Places to see in ( Marlborough - UK )
Marlborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath. Marlborough boasts the second widest high street in Britain, after Stockton-on-Tees.
The town of Marlborough is at the heart of the Church of England Marlborough deanery in the diocese of Salisbury in the province of Canterbury. The rural dean has responsibility for the benefices of Marlborough, Ridgeway, Upper Kennet and Whitton which in total comprise 16 parishes. Of the town's two Church of England parish churches, St Peter's has been made redundant and converted into an arts centre. St Mary's remains in use for worship.
Although once served by two railway lines (the Great Western Railway and the Midland and South Western Junction Railway) the town no longer has any direct rail access. The nearest stations are Pewsey (6.7 m.), Bedwyn (6.9 m.), and Swindon (12.7 m.). Marlborough is well connected by road with the A4 from Hungerford to Calne, A346 from Tidworth to Swindon and A345 from Salisbury meeting there.
Every summer the town of Marlborough holds a jazz festival with local pubs, clubs, hotels and various other venues playing host to live jazz music over the course of a weekend. The Marlborough mop fair was originally a hiring fair for agricultural workers seeking employment, but now has become a travelling funfair.

Manor Farmhouse is an attractive Grade 2 listed period village farmhouse, situated in the small village of Collingbourne Kingston, about 9 miles south of Marlborough on the A338 Salisbury Road.
We currently offer 3 comfortable and spacious rooms. Our double/family room (en-suite) and our twin/family room (private facilities) are both large south-facing Georgian rooms with new bathrooms, including full-size enamel baths and over bath power-showers. Our characterful 17thC double room has a new en suite bathroom and overlooks the walled gardens to the paddock and downland beyond.
Our working arable farm has been in the family ownership since 1885, and we are the 5th generation to live in the farmhouse. Manor Farm lies on the northern edge of Salisbury Plain, and forms part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 500-acre farm and its ancient chalk down land occupy some of the highest land in the area, and consequently the views over the surrounding countryside are spectacular. There is superb walking and cycling from the farm with many public rights of way in the locality. We are approximately 2 miles from the Wiltshire Cycleway.
The local area is rural and agricultural, with many picturesque villages and thatched cottages, and we are well situated for exploring Wiltshire’s ancient places, from Stonehenge (20 minutes) to Avebury Stone Circle, Silbury Hill and the Ridgeway (25 minutes).
As well as traditional farmhouse cooking, we also offer sumptuous breakfasts for guests who prefer vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and other special diets. We are fortunate in having several excellent local places to dine in the evening, including 'the Barley Corn' country pub, two minutes walk away.
We are a non-smoking establishment, and have ample parking.
A very warm welcome and a comfortable and friendly atmosphere await you at Manor Farm.

Travel Blog: UK Places - Marlborough, Wiltshire
Another episode of my travel blog featuring places in the UK. This episode I visit Marlborough in Wiltshire, a market town with the second widest high street in the UK. Marlborough is a town full of history, and worthy of a tour. It's on the A4 Bristol to London, and was a main thoroughfare for trade and travellers. It played a part in the English Civil War and was besieged by Royalist forces who subdued the Parliamentarian enemy. Nearby are Silbury Hill and Avebury, neolithic structures with their own history.
Wiltshire Ridgeway Walk App Demo
The Ridgeway project includes a free app for iPhone/iPad and other smart phones, in the field, GPS triggers sound, picture and text at key locations. There is a non GPS backup, the 'armchair' version. This video is a field demo using an iPad of the app at a selection of sites in the walk. More information and download at Some of the sounds and screen shots were re-recorded from the 'armchair' version for quality.

A Whiz Around Marlborough High Street
Marq English and I are heading to Avebury, but on the way we stop at Marlborough, a fabulous medieval market town in Wiltshire. It has the second widest high street in the UK and a line of ancient buildings behind the shop fronts.
Curiously there are two churches set either of the high street. The narrow alleyways between the properties reveals the true age of the town on this important route to Bath. Sadly we don't have too much time to wonder about for our next port of calls, but I hop you enjoy the video.

Wainwrights Coast to Coast walk PART ONE by Wiltshire Man
I backpacked and camped all 192 miles of the unofficial Wainwright coast to coast path.
The path starts on the Irish sea at St Bee's and ends 192 miles away at Robin hoods bay. It links 3 national parks and takes in some of the most scenic and rugged landscape this island has to offer.
The walk is graded as Hard and a good level of fitness is required and proper clothing too.
I walked the route in July and was very fortunate with the weather only experiencing on bout or rain and very heavy rain too.

Castle and Ball - Marlborough, Wiltshire, United Kingdom - Amazing place!
Castle and Ball - Book it now! -
One of our top picks in Marlborough. In a 16th-century inn, Castle and Ball is rich in character, and features a traditional restaurant and ale bar. The inn is situated on Britain’s widest high street, in the heart of Marlborough.
The Castle and Ball bar has original oak timbers and period features, and offers local ales and specialty coffees. The restaurant serves a modern British menu, using seasonal produce.
The beautiful inn has a walled beer garden with outdoor seating. There is free on-site parking available, and the Castle and Ball also offers room service and free Wi-Fi access.
The elegant rooms at Castle and Ball are traditionally decorated, and some feature ornate four-poster beds. All rooms have a private bathroom, tea/coffee facilities and a TV.
Marlborough is in the heart of scenic Wiltshire, just a 20-minute drive from Swindon. The mysterious ancient sites at Avebury and Silbury Hill are just a 10-minute drive away.

You Need To See These Places In Wiltshire
You Need To See These Places In Wiltshire// Wiltshire is one pretty county I'm telling you! Here are some places that are well worth a visit and I'm showing you only a tiny fraction.
If you're a fan of Poldark (who isn't?), you need to visit Great Chalfield Manor which is a National Trust property. And when it comes to quintessential English villages/towns, you will instantly fall in love with Bradford on Avon and Castle Combe. Did you know that Castle Combe has the most romantic hotel too? If you want to book a very special stay, I think The Manor House is perfect. Makes you think of the film The Holiday. I can already picture Amanda and Graham.
Hope you like the video.x
