Visiting The Umpqua Fish Ladder on the Winchester Dam in Oregon
In this video, we visit the Umpqua Fish ladder on the Winchester Dam in Oregon. Historically, salmon have had a harder time returning to spawning grounds when some reservoirs were placed in rivers. On the Umpqua river, at the Winchester Dam, some donors got together and created this fish ladder so that the salmon working their way upstream could more easily get around the reservoir. In the fish ladder, the donors placed windows under the water so visitors can actually see the salmon swimming in and up the river. Come along as we visit the Umpqua Fish Ladder and see the salmon working their way upstream Creators have done a great job making the fish ladder blend in with the natural surroundings.
It can be difficult to get a true perspective on the size of the salmon as they swim past the fish ladder windows without knowing the size of the windows; however, the youth standing beside and in front of some of the windows can help with some of this sizing perspective. Generally, the salmon appeared to be at least 3ft in length.
Umpqua River on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Winchester Dam built in 1890.
Tried to see the fish but not today... the river had been flooded and the area down the steps had been under water. There was somebody out on the rock just enjoying the sunshine. This is a very beautiful area!! This is very Pre-California and Pre-Oregon commercialism at it's most pristine! I felt like I'd gone back in time to a more spread-out wholesome mentality, and I drove by thousands of healthy sheep on the grassy plains, and hundreds of cattle walking with their calves. So much better than seeing poor cows wallowing about in the mud stalls like pigs, ugh, so sad to see that!! I am so tired of seeing animals abused ~ this was really nice on the Sabbath especially ~ to see animals living as God would have them roam about.

Dear Ellen: Mt. Emily Trails Unit Rally Call!
The friends of the Mt. Emily Trails unit in La Grande, Oregon got jazzed and decided to travel across the state and solicit help from the city. The Goal: raise $500,000 by the end of May to purchase the trees from Forest Capital and prevent Eastern Oregon's best recreational area from getting heavily cut. The goal is to get Ellen to check it out - and offer some help, support, money, press, etc. Pass it around.

South Fork Umpqua River Steelhead Fishing
During the winter and early spring the South Fork of the Umpqua River in Central Oregon can be an excellent place to catch winter steelhead. Team Pautzke hopped aboard with fishing guide Steven Theel of S.O. Chrome Guide Service for a quick drift through the Canyonville area and Stanton Park. While completing the two-hour drift we casted Natural BorX O Fire cured steelhead eggs at steelhead.
