Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Wilderness Ridge to Central Lincoln . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン市 )
Today's adventure takes us from the very southern tip of Lincoln, at S. 27th Street and Rokeby Road, up north through suburbs, many commercial areas, Lincoln's Country Club area and the heart of Lincoln, finishing at 27th and O Streets (the exact mirror of the North Central to Central Lincoln video).
Some better streets along this route. I remember when I was a kid, Lincoln's south boundary was three miles north of where this video begins. Lincoln has grown rapidly towards the south since then and continues to do so, although the great recession has slowed things a bit. Now the big push is to grow east, it seems.
The trees are beginning to flower and bud - you can feel spring in the air. Please enjoy the video!

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Rosemont to Mahoney Park . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we journey around Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.'s northeastern side, going between and through former small towns that now make up Lincoln (northeast Lincoln is pretty much all a collection of former small towns).
We begin on what would be almost the northern edge of the former small town of Bethany. Here we travel on Leighton Avenue, a minor collector. This street is a nice, fast route from the N. 33rd and Cornhusker Highway (U.S. Hwy. 6) area - east (and vice-versa). With speed limits recently made higher and minimal traffic, one can bypass many bottlenecks pretty fast! The only hiccup is traveling east past N. 70th Street. Developers must have thought that the city would end somewhere around Kahoa Elementray School, so Leighton T's for half a block until it begins again. Another Capital Parkway moment...
We soon turn north into what is a real bottleneck on N. 48th Street - the former small town of University Place. There's been a few master plans on what to do with this narrow, busy roadway through the central business district of Uni Place for years but not much has been done since they were drawn up. The latest is to crate a pedestrian corridor on St. Paul Avenue, widen 48th to accommodate turn lanes where possible and install new traffic signals. The only problem is money. The master plan before that was not well received - it was to reroute 48th to the east and west of Uni Place.
Further north, we turn onto Fremont Street and eventually straddle the former small town of Havelock. This is another short cut from the N. 48th & Superior to N. 56th & Vine Streets areas. Finally, all the way east on Fremont is Lincoln's Mahoney Park which we do a loop through. Mahoney Park (and Golf Course) is a nice park with ball fields, a playground and walking trails. Murdock Bicycle Trail (formerly the Rock Island Railroad) borders the northern edge of the park, so here is a convenient place to park and get onto the trail - bike into the countryside.~
One other thing of note about Mahoney Park... my memory is a little foggy since I was just a kid, but if I remember right, around the 1980's, a kid was run over and killed in the crosswalk at 10:32 during the evening hours. I don't think they ever found the driver but I could be wrong. It's been so long ago already! A sad situation but not a bad omen to the park.
Anyways, please enjoy the ride!
Timeline:
00:15 - Northbound on N. 70th Street.
00:37 - Westbound on Leighton Avenue.
1:44 - N. 63rd Street intersection. Lincoln Northeast High School is three block away on the right.
2:14 - Whitehall is directly on the right.
3:57 - Northbound on N. 48th Street. Entering the Uni Place Central Business District.
4:13 - Huntington Avenue intersection. The Lincoln Police Department's Northeast Team Station is half a block away on the right... hence the police car seen in the Walgreens parking lot to scare speeders in the 25mph zone.
4:49 - St. Paul Street intersection. The main entryway into Nebraska Wesleyan University is two blocks away on the right.
5:10 - Cleveland Avenue intersection. Huntington Elementary school is on the right past the intersection.
6:11 - Eastbound on Fremont Street.
7:34 - Anderson Branch Public Library is the red brick building that can be seen for a second on the far left.
7:54 - Touzalin Avenue intersection. The Touzalin Arboretum runs down the middle of Touzalin Ave. from Adams Street to Havelock Avenue. It is a pretty old, unique arboretum that features linear-planted trees. It was damaged pretty bad during the 1997 (200 year) snow storm.
9:30 - N. 70th Street intersection. Entering Mahoney Park just after the intersection.
