Wilsons Prom, VIC | Climbing Mt Oberon for Sunrise plus a three day hike!
We climb to the top of Mount Oberon for sunrise! We then threw on our backpacks and hit the trails of Wilsons Prom for a three day hike to Sealers Cove, Refuge Cove, Waterloo Bay, and Oberon Bay.
Wilsons Promontory (or Wilsons Prom for short) is located in the Gippsland region of southern Victoria and is host to some of the most beautiful coastal walks in Australia.
On this three day hike we walked over 40kms, and camped at Sealers Cove, Little Waterloo Bay and Tidal River.

Wilsons Promontory Marine National Park has received a Global Ocean Refuge Platinum Award, honouring the park’s exceptional protection of marine life. It is the first park in Australia, and only one of six in the world, to receive this award.
The award provides international recognition of the park’s management and exceptional marine biodiversity, research and conservation, which is only possible thanks to the dedication of over 30 partner organisations and volunteers working with Parks Victoria.

Point Lonsdale is a coastal township on the Bellarine Peninsula, near Queenscliff, Victoria, Australia. The town is divided between the Borough of Queenscliff and the City of Greater Geelong. Point Lonsdale is also one of the headlands which, with Point Nepean, frame The Rip, the entrance to Port Phillip. The headland is dominated by the Point Lonsdale Lighthouse. At the 2016 census, Point Lonsdale had a population of 2,684.

Wilson Promontory Melbourne
Wilsons Promontory National Park is on a peninsula southeast of Melbourne, Australia. It’s known for its rugged granite mountains and abundant wildlife, including kangaroos and wombats. Trails from the Tidal River settlement lead to Squeaky Beach, with its white quartz sand. Nearby, Mount Oberon offers views of the Bass Strait and offshore islands. Wilsons Promontory Lightstation, built-in 1859, is on the southern coast.

Wilson's Prom Overnighter - Little Waterloo Bay
An overnight trip to Little Waterloo Bay for my 25th birthday - start at Telegraph Saddle Car Park (Mt Oberon car park) and travelled to Telegraph junction and east towards Little Waterloo Bay. Return trip was the reverse, 11.8km hike one way which took 2 hours 50 minutes to little waterloo bay and 3 hours 20 minutes back to the car park the next day. An awesome little get away which ended up being a very big challenge

We have had lots of interest in our Wilson’s Promontory Cruises, and in particular in one of the places we visit – Skull Rock! Correctly known as Cleft Island, this granite rock belongs to a group of three islands called the Anser Group.
The western side of the island has a gigantic cave with a grassy floor, that was probably carved by the sea when the sea levels were much higher, thousands of years ago. The Island is 113 metres high, and the water around it is 40mts deep! The cavern is 130 meters wide, 60 meters high and 60 meters deep - you could fit the Sydney Opera House inside it.
From a certain angle, the island looks like a skull — hence the name Skull Rock — complete with a big cranium, an eye socket (the cave) and the bridge of a nose. The cave was once thought to be used as target practice by passing ships!
The island is practically inaccessible with tall vertical cliffs and no
place where a small boat could come ashore and anchor. Because of this, few people have set foot on the island or explored the cave. Those who have, reportedly discovered cannon balls inside the cave.
More people have walked on the surface of the moon than have done at Skull Rock. One of the few people who have, Explorer Neil Oliver, unreservedly describes it as ‘the most special place I’ve ever seen’.
