land of the Dine (Navajo) Nation, feral horses, dinosaur tracks.
In late Fall, during a week of cold, sunny days, Greg Feet and Patricia Sparks explored the land of the Dine (Di-NAH), or Navajo, people, by car but mostly on foot. We saw dinosaur tracks, feral horses, native American rock art or petroglyphs, and amazing geological structures. The Dine people impressed us the most, with their sincere kindness and good nature.

Ancient Ruins in the US: House on Fire in Utah
In the Cedar Mesa area of SE Utah, you can find a lot of Anasazi (Ancient Pueblo) Ruins to visit. This particular one is one of the easier one to access as there is not much driving needed on unimproved/dirt roads. On this trail, if you walk a mile in, you will see the famous House of Fire ruin. Most people turn around here. We knew there was more of a trail we downloaded in our gps ahead of time, so we kept going. There were two other ruins we saw along the trail- one half way to the end and one at the end. There may have been more, but we were not keen enough to spot them. Let us know if there are other sites to see in the comments below.
County Road 263 is also known as Texas Flat Road, it connects to Arch Canyon. You will head north on this road. (County road 236 is almost across the road on 95. Do not take this as it goes south.)

Monument Valley (Navajo: Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii, pronounced [tsʰépìːʔntsɪ̀skɑ̀ìː], meaning valley of the rocks) is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor.[1] It is located on the Arizona–Utah border (around
36°59′N 110°6′WCoordinates: 36°59′N 110°6′W), near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the territory of the Navajo Nation Reservation and is accessible from U.S. Highway 163.
Monument Valley has been featured in many forms of media since the 1930s. Director John Ford used the location for a number of his best-known films and thus, in the words of critic Keith Phipps, its five square miles [13 square kilometers] have defined what decades of moviegoers think of when they imagine the American West.