10:22 - Now on Olson Lux Memorial Drive. The Mahoney park Golf course is almost directly behind us to the south.

Car Camera - U.S. 77 - Crete Interchange to Lincoln, NE . 2013 ( アメリカ国道77号線 )
On our final leg of the Halloween journey, we roll into Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. on U.S. Highway 77.
I don't know for fact, but I believe U.S. 77 from Nebraska Highway 33 (Crete Corner) up to Saltillo Road and later north was one of the first expressway-grade highways in the state of Nebraska. It was nicknamed The Turnpike back in the day... perhaps mid to late 70's or very early 80's (I need to double check my maps). Still, at the old national speed limit of 55 (mph - back then)... it was nicer than a regular highway but not much faster than even a paved county road.
In the late 80's or early 90's, U.S. 77 broke off of it's curve onto what thereafter was named Warlick Boulevard (State Link L55W) and continued it's long-planned march north towards (& finally to) Interstate 80. The stretch between Warlick and I-80 has had three names over the decades... first it was The West Bypass (being west of Lincoln back then), then Salt Valley Roadway and now it's the Homestead Expressway all the way to Beatrice. Yikes!
Once we get north of Pioneers Blvd., U.S. 77 unofficially becomes a freeway. Someday in the future it will be an official freeway (upgraded) from I-80 down to the Roca/Crete interchange (once there is funding). Also once there is funding, the South Beltway that will route NE Hwy. 2 around Lincoln will join up with 77 just south of Saltillo. Man, how long do we have to wait?
One thing that has always intrigued me is the idea of Interstate 31 beginning in Kansas - with the possibility of I-31 going through Beatrice, Lincoln, Wahoo, Fremont and up to Sioux City (at least that's one of the options):
I could only dream of the day that a new Interstate would grace Nebraska... especially in this part of the state :D !
Anyways, thanks for watching, reading and enjoy ^^ !

Car Camera - NE 79 - Valparaiso to Prague, NE . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州道79号線 )
Think Nebraska is only flat? Look again ;) . On this ride we travel into what is known as the Bohemian Alps of Nebraska... rolling hills where Czech immigrants settled - an area that reminded them of their homeland..... in fact, we travel to the town of Prague, Nebraska, U.S.A. (from Valparaiso) - go figure :p !
This area is really beautiful, especially during the summer. Unfortunately now, it's winter, so it can't be helped... but one can imaging the green that would be here a-half-a-year from now, including fields of towering corn, etc...
...and unlike it's namesake over in the old country, Prague here in Nebraska has only something like 303 people. Whopper vs. Whopper Jr.
Anyways, as always, please enjoy and Happy New Year ^_^ !

MIDWEST HOLIDAY 1952 TRAVELOGUE FILM CHICAGO LAKE MICHIGAN MISSOURI NEBRASKA WYOMING 62354
This short 1952 travelogue, presented by Standard Oil Company and produced by Wilding Picture Productions, Inc., follows a road trip though the American Midwest by a Chicago reporter back from assignment in Europe. The film opens with a shot of a street and buildings in Chicago, IL, followed by the door to the Editorial Office of a newspaper. The reporter, Dale Bennett, returns from vacation an meets with his editor to discuss his vacation. Bennett drives his station wagon down a highway (02:10). Bennett swims in Lake Michigan, and then he watches beach cars (dune buggies) racing on the sand dunes of Lake Michigan. He walks into a woman painting at an easel on the beach. Bennett pulls into a Standard Oil gas station (03:30), where he buys a finished painting from the woman from the beach (Connie). He pulls up on the side of a road where Connie and her father are stranded with their car and trailer. Bennett gives the car a push start, but Connie’s dad leaves the car without putting it in park, and it rolls down the hill and off the road, crashing into a tree. Bennett pulls the trailer with his station wagon, and the trio arrive at Interlochen, MI. Kids play various instruments at a music camp (07:06). Connie and Bennett sit outside the trailer and chat. A bugler plays “Taps” at sunset with the lake in the background (09:18). Next, they visit Spring Mill State Park, IN, where they see an old water wheel. That is followed by a visit to New Salem State Park, IL