Eco-Lodge Stay at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand | Tha Yang, Thailand
I wanted to spend some time at an elephant sanctuary or rescue centre in Thailand. While researching, I found Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand. I decided to stay at their eco-lodge - I Love Phants Lodge.
I stayed for 2 nights in a little bungalow that backs up to one of the elephant enclosures. I also toured the facilities and saw all kinds of animals that WFFT helps (my favourites were the gibbons).
When it comes to travel and animals, you need to do research and make sure you are putting your money into a place that is ethical and really takes care of the animals. I felt good about putting my money into WFFT. I like how they help all kinds of animals in need, not just elephants.

Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand - Day Trip
Some of the animals we saw at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand on our 1 day visit there. WFFT is a great place because it offers a way to see some of the animals from this part of the world without contributing to their trafficking and abuse. Highly recommend the trip!

Charity Hua Hin Thailand organised Friday 27 October a trip to the Wildlife Friends Foundation (wfft.org ) for all children of the Hua Hin orphanage.

Elephant volunteer's in Thailand
In this video a good look at the work of elephant volunteers or keepers. Please note that since 2009 not one elephant at the WFFT elephant refuge center is ever chained up, even at night! WFFT is the ONLY organisation that NEVER does or ever again will chain elephants. We have 5 paddocks with large pools of up to 20,000 square meters for them to roam around.

WFFT Highlights - January 2019
Here are some of the highlights at WFFT this January. Watch 2 otters play when they were finally paired. They had been acclimating to each other in adjacent enclosures for some time. When the tunnels were opened, they couldn’t contain their excitement and immediately took off to romp together.
Two porcupines from our massive temple rescue last year were moved into a large grassy enclosure shared with civets. They walked on grass for the first time after years of living in a concrete hole.
Picha was one of our more distinctive rescues this month. She had a lock and chain around her neck when we arrived and was very grateful when they were finally removed.
As for regular caregiving, one of our elephants gets eye drops for conjunctivitis, and our baby tortoises were dewormed while fresh grass was laid in their enclosure. We also released a hare and monitor lizard this month!
Joe, a beloved macaque, passed away. He lived to be over 28 while the life expectancy of macaques in captivity is 25. He spent his first 25 years living in a rat and feces infested hole. His last 3 years at WFFT were spent in a large grassy forested enclosure with fresh foods, friends, and freedom. RIP Joe. We miss you.
WFFT 2018 RECAP
2018 was a big year for WFFT. We rescued 4 elephants, hundreds of wildlife, released hundreds more, built new enclosures for our orangutans and macaques, and secured 13 acres for future projects. We couldn’t have done any of this without our donors, sponsors, volunteers, guests, and dedicated staff. Thank you all for your numerous and varied contributions.
A big shout out to Joan and Co. for sponsoring the rescue of 4 elephants this year. We look forward to seeing you again in January!
Thank you Dr. John Mcgillivray for your continued donations and for upgrading our wildlife hospital with state of the art equipment. We are now able to treat our patients with more precision and efficiency.
Thank you Mike Beets for funding Maggie and Chico’s enclosure as well as exciting new “secret projects” on the horizon.
Thank you Margot Homburg for funding our new dog and cat spay/neuter clinic opening next year.
Thank you, EXO Foundation, for the grant that helped us build our new P5 Primate Park.
Thank you Dr. Shirley McGreal (of International Primate Protection League) for your continued support over the last 15 years and for leading the way in primate conservation throughout the world.
Thank you to all other sponsors and donors, big and small. Every bit helps and goes towards saving lives.
Thank you to our passionate and enthusiastic volunteers. We love getting to know all of you from all over the world.
Thank you to our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to care for our animals, volunteers, and center. You are the heart of our expansive WFFT Family!
And a final thank you to all other guests and followers, for learning about our animals, sharing their stories, and spreading awareness about wildlife welfare.
Together we have saved and cared for so many lives. With your continued support, 2019 will be another great year of visionary progress!
