Cross Country Skiing in Winding Trails in Farmington Connecticut USA
Well, I know what you are thinking, but come on, we did not have decent snow in years, so my technique got a little rusty. Still, I was better than all the skiers I met that day. Probably, good ones have called it a day by that point :)

Winding Trails Pond Hockey
This is Christopher's third ice hockey game (ever) and he has come a long way in just two weekends of playing. It's my first season of pond skating in over 30 years!
Winding Trails recreation area in Farmington CT offers one of the few places in the state where skaters young and old can lace up and play pond hockey (most other town's in the area are too skittish to allow pond skating).
Walton pond is offering some of the best skating in years. The ice is resurfaced every other day and the weather has been almost perfect. We will continue to skate as long as conditions allow.

Bike ride on The Farmington River Trail Unionville to Farmington CT
Bike ride on the Farmington River Trail and Farmington Canal Trail starting at Rt 177 in Unionville to the parking area at Brickyard Rd in Farmington. If you're thinking about visiting this section of the Rails to Trails in Farmington Connecticut, this will give you an idea of what it is like. This ride has very slight up grade while traveling to Red Oak Hill Rd out of Unionville, then a slight down grade to the Farmington River and slight up grade after that to the parking area at Brickyard Rd.
I also have a video of the Farmington River Trail heading west out of Unionville also starting from the Rt 177 trail crossing to the center of Collinsville here: if you would like to see what that portion of the trail is like.
These trails do get busy on the weekends and evenings when the weather is nice. Enjoy

Nelsaping in CT
Connecticut, although a small state, did have quite a few ski areas at one point in time. Many of these areas were quite small with a few rope tows---NELSAP.org

Participants will take part in an organized bicycle ride, broken up into groups to allow riders at all levels of skill and experience to enjoy themselves.
I'm not in great shape and I hadn't ridden a bike since high school, said Dan Johnson, a participant in a recent Bikes & Beers event. But I ended up having a blast on the ride; and the beer tasted all the better after working off some calories.
Once the ride is completed, the cyclists will gain exclusive access to Eli Cannon's, which will be closed to the general public on the night of the event.
We're normally closed on Mondays, said Carrie Carella, head manager at Eli Cannon's. But we wanted to do something special and decided to open our doors and provide something that will set this night apart from previous Bikes & Beers rides. This is going to be a truly unique event!
The staff at Eli Cannon's will be pulling out all the stops for this ride's after party by providing their always extensive offering of craft beer, along with a selection of complimentary food and a limited menu for those that want something more. Connecticut's own New England Brewing Company will augment Eli Cannon's extensive tap list with some of the finest locally crafted beer available in the state. The night will be topped off with live music from The Clams a local instrumental band that specializes in 1960s surf rock.
This event will have a little something for everyone. So whether you're an avid bike rider, who loves live music, or you're a craft beer fan who needs to borrow a bike from a friend, you don't want to miss this exclusive event, be sure to RSVP on the CT Beer Trail website.
Riders will meet at the Pedal Power bicycle shop in Middletown and will depart between 5:00 and 5:30 p.m. depending on their experience level. Once the ride is finished, participants are welcome to park their bicycles in the Pedal Power shop and head over to Eli Cannon's for the after party.
Complete details on the ride can be found online:
Pedal Power and the CT Beer Trail have two additional rides planned for the remainder of the year, including a ride scheduled with Plan B in Simsbury and a Halloween costume themed ride with the folks at Willimantic Brewing Co. More details on upcoming rides can be found at ctbeertrail.net.