featuring the restored old log buildings from the days of Abraham Lincoln (10:12). Viewers see a tugboat on the Mississippi River, a bridge taking the trio into Hannibal, MO (11:00) and the childhood home of Mark Twain, the War Memorial in Kansas City, MO and a view of the city’s skyline, the state capitol building in Lincoln, NE (11:47), Boot Hill Cemetery, and the oil derricks of Oklahoma City (12:20). From there, Bennett, Connie, and her father pass Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains next to Colorado Springs, CO. They drive through Rocky Mountain National Park (12:40), and they take in the views from an alpine lake. There is a good panning shot from Trail Ridge Road (13:18). Next, the film goes to Grand Teton National Park, where the rocky peaks loom over what appears to be Jackson Lake (13:40). They arrive at an entrance to Yellowstone National Park (14:48); footage shows Upper Yellowstone Falls, Old Faithful (15:20), and a black bear next to a road. The ride horses at a dude ranch in Montana and fly fish on a river. Viewers see a wheat field in Montana (16:30), as well as several combine harvesters as they drive through the field. The film shows shots of Mount Rushmore (17:03), South Dakota’s Badlands, and another wheat harvest (in North Dakota). The next place they visit is Minnesota’s Itasca State Park (17:43) with its massive pine trees. Kids play at the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Viewers see the Mesabi Iron Range where iron ore is mined (18:07), Duluth and its port on Lake Superior, and a scenic overlook from a Wisconsin highway featuring a lake. A boy and his dog push off from a dock in a canoe (19:05). The trio see more sights, including small falls on Wolf River, Wisconsin Dells, and a dairy farm. The film then shows the entrance to the Iowa State Fair (21:18): Connie and Bennett walk around the grounds, ride a Ferris wheel, and watch a livestock show. Bennett pulls his station wagon and Connie’s trailer into her hometown, a small midwestern town. The film cuts back to the newspaper editor’s office, where Bennett shows his editor Connie’s paintings of the Midwest (23:58). The film concludes with a shot of Bennett and Connie at a bandstand performance at a park in Connie’s hometown.

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Pioneers Pointe to Seacrest Range . 2014 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we once again venture into southwest Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A... from around the Nebraska State Penitentiary area (Pioneers Pointe) to just west of southwest Downtown Lincoln.
Southwest Lincoln is a really interesting area of town... comes in a flavors and varieties :p ! The area around the Lincoln Regional Center looks like a small town of it's own. If I remember right, was this area once called Calvert??? Not sure, but still interesting :p . If you're ever on Pioneers Boulevard on a spring or summer day, stop by a cool little plant nursery - B & B Greenhouses at S. 1st and Pioneers. Variety and at good prices :D !
At S. Folsom & W. A Streets, something is definitely funky with that stop-hazard intersection light. Blinking way too fast :o .....
Anyways, once again, please enjoy the ride :) !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - Echo Hills to Timber Ridge . 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today's drive is a request from a subscriber (a subscriber request, yay!). This subscriber requested a video with some fall foliage, so I did some thinking and chose A Street here in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A.
I've been holding off on doing a car camera video of this street for a while because, 1. this street is a traffic light H-E-double hockey stick (always red, too). Even though the traffic lights are bad, 2. tons of traffic use this road... hmmm (this video was shot during rush hour). ...and 3. the road is in bad shape. Even though A St. has these poor things counting against it, there are tons and tons of beautiful, established trees along it in cozy, established neighborhoods. The weather worked out just right today, so A St. it is :D !
This video, I believe that this is the first where I've gone from one side of the city to the other. Including the traffic light stops, it takes a little over 30 minute... but not too bad when I see some larger cities where it takes a our and a half to do the same :p .
