Switzer Provincial Park-Gregg Lake Campground (Sample Trail)
Gregg Lake Campground in William A. Switzer Provincial Park (north of Hinton, Alberta, Canada). I am always wondering what kind of campground (or specific site) to expect when I head someplace new. Sure I can book ahead of time online (which you can do for this campground during high season), but who knows what you'll get?
I thought I would take a few quick video's of this campground to help anyone else out there who might be thinking of visiting it for the first time. I've been here many times myself.
The campground is split up into several loops. Loop A is isolated by itself and nearest the registration booth. Loops B, C, D & E are clustered together as are loops F & G. The L (or Lakeside) Loop is just over 2km away from the F& G loops and about 2.8km from the registration booth.
This campground has a nice little amphitheatre located between the E & G loops. Events occur throughout the summer.
There is a shower facility between the E & F loops and a little store in the registration booth (ice cream, little goodies, wood, ... ).
Walking trails connect this entire campground. Some are also rated for mountain bikes. Gregg lake has some good fishing; high powered boats are NOT allowed on the lake. There is also a swimming area, playgrounds (little ones in most loops and a slightly bigger one in the day use area - beside L loop).
Yes - I've got a bell on my bike. Please ignore it. And as always, my commentary is just that - my comments alone.
I hope someone out there finds this handy. I'll try and post a link to a map of the campground once I put it up somewhere.

WildHorse Campground1 (Alberta, Canada)
Video of WildHorse campground on Monday August 5, 2013. Nice little remote group site in western Alberta, Canada. This is part 2 of 2. The only area missing off these videos is the site at the far back of the campground which can hold another group of tents.
Wood was provided at the site, but that's about it. The outhouse was a little run down and the camp kitchen was in okay shape. Coin showers were about a 5 minute drive down the road at another place.
GPS coordinates to plug into Google maps: 51.656954,-115.352598
This upload was originally intended to be used a proof of the great condition we left the campground in after the Furthest North 2013 convention ( But I thought for people possibly wanting to see this site - I might as well open it to public viewing.

Wild Sculpture Trail of Sundance Provincial Park (Sundance Creek Valley and Hoodoos)
#WildSculptureTrail
Along the trail you will observe incredible sandstone formations naturally sculptured by the wind. Certain parts of the trail offer a spectacular skyline view of the Sundance Valley. From here you will have a clear view of the blue lakes below. Along the trail there are many fresh water springs. The length of the trail 1-way is 9 kilometres. Please be aware that you will be traveling on active logging and oilfield roads.Location: Follow Switzer Drive to the Valley District, turn left onto the Willow Creek Road turnoff. Drive 5 kilometres and turn right at the Emerson Creek Road. Take a right. Follow Emerson Creek Road signs until you get to Emerson Lakes Campground, approximately kilometre 59 on the yellow signs. Continue for 8 kilometres past Emerson Creek Campground and you will come to a parking lot. There should be a sign stating Wild Sculpture Hiking Trail. At the entry of the trail there is a small booth, which should have information about the trail.
#1 of 1 trails in #SundanceProvincialPark
Wild Sculpture Trail is a 13.7 kilometer lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Yellowhead County, Alberta, Canada that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from May until September.
Distance:13.7 km
Elevation Gain:440 m
Route Type:Out & Back
camping, hiking, nature trips, bird watching, forest lake views, wildlife blowdown, & over grown off trail.
The Wild Sculpture Trail is approximately 7 km in length (one way). The hoodoos occur between km one and two, making them accessible to those who desire a short, spectacular hike. Please treat the hoodoos with respect, as the soft sandstone sculptures are easily vandalized and eroded. The forest in this area reveals the diverse plant life that is specifically indigenous to the area. Abundant populations of beaver and waterfowl can be observed on Beaver Lake. Moose, deer, bear, marten, and many types of songbirds are only some examples of the other species that also call this valley home. There is an un-maintained trail that travels further into the Park from the south end of the Wild Sculpture Trail. This un-maintained trail travels along the north side of the three lakes found within the Park. There are also several un-maintained creek crossings – travel this trail at your own risk and be prepared for a wilderness experience. The Wild Sculpture Trail is a hiking trail for people with moderate hiking experience. The trail has very little overall elevation gain as it follows the Sundance Valley.
