Places to see in ( Windsor - UK )
Windsor is a town on the River Thames in southeast England, just west of London. It’s home to Windsor Castle, a residence of the British Royal Family. Built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century, the castle was extensively remodelled by subsequent monarchs. Public tours take in the State Apartments, which contain opulent furnishings, and paintings from the royal art collection.
Windsor is a historic market town and unparished area in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. Windsor is widely known as the site of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family.
Windsor is situated 23 miles (37 km) west of Charing Cross, London, 7 miles (11 km) south east of Maidenhead, and 21 miles (34 km) east of the county town of Reading. It is immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with its ancient twin town of Eton. The village of Old Windsor, just over 2 miles (3 km) to the south, predates what is now called Windsor by around 300 years; in the past Windsor was formally referred to as New Windsor to distinguish the two.
As a result of the castle, Windsor is a popular tourist destination and has facilities usually found in larger towns: two railway stations, a theatre and several substantial hotels. Various boat trips operate on the River Thames, with connections to Maidenhead and Staines-upon-Thames. In winter, Alexandra Gardens hosts a temporary ice rink. Near the town is Legoland Windsor, the only Legoland park in the United Kingdom and the largest Legoland park in the world in terms of area. Legoland Windsor was built on the site of the former Windsor Safari Park.
Windsor is accessible from Junction 6 of the M4 and from Slough via a 3 mile long dual carriageway. Windsor has two railway stations. Windsor & Eton Central railway station has a shuttle service to Slough. Windsor & Eton Riverside station provides a service to London Waterloo. Windsor is linked to the town of Eton (on the opposite bank of the River Thames) by Windsor Bridge.

Royal Borough of Greenwich
A short news item from the day Greenwich became a Royal Borough on 3rd February 2012.
The Queen has made Greenwich in south-east London a royal borough to mark her Diamond Jubilee. It is the first borough to be granted royal status in more than 80 years and is one of only four in the country. The honour has been conferred to recognise the close links between Greenwich and royalty since the Middle Ages.
Royal Windsor RHS Coronation Arch
A STROLL ALONG THE LONG WALK IN WINDSOR TOWARDS THE NEW CORONATION ARCH
An archway decorated with 4,000 roses has been installed near Windsor Castle.
The floral arch is part of a six-piece 9m (30ft) willow walkway planted on the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park to mark 60 years since the Queen's Coronation.
The display, which also features six crowns at Cambridge Gate, is expected to remain in place until early October.
The idea for the project came from the chairman of the Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society who wrote to the Queen, its patron, to seek permission.
The six arches and crowns containing wildflowers, one for each decade, were woven on a local farm before being assembled in front of the royal residence.
Once the display is dismantled, the society plans to sell the arches and crowns. Proceeds will go into its legacy fund, a bursary to sponsor young gardeners through horticultural college every year for the next 60 years.
The project is a collaboration between the Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society, the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Windsor Castle, Borough Market, Spitalfields Market, Christmas and Thanksgiving
Hi Friends!
In installment 2 of our London Adventure we go see our Friends Tim and James to explore Windsor Castle. Then we go to Saint Martin in the Fields Church to see a Bach concerto concert that was amazing, but unfilmable :-(. We spent the better pat of Wednesday at Borough Market, so prepare for hunger, and we went over to Covent Garden to look at some tea and a little shop we love that has beautiful Christmas decor. Thursday we went to Spitalfields Market with Constance and then managed to grab a Turkey dinner at a pub for a delicious and laid back Thanksgiving!
I hope that you all enjoy!

It's a huge honour to be hosting the wedding, we're a very, very small town but we're used to these kind of events, we see the royal family a lot. The castle is obviously on our doorstep. But it's wonderful the Prince has chosen Windsor to be the venue of his wedding.

STORYLINE:
At last the prince weds his true love, in a royal marriage delayed for years by complications and put off for one more day by a pope's funeral.
Prince Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, is not attending the civil ceremony, the public still bridles at accepting Camilla Parker Bowles as a future queen, and many pine for the late Princess Di.
But as the weekend wedding of the fifty-something divorcees approached, the town of Windsor was being buffed to a royal lustre, and the faithful scouted sidewalk vantage points.
Saturday's wedding has brought a buzz to Windsor, a handsome riverside town 20 miles (30 kilometres) west of London that has been home to British monarchs for a millennium.
Hotels are fully booked, and souvenir shops are doing a brisk trade in royal wedding mugs, tea towels and even jigsaw puzzles - although most are emblazoned with the wrong date, April 8.
Julia White, marketing manager for the Royal Borough of Windsor, says, it's a huge honour to be hosting the wedding, we're a very, very small town but we're used to these kind of events, we see the royal family a lot. The castle is obviously on our doorstep. But it's wonderful the Prince has chosen Windsor to be the venue of his wedding.
The wedding was postponed by a day so it would not conflict with the funeral of Pope John Paul II.
Some 800 guests - including comedian Joan Rivers and Prunella Scales (TV's Sybil Fawlty) - will attend a blessing service at Windsor Castle, where they will be invited to join the couple in confessing manifold sins and wickedness, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer.
Following a bit more than five hours of ceremony and a reception, the newlyweds intend to head for the hospitable quiet of Birkhall, Charles' retreat near Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
Charles' fiancee will enter the 17th-century town hall as Camilla Parker Bowles.
She will leave half an hour later, technically the Princess of Wales - a title she wishes to avoid in deference to memories of Diana. She will be known instead as Duchess of Cornwall.