A couple more things about this video - we catch a Ambulance backing up at the Fire Station at about 5:54... nice light show (prefer Federal Signal, though - I believe this Ambulance was originally fitted with Whelens)! Also, before turning... at about 17:45, gott'a love the SUV cutting through the closed road! Hmmm :o .....
Anyways, the leaves are beginning to drop en-masse today - not too sure if I can get another video of the fall colors next week if they continue ~_~ . Anyways, thank you for the request and hope you & everyone enjoy the video ^^ !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - The Lincoln Race Course to Cheney. 2013 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン )
Today we travel from the rural countryside-to '80's-era suburbia-to current suburbia-to bedroom community. This was the last nice day of the year - now winter is here ~_~ .....
We begin by what is beginning to take shape of the new Lincoln Race Course - a horse racing track. At one time I thought it was going to to be names Goldenrod Downs???... maybe that was the name when it was proposed at N. 84th & Havelock. Ho-hum, oh well, anyways, we begin near there and slide our way northeast to Old Cheney Road. With the new traffic configuration at Warlick Boulevard & Old Cheney, it feels like one is going to armageddon with the sign forest leading up to the intersection :p hahah!
Around here is where we enter 1980's suburbia. Tight right-of-way and wide roads. I remember when I was a kid, the edge of Lincoln was north of Old Cheney, Old Cheney was a two-laned roadway and all around were fields & trees. Not-so-much anymore. One now has to go a few miles to the south to be at the edge of Lincoln.
Bump-after-expansion joint-bump we go down Old Cheney, we pass by the Williamsburg Village Shopping Center on the right at about 6:14. At S. 56th Street & Old Cheney, at about 8:30, this intersection ~should~ be redone with the S. 56th St. project that will happen south of the intersection soon. At around 9:19, it appears that we run into a volunteer fireman from the newly named Southeast Fire & Rescue Department, formerly named the Southeast Rural Fire Department. At 11:02, crews are beginning the prep work for road widening.
It is here, at 11:02, we begin entering modern suburbia. It pretty much continues all the way until 18:01 where we enter the bedroom community (village) of Cheney. Lincoln has no plans of taking over Cheney I believe... in fact they've rerouted roads (and have plans to reroute more) in a way so that most people avoid Cheney. One can wonder, though, what Cheney will be like one day when Lincoln totally surrounds it. Hmmm.....
(at 14:01, here on S. 98th St., this is a road that HuskerzGBR regularly takes in his videos. A shout out to you, whoop whoop :p ~heh)
Anyways, please enjoy the ride on this beautiful day :) !
Timeline:
00:20 - Eastbound on the county portion of West Denton Road.
00:29 - South Folsom Street intersection. Lincoln city limits begin approximately here (entering Lincoln, not signed). The county portion of W. Denton Road ends and the city portion begins. The Lincoln Race Course is just straight ahead (building that can be seen).

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - East Central Lincoln to Downtown . 2012 ( ネブラスカ州リンカーン市 )
Kind of an overcast, autumn day here in Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. - the leaves are turning, falling to the ground and there's a chill in the air. Our journey today takes us from about the center of town to the south side of Downtown Lincoln.
What's along the way mostly going down Lincoln's main street, O Street (U.S. 34)? Hints can be seen before, but the Nebraska State Capitol (the tallest building in Lincoln) can be seen entering the picture on the left at 4:41 and at 6:38. Historic Wyuka Cemetery, in the old days almost like a city's public park when people used to hang out underneath the large oak trees to stay cool in the summer heat (when it was on Lincoln's eastern boundary) is seen beginning at 2:39. A couple of famous old actors are even buried there. Broadcast House at 2:24 on the left... and Union Plaza, part of the massive Antelope Valley Project finally nearing completion, at 5:12 (we go over one of it's bridges - it's down below within a manmade creek bed).
Hope you enjoy the ride!
...and as a side note, sorry about the shakiness at the red lights. I was nearing an oil change which I completed yesterday (synthetic blend!) and that took care of the problem...
