Alnwick Bondgate
The centre of town is the marketplace, with its market cross, and the relatively modern Northumberland Hall, used as a meeting place. Surrounding the marketplace are the main shopping streets, Narrowgate, Fenkle Street, and Bondgate Within. The last of these is a wide, spacious road fronted by attractive commercial buildings. In mediaeval times, Alnwick was a walled town (although fluctuating economic situations in the Middle Ages meant the walls were never completed), and one remain—Hotspur Tower, a mediaeval gate—is extant, dividing Bondgate Within from Bondgate Without, and restricting vehicles to a single lane used alternately in each direction. Pottergate Tower, at the other side of the town, also stands on the site of an ancient gate, but the tower itself was rebuilt in the 18th century. Its ornate spire was destroyed in a storm in 1812. Outside the line of the walls, the old railway station building is relatively ostentatious for such a small town, arising out of its frequent use by royal travellers visiting the Duke and Alnwick Castle. It is now a large secondhand bookshop. Source: Wikipedia

Rimless Armitage Shanks at a Service Station
Has quite a long interesting flush for a change
The First Rimless Sitting Armitage Shanks
I first saw this toilet on video.I think they are quite common in England.
I didn't expect to see it in Hong Kong.Normally I don't pay much attention to the sitting toilets, unless they are worth my attention.
I think this toilet is quite unusual.I think it is worth a visit if you have not seen something like this before.
It is in the same toilet as the previous video. They are side by side.

10 Things You Did Not Know About Alnwick
For more information please visit
Alnwick and the 10 things you didn’t know
Alnwick dates back to about ad 600 and always thrived as an agricultural centre. The town centre hasn’t changed much but overall it has seen some growth with several housing estates and new factory and trading estate developments being built along the roads to the south.
The name Alnwick comes from the Old English wic ‘dairy farm, settlement’
Alnwick was formerly a rural and agrarian community, the town is a good and reasonable commute for people working in Morpeth and Newcastle upon Tyne so has a sizeable commuter population with some noteworthy employers also in the town
In 2018 Alnwick made it into the top ten list of locations in the North where ‘the quality of life is best’
The town’s greatest building by far is Alnwick Castle, which is one of the homes of the Duke of Northumberland and site of The Alnwick Garden, dominating the west of the town. Alnwick Castle was once the home of the most powerful medieval northern baronial family, the Earls of Northumberland. Between 1945 to 1975, it was the location of a teacher training college for young women and “mature students”. It is the second largest inhabited castle in England, after Windsor Castle. The castle is open to tourists from April to September, and the Gardens are open all year around. It has over 800,000 visitors a year and is famous for featuring in the Harry Potter movies. Built in the late 11th Century, the castle is now one of the region’s top visitor attractions. Children can dress up as Knights, hide in the stocks, take on Dragon Quest and even join a broomstick flying lesson in the grounds. You can visit in the warmer months and there is enough to keep you busy for most of the day. The castle is popular with film-makers and Blackadder, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Harry Potter have all been filmed there
You will find Alnwick Garden adjacent to Alnwick Castle. It is a beautiful place to go for all ages and there are often special events running at weekends and during school holidays. Their Garden of Fairy Tales trail is definitely one not to be missed by the kids. Children can enjoy the water features, tractors, maze, rose garden and much more. It is also home to its very own treehouse which is a magical place to dine with all the family
The town has a thriving playhouse, a multi-purpose arts centre, which stages theatre, dance, music, cinema, and visual arts productions
In 2003, the Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre replaced the old sports centre and was opened on the southern outskirts of the town. Alnwick boasts a wealth of sporting and leisure facilities, including football, cricket, rugby, rambling, rock climbing, water sports, cycling and horse riding and golfers can find thirteen golf courses within 30 minutes drive of the town
Bailiffgate Museum is an award-winning family-friendly museum that has been recognised as one of the top 25 places to visit in the whole country for early years
There are still lots of markets held in Alnwick Market Square offering fresh local produce, arts and crafts, jewellery, soft furnishings and household items, as well as a Farmers & Craft Market which is held on the last Friday of every month. There is loads to see and amazing local fresh produce to buy, as well as children’s entertainment
Alnwick Food Festival is held in September with 2 days of street food, local produce, chef demo’s and children’s entertainment and it really is a great event
So we hope you have you learnt some things you didn’t know about Alnwick from Ashington Removals and Storage, it really is packed full of history and charm with lots to do and see for all the family, so why not visit there this summer.
