While on our trip to India we stopped at the Wildlife SOS Elephant sanctuary. We got to spend a day helping care for the elephants that have been rescued from being tortured and are now getting loved and cared for. If was by far an amazing experience and a highlight of the trip. This organization is not only saving animals they are employing over 250 locals, purchasing goods locally and transforming entire villages. A must visit if you are in Agra or a must to donate to if you want to help wildlifesos.org

Like the monsoon rain that drizzled throughout the night, Agra Bear Rescue Facility where our travel blogger, Abhishek visited the day after witnessed a blissed scenario. Accompanied with fresh smell of forest, he made new furry friends, who enjoy playing in the various enrichments like tires and balls. While some lazed under the soothing sun, some demanded for fruits. We visited Wildlife SOS' Elephant Conservation and Care Centre near Agra to check out the amazing work they do caring for and rescuing elephants.
Wildlife S.O.S - Rehabilitating the Sloth Bears - #IndiaMyWay | Discovery Channel India
Visit Wildlife S.O.S and discover how they rescue and care for sloth bears that were once used for entertainment, on #IndiaMyWay. This is the world's largest rehabilitation centre for sloth bears. The objective for Wildlife S.O.S was to put and end to a brutal practice that went on in India for 400 years, where these bears was removed from the forest and sold to a community called the Kalandars. They have taken 628 bears off the streets till now.

Black Cobra snake catching by Wildlife SOS India at Agra
This Black Cobra Snake has sneaked into front Verandah of our Agra home today and hid behind a flower pot. Our pet Lucy spotted it and due to her persistent barking, my wife Poonam and daughter Aadyaa were alerted. Poonam informed me on phone. At that time I was 100 km away from my home. I called up Mr. Baiju I/c of Wildlife SOS Agra, who promptly acted on my request and their snake rescue person reached my home within 45 minutes. You can watch the skill of snake catching person of Wildlife SOS in this video. I'm heartily thankful to Wildlife SOS, Agra for their timely action and extend my all praise to Mr. Baiju and his team. I've been hearing regarding the thankless job they have been doing in many rescue operations and today witnessed the same myself. Please keep it up. Congratulations and best wishes to Wildlife SOS, Agra.

Darling, Let Me Go Wildlife SOS Rescue and Release Highlights
This is a small compilation of wildlife that you've help us rescue from poachers, human-wildlife conflicts, or other treacherous situations. We've got leopards, jackals, bears — even cobras and ducks. Just a very few of the species you help us rescue!
Agra Bear Rescue Facility, India
We had the chance to visit the Wildlife SOS operated Bear Rescue Facility in Agra. The team here do an amazing job caring for rescued 'Dancing Bears'.
In 1996 research indicated that there were more than 1200 ‘dancing’ bears scattered throughout India. With cooperation from Government officials, and the help of our partner organizations, Wildlife SOS has been able to rescue and rehabilitate over 620 dancing bears. They are now living peacefully in four large natural sanctuaries across India, enjoying a life where they’ll never again have to endure such cruelty and pain.
In December 2009 they rescued what they believe was the last ‘dancing’ bear in India putting a stop to this horrible trade.
Gajraj's Journey To Freedom
After 51 years as a temple elephant Gajraj, the 70 year old magnificent tusker, was rescued & has safely arrived at the Elephant Conservation and Care Center. Catch his rescue journey as he traveled 1500 kms from Aundh, in Maharahstra to Mathura, in Uttar Pradesh accompanied by our expert rescue team.

Python rescued by Wildlife SOS in Agra
A 5-foot-long Indian Rock Python was rescued by Wildlife SOS from a Carpet Export company located near Sikandra, Agra. The reptile is currently under observation and will be released back into the wild, once deemed fit by the veterinarians.

Wildlife SOS specifically addresses the problem of injured and sick elephants that are forced to work in slums and crowded cities. Our aim is to reach out and help the elephants living in urban environments that are wounded, malnourished and dehydrated or those being used illegally and commercially under deprived conditions. Currently we offer medical services to these needy elephants and train their handlers, ‘the mahouts’ on humane treatment and management of these gentle giants.
