World's largest reclining Buddha, Win Sein Taw Ya, Myanmar
19 April 2016 - About 24-km south of Mawlamyine, near Mudon, is this 180-metre long reclining Buddha, the largest of its kind in the world. Interestingly, one can go inside the monument where depictions of the Buddha's life and teachings are shown. This is part of a larger complex with more statues, temples, pagodas, and shrines.

Reclining Buddha - Win Sein Taw Ya
The largest reclining Buddha image in the world, Win Sein Taw Ya, is situated about 20 km south of Mawlamyine on the main road to Mudon. It can be clearly seen for miles as you leave Mudon for Mawlamyine on the right side of the road in amongst the hills almost directly opposite the hill top Buddhist shrine of Kyauktalon Taung. The reclining Buddha is 180 meters in length, and 30 meters in height. Inside there are numerous rooms with dioramas of the teachings of Buddhism, similar to Haw Par Villa (Tiger Balm Gardens) of Singapore. There is also a Buddhist shrine in one of the rooms, and being a place of worhship, you should remove your shoes or slippers before entering the premises. Construction is expected to be completed in 2008, however, the site is currently open to the public and attracts many visitors throughout the day. Be aware however, that it is still a construction site so your decision to enter the reclining Buddha is done at your own risk.
I liked the big statue of the monk, after the gathering, the monks through lucky money to the people...

If you thought you’d seen some big old buddhas, just wait till you get a load of this one. Draped across a couple of green hillsides at Yadana Taung, around 15 miles southwest of Mawlamyine, and surrounded by a forest of other pagodas and shrines, is this 560ft-long reclining buddha. It’s easily one of the largest such images in the world.

Unweit der weltgrössten Buddha Statue liegt diese Bauruine. Die Arbeiten wurden erst vor gut zwei Jahren eingestellt nachdem der Mönch, der den Bau in Auftrag gegeben hatte, überraschend verstorben ist.
The unfinished reclining Buddha is located not far from the biggest Buddha statue of the world. The work was stopped only two years ago after the monk who had commissioned the building died unexpectedly.

A Tour Of Win Sein Taw Ya, Myanmar
This is what Win Sein Taw Ya (aka Buddha Park) looks like. It has a 90-year-old unfinished reclining Buddha that is nearly 600 feet long (the largest in the world).
The statue was enormous and inside the enormous cement body was dioramas of the teachings of Buddha with captions in Burmese. It was amazing to explore the area, except when we noticed the young children were laboring on the unfinished feet. It certainly took most of the enjoyment from the experience seeing young teens working under these conditions.

HPA AN & MAWLAMYINE, MYANMAR, INCREDIBLE BEAUTY
Hpa An & Mawlamyine are two of the most incredible destinations in all of Myanmar, but many travellers overlook these in their rush to reach Yangon, Bagan & Inle Lake.
Hpa An, being a dramatic karst region with limestone mountains, is all about caves and cave temples; many possess enormous caverns and extend for kilometres in length. The famous Kyauk Kalat is also found near Hpa An. Kyauk Kalat is a spectacle to behold; a stupa perches atop a wine-glass shaped pinnacle of limestone rock, the rock itself situated in the centre of a man-made reservoir. It's also possible to climb Mount Zwegabin (725m), an imposing mountain lying a few kilometres from Hpa -An and you can sleep in the monastery atop the mountain if you decide to tackle this. Lumbini Park, at the foot of Mt.Zwegabin is an incredible place, rows of literally thousands of buddha statues on pedestals dominate this giant grassy field and they even extend into the forested areas along the margins.
Locations in the video from Hpa An include: Kyauk Kalat Monastery, Lumbini Park, Saddar Cave and Kaw Ka Taung Swimming Pool.
Mawlamyine is a lazy town located at the mouth of the Thanlwyin River. It's the main trading centre and seaport in south eastern Burma. Rudyard Kipling visited Mawlamyine for three days where he fell in love with a Burmese girl at the foot of one of the pagodas. The sunsets over the Thanlywin river are claimed by local people to be the best sunsets in all of Southeast Asia.
Mawlamyine boasts a string of beautiful pagodas, which sit along an inland ridge. From up here on the ridge, the sunset views of Mawlamyine & the Thanlwyin River are spectacular. The Kyaik Than Lan Pagoda pagoda up on the ridge is dazzlingly beautiful and the most impressive of the lot.
There are a few interesting old crumbling colonial buildings to check out in Mawlamyine and you can also make trips out to a number of river islands such as the enormous Bilu Kyun (Ogre Island) or the diminutive 'Shampoo Island'. These islands have interesting local handicrafts like woodcarvings, coconut mats, bamboo hats etc.
Locations in the video from Mawlamyine include: Mawlamyine town, Bilu Kyun (Ogre Island), Kyaik Than Lan Pagoda (our favourite) and U Khanti Paya.
There are also some interesting sights around Mawlamyine.About 24km south of Mawlamyine, near the town of Mudon, there is a cluster of 3 interesting attractions. There are two large limestone rocks by the roadside, one is called Kyauktalon Taung and is topped by stupas and other slightly smaller rock on the opposite side of the road is topped by a hindu temple. Very close to here in Yadana Taung, where you'll find Win Sein Taw Ya, possibly the world's largest reclining buddha statue. This concrete monstrosity is 30m high and 180m in length and it will probably blow your mind.

Biggest Reclining Buddha in The World.
The largest reclining Buddha image in the world, Win Sein Taw Ya, is situated about 20 km south of Mawlamyine on the main road to Mudon.
This huge lying Buddha, which is known to be one of the biggest lying buddhas in the world is located about 20 kilometres in the south of Mawlamyine. To get there you can either take a Tuktuk or just rent your own motorbike to be a little more independent & beside the way to get there the entrance is free!
You can actually go inside and visit different rooms, from which not all are finished yet, as some parts are still under construction. What you will find inside are many statues in a human size, which are painted and reproduce the different story in Buddhism – from which some seem to be really cruel! This was definitely one of the most impressive things I have seen so far and it is a must seen if you are around the area!
