The Hunter Valley, north of Sydney in New South Wales, is one of Australia's major wine regions, with a viticultural history dating back to the early 1800s. Known for varietals such as Semillon and Shiraz, it’s home to numerous wineries, including world-renowned brands and family-run boutique operations. Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney. Short Commentary and Review
Support Prize Wines! Check out our ebook: Hunter Valley Wine Tasting Tour from Sydney visiting Savannah Estate, Tempus Two, Blueberry Hill, Hermitage Cellars and James Estate. Commentary and on the spot reports from the wine country and gourmet food area. Also video of some of the scenery of the wine region through the window of the bus. Great short video to give you an idea as to what a wine tasting trip to the Hunter Valley is like. Hope you find it useful.
I met some awesome people on the bus from Australia, USA, UK and China and had a great time and bought some great bottles of wine including Riesling, Shiraz, Sangiovese, Botrytis Semillon, Chardonnay and Vitai. Not to mention all the glasses of Moscato, Sauvignon Blanc, non vintage blancs, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Port, Muscat and other glass or two of sparkling wine I got to try. Just about every winery had a wine club to join with wine plans available too. Lots of things to see and do. It was a great way to celebrate my birthday!
Welcome to Prize Wines. A sporadic video blog about the wines I'm drinking now.
Please bear with me as I approach this from a casual wine drinker background. I'm not a wine grower. I'm a social wine drinker. So my description or off the cuff comments may not cover all the nuances of the wine. If you'd like to add more to my description of a particular wine, especially if you're the wine grower, distributor or retailer please feel free to comment below.
To keep updated on when further videos are uploaded, please subscribe by clicking the subscribe button at the top of the page.
This review may not reflect the reviews of other wine drinkers and wine organisations I may be associated with and are mine alone.
--
Thank you for watching my wine reviews.
I've received many fantastic and appreciated comments from people all around that have found the videos useful and I have seen a dramatic increase in the amount of people watching them (thank you, thank you very much), so in 2015 I will return with more wine review videos.
If you are a wine producer and would like me to review your wine for free, please click on 'about' on my channel and send me a message. I'll email you the address to post the wine to as soon as possible. If you find the video useful you are welcome to use it on your website. Videos are recorded with a Samsung Galaxy Note II mobile and are completely unscripted.
I cannot guarantee that I will be able to review every bottle of wine I receive but I will endeavour to do so. If your wine tastes great, it'll definitely get a review. If it doesn't, I would not wish to upload the video in case I was just unlucky enough to get a bad bottle, or there was some bottle shock in delivery, or it had been affected by the heat.
I'm not a sommelier so, in that sense, you can receive down-to-earth reviews from the point of view of a real customer who just loves wine.
If you're an enjoyer of fine wines like me and you like these videos and would like to contribute in some way, feel free to leave a comment below on what your favourite wine is like. If you're interested in supporting the creation of future videos, please consider buying our ebook: Secret Sydney Bars Walking Tour Guide 2014: A Guide to Finding Over 37 Interesting, Unique and Hidden Bars in Sydney City, from The Rocks to City Centre. It's available on Amazon for Kindle. You can find out more about it here: (We make about 25c from every sale so every little bit helps!)

I also now have a Face Book page on wine. Early days yet but if you could 'like' it, that would be very much appreciated.

Hunter Valley Wine Region – Australia August 2019 – Travel Vlog
This is day 2 of our Australia trip! We rented a car when we arrived on day 1 to venture out of Sydney as we waited for the rest of our friends to arrive a day later.
On this day, we visited the Hunter Valley Wine Region which is known for Semillon and Shiraz wines. This is an area that came as a surprise to me, not just because I’ve only heard of it recently, but Australia is somewhat absent from the international wine scene, especially when there is the Napa and Sonoma Valley Wine Regions, Burgundy and Bordeaux, and many others that easily overshadows this part of the wine making world. And, I’ve even read that most Australians have not even heard of the Hunter Valley Wine Region ????
The Hunter Valley vineyards are as grand as any other with inviting tasting salons. Asides from learning the type of wines produced here, but wineries consciously produce wine om small quantities which is the reason exports are minimal. Although, in TV shows such as the Wine Show (with Matthew Goode), Australia is being highlighted as a unique terroir. And in our exploration, I discovered that I love their wine ????

