[SPAIN] Mallorca is smashed by huge waves and another town is filled with FOAM as storm
Mallorca is smashed by huge waves and another town is filled with FOAM as storm lashes Spain, leaving at least four dead and 200,000 people without electricity
On Tuesday waves crashed over sea walls in Mallorca and flooded the streets
Meanwhile in Costa Brava locals woke to the streets filled with waist-deep foam
Storm Gloria is expected to bring further heavy rains and flooding today
British Foreign Office has warned tourists that the storm poses an 'extreme risk'
Mallorca has been smashed by huge waves and another town filled with foam as a storm continues to lash Spain, leaving four dead and 200,000 without power.
Videos yesterday showed waves crashing over the seafront walls and sending water cascading down the street towards buildings in Cala Ratjada on Mallorca.
While in the Costa Brava holiday resort of Tossa de Mar, locals woke up to the surreal sight of sea foam which had invaded part of the old town. One woman was filmed trying to get into her house in the resort up to her waist in the foam.
Storm Gloria is expected to bring heavy rains to Catalonia today, increasing the risk rivers in areas like Girona could overflow. The Interior Minister has described the storm as 'exceptional.'

Storm Gloria has killed at least four people, one a 63-year-old man killed by a roof tile near Avila. Waves have battered the coast in Valencia, Javea, Mallorca and Menorca. Meanwhile heavy rains have caused flooding in Girona and left thousands without power
Nine provinces are still on orange or yellow alert because of high winds and waves, snow and the risk from ice and avalanches.
The Foreign Office has issued an 'extreme risk' warning to British tourists after the storm claimed four lives.
They include a 43-year-old engineer killed on Sunday in front of his wife and two children by an out-of-control van as he tried to put snow chains on his tyres near a ski resort in the northern province of Leon.
Overnight it emerged search and rescue teams are looking for two people missing in the Costa Brava town of Palamos and a small town near Barcelona called Begues.

The man missing in Palamos is understood to have fallen into the water as he tried to berth a boat.
The man who vanished in Begues disappeared after failing to return from a walk. He is believed to be aged around 80.
Three other people reported missing on Tuesday included a 27-year-old abseiler who became separated from friends in Majorca and a Spanish pensioner whose car was carried away in a flood area as he drove from Benidorm to nearby Callosa d'En Sarria.
A man takes a picture of flooded fields in Malgrat de Mar, near Girona on Wednesday. The Interior Minister has described the weather as 'exceptional'
Two have yet to be found. The OAP's vehicle was empty when it was located and searched by firefighters and the search for the abseiler was suspended late yesterday because of bad weather.
Fears another man who went missing in the eastern province of Castellon could become a Storm Gloria victim, were dispelled overnight after it emerged he had been found safe and well in a rural shelter.
He is understood to have vanished after going to check on his cows.

ISLAND HOPPING BY EMILIA PLAK
Read more:
Constantly looking for adventure and challenge, Ozone team pilot Emilia Plak had an idea to make an over sea flight crossing from Menorca to Mallorca Island, Spain. In late September on a Saturday morning, she took off from Ciutadella in Menorca and 1,5 hours and 68 km later landed in port Alcudia of Mellorca. She flew with a Slalom 19 and was accompanied by another pilot flying the new Roadster 2 26.
Emilia reports:
“Baleares islands are a one night ferry ride away form my house. We didn’t think much about the plan. As soon as the weather looked more or less OK we took a ferry to Menorca. We had no boat following us but we were equipped with all possible safety equipment: GPS, iPhone, Agama water rescue system, life jackets, wet suit, knife, smoke system, torch and … an airbed from a Chinese shop.
…..
For me this adventure was amazing but I don’t want you to think that I encourage pilots to fly over water. Flying over water with a paramotor is dangerous. If you do so, it is very important to be aware of all the risks involved and to take all possible safety equipment, wear life jacket, buy an Agama system, and to inform and ask your friends to be ready for a boat rescue mission.”
Paramotors: PAP PA125
Wings: Roadster 2 26, Slalom 19
Time of the flight: 1,5 h
Fuel used: 5 liters each
Distance flown: 68 km/h
Average speed: 45km/h

