Yakushima in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan - Relaxation for body, mind and soul
Yakushima (屋久島) is an island off the southern coast of Kyushu and part of Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan.
The island is covered by an extensive cedar forest (nearly 90%) that contains some of Japan's oldest living trees. That`s why some areas were declared as a Natural World Heritage Site. The island has a rich nature with Jōmon Sugi trees that are older than 1000 years, a beautiful sea, waterfalls, wild monkeys, deer etc. Surrounded by this unique nature, our presenter Sam could completely relax body, mind and soul. You can easily come here from Fukuoka by aeroplane within 60 minutes.

Excerpt of 2013 interview with the Royal Botanic Garden's Tony Kirkham about plant explorer Ernest Chinese Wilson who collected specimens for the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew. In 1897, at the age of 21, Wilson began work at Kew, where he won the Hooker Prize for an essay on conifers. He then accepted a position as Chinese plant collector with the firm of James Veitch & Sons, who were eager above all to retrieve the dove tree, Davidia involucrata. Me (Mike) and Liam has applied for a workaway job in Japan
and We got accepted at the place called Yudanaka.
It's a small city, an hour away from Nagno that offers you so many beautiful sceneries, and traditional food and lovely people.
The main attraction of this area is a Monkey Park. A place where you can see the monkeys up close..I mean really close...!

Yakushima
Yakushima is one of the Ōsumi Islands belonging to Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. The island, 504.88 km² in area, has a population of 13,178. Access to the island is by hydrofoil ferry, slow car ferry, or by air to Yakushima Airport. Administratively, the whole island is the town of Yakushima. The town also serves neighbouring Kuchinoerabujima. The majority of the island is within the borders of the Kirishima-Yaku National Park.
Yakushima's electricity is more than 50% hydroelectric, and surplus power has been used to produce hydrogen gas in an experiment by Kagoshima University. The island has been a test site for Honda's hydrogen fuel cell vehicle research.