Discover Australian Wine Regions -The Hunter Valley
Discover what Australia has to offer the wine world in this Hunter Valley special episode of Spitbucket. The Hunter Valley is Australia's oldest wine growing region and covers a huge area from Maitland, near Newcastle, up to Murrurundi at the foot of the Great Dividing Range.
When an route from Sydney to the Hunter was forged in 1820, the sandy flats either side of the Hunter river were found to be ideal for the cultivation of wine. By 1823 around 20 acres of vineyards had been planted. By the latter part of the 19th century, names suchg as Tyrrell, Tulloch and Drayton were stamping their winemaking mark in the Hunter.
The Hunter Valley is one of the warmest, most humid and wettest climates in Australia. The soils of the region vary from red duplex, through to sandy loam soils - the ideal growing medium for the Hunter's famous Semillon.

Shot on location in Australia this series takes the viewer on a journey through the historic wine regions of Australia. Produced by Sydney based Panorama Films International, this series will give rare access to the exotic and colorful world of Australian wine. While Australian wines are available for purchase in many countries, little is known about the vineyards, process, culture and people who cultivate the grapes. This may very well be the only wine series available on Australia.
Grape varieties
Major grape varieties are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Riesling. The country has no native grapes, and Vitis vinifera varieties were introduced from Europe and South Africa in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Some varieties have been bred by Australian viticulturalists, for example Cienna and Tarrango.
Although Syrah was originally called Shiraz in Australia and Syrah elsewhere, its dramatic commercial success has led many Syrah producers around the world to label their wine Shiraz.
About 130 different grape varieties are used by commercial winemakers in Australia. Over recent years many winemakers have begun exploring so called alternative varieties other than those listed above. Many varieties from France, Italy and Spain for example Petit Verdot, Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Tempranillo and Viognier are becoming more common. Wines from many other varieties are being produced.
Australian winemaking results have been impressive and it has established benchmarks for a number of varietals, such as Chardonnay and Shiraz. Moreover, Australians have innovated in canopy management and other viticultural techniques and in wine-making, and they have a general attitude toward their work that sets them apart from producers in Europe. Australian wine-makers travel the wine world as highly skilled seasonal workers, relocating to the northern hemisphere during the off-season at home. They are an important resource in the globalisation of wine and wine critic Matt Kramer notes that the most powerful influence in wine today comes from Australia (Kramer).
GSM blends
GSM is a name commonly used in Australia for a red wine consisting of a blend of Grenache, Shiraz (a.k.a. Syrah), and Mourvèdre. This blend originated from those used in some Southern Rhone wines, including Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Grenache is the lightest of the three grapes, producing a pale red juice with soft berry scents and a bit of spiciness. As a blending component, it contributes alcohol, warmth and fruitiness without added tannins. Shiraz can contribute full-bodied, fleshy flavors of black fruits and pepper. It adds color, backbone and tannins and provides the sense of balance such blends require. Mourvèdre contributes elegance, structure and acidity to the blend, producing flavors of sweet plums, roasted game and hints of tobacco.

DAY TRIPS FROM SYDNEY AUSTRALIA | HUNTER VALLEY & CANBERRA
BLOOPERS INCLUDED IN THE END!
Hello people, I'm back with another episode of daily chaos of my life.
Canberra and Hunter valley are just a day trip from Sydney. In my final weekend in Australia, I decided to visit these two cities since the bush fire warnings have reduced and it's raining here in Aus.
On the first day I went to Canberra and visited Cockington Green gardens and the mueum. This would not take the whole day but you gotta have an early start.
Then next day it was for the wineries! Who can resist a little wine? We went to a smaller winery, This is specially good when you are a little tight on the budget but there are big wineries in the region that do tours and tasting and much more!
Don't forget to watch the blooper in the end!
Have you tried Airbnb? Sign up with my link and you will get up to $34 off your first trip.