STORM INBOUND on Mallorca! SHOULD WE HIDE from la Gota Fría? - sailing couple

Aaaand we are back in Mallorca, Balearic Islands! We know it is confusing that we keep switching between story lines (Greece and the Balearics), but this week a subtropical storm (or subtropical hurricane, subtropical cyclone), a “Mediterranean Hurricane” or so called Medicane, was expected to cause disaster and catastrophe over Spain and its islands. We had heard of this phenomenon earlier this year, when friends told us that the Medicane “Zorbas” caused some serious damage in Greece last year and sank several boats. When we heard a Medicane was expected to strike Mallorca, we did some research. After all, expecting a storm force 12 Medicane is something to be cautious about. We are no weather experts (yet ;)), but we would like to explain what we learned and what we decided to do with a storm inbound in Mallorca. Should we be hiding? Or will it turn out to be not as bad as expected..
We head off to Port Andratx to wait it out. One of the most beautiful ports we have been so far! With the mountains all around this massive natural bay and an epic view of the sunset every night, we are not too sad about riding out the storm here for a week.

*Who are we?*
We are a European couple from Germany (Alex) and the Netherlands (Mandy), sailing around the Med on our 36ft sailboat. Six months ago we started our journey in Greece with little sailing experience, figuring things out as we go, not really knowing what we're doing. Our goal is to circumnavigate the world via the wind, always being surrounded by the ocean. Sailboat life is super different from land life and can be pretty rough at times. see the little things is the documentary of our endeavour of simplifying life, decelerating pace, and practicing mindfulness. Follow our adventures when you are curious to see how we mess up and fix it up again! We are currently still sailing Greece, but will head over to Italy and beyond soon.

Ben Garland, 25, from Bradford-on-Avon, has been missing since yesterday when he went on a motorcycle ride around the island. Fears that he has been swept into the sea were growing today after the motorcycle was found abandoned but there was still no sign of Ben. He is believed to be one of the crew of a boat which had earlier docked in the port of Ibiza. The alert was raised by the boat's captain who called cops when Ben did not return as promised. Worried friends of Ben have appealed on social media for anyone who may have seen him. A land and sea search is being carried out by the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, local Police, and Civil Guard. Storm Gloria has battered the northern part of Ibiza, sparking massive swells that cut off all maritime links to the island. On Monday, a young man disappeared while canyoning in the torrent of Na Mora, in an area of the Serra de Tramuntana on Majorca. The shocking weather front has left at least four dead in Spain after unleashing winds, snow storms, freezing temperatures and mountainous seas along the Mediterranean coast. Hundreds of thousands of people in the north of the country and now without power in the wake of the winter storm which coated roads near Benidorm in snow. The north-east and the Balearic Islands are now on high alert as forecasters predict even more gales, heavy rain and icy conditions. A wave nearly 50ft high and described as record-high was recorded off the holiday island of Menorca at 1pm local time on Tuesday. While the port authorities estimated towering waves of nearly 28ft hit Valencia - which they revealed was also a record. Nine provinces are still on orange or yellow alert because of huge waves and even avalanches. Gloria has been battering Spain since Sunday. Parts of the country had already been hit by blizzards and ice. Four people were confirmed dead before the waves struck yesterday and doubled the death toll. They included a 43-year-old engineer who was killed on Sunday in front of his wife and two kids. He was hit by an out-of-control van as he tried to put snow chains on his tyres near a ski resort in the northern province of Leon. A 54-year-old homeless Romanian woman died overnight in the Costa Blanca resort of Gandia on Sunday from hypothermia. A man, 63, died after being hit by tiles from a roof in the village of Pedro Bernardo near the cathedral city of Avila. And a 71-year-old man died from hypothermia in Moixent in the province of Valencia. Gloria struck after flash floods in October killed eight people, including two cousins swept away by a wave in Cala d
