Devon & Somerset Gliding Club - DSGC - Open Weekend 2010
DEVON & Somerset Gliding Club's annual open day was a soaring success and over sixty people took to the skies.
The club invited people to join them at their base on North Hill Airfield near Broadhembury on the last weekend of May for a chance to see the gliders in action. For £25 visitors had the chance to be taken up into the sky for a 20 minute flight.
Despite rain and poor visibility on the Saturday when none of the club's six gliders could take off, on Sunday three of the fleet -- two K21 and one K13 type gliders -- were in action, as well as a 400 horsepower engine winch at the other end of the grass runway used to get the aircraft off the ground via rope.
One of the aims of the weekend was to encourage more people to take part in the sport. Currently the club have over 100 members, and it's hoped that through open days this can grow
