SpaceX's plan to fly you across the globe in 30 minutes | Gwynne Shotwell
What's up at SpaceX? Engineer Gwynne Shotwell was employee number seven at Elon Musk's pioneering aerospace company and is now its president. In conversation with TED curator Chris Anderson, she discusses SpaceX's race to put people into orbit and the organization's next big project, the BFR (ask her what it stands for). The new giant rocket is designed to take humanity to Mars -- but it has another potential use: space travel for earthlings.

Taste of Powys
Delivered by : Glasu
Target : Powys based food producers and micro businesses
The Taste of Powys project was conceived to provide integrated marketing support for Powys based food businesses, community groups and direct sales outlets such as farm shops and farmers markets and to provide help in linking them up with the tourism and hospitality sector as well as linking to each other in a mutually beneficial way. The project has also been instrumental in supporting micro food businesses by sharpening the skills they need to thrive in this highly competitive sector.

The aim of the project has been to raise awareness of the importance of modern and internet marketing initiatives and to promote the local food supply chain whilst helping to develop a more vibrant and more sustainable food economy for Powys. Support is targeted at entrepreneurship and stimulating the set-up or growth of micro-enterprises, including social economy enterprises, where less than 10 people are employed in the traditional rural backbone sectors of agriculture, forestry and tourism.
In order to offer this support, a focal point has been the construction of a website giving a free online presence to food businesses. is primarily promoted to tourism, hospitality and other food sectors so that they can all find and cross support each other. So if hotels, cafés or restaurants are looking to offer local fresh produce they have a one-stop port of call.
The website also publicises events, information, local training and networking opportunities, which makes it comprehensive and efficient for everyone involved.
So has also been an important tool for micro businesses, offering them an online presence and platform, and has also served to log the activities of the Taste of Powys project and the opportunities available.
Businesses have also benefited from practical marketing support in the form of editorial coverage in local newspapers and magazines, product launches, promotional leaflets for farmers markets and networking events.
One of the most important features of this project has been the development of Food Trails, where a number of businesses interact together, supplying products and by-products to each other which help to support each others' businesses.
1.Monty's Brewery in Montgomery is an example of a business which has thrived on the opportunities offered by the Project, and is involved in one of the Food Trails, in conjunction with other businesses. The owner and head brewer of Monty's Brewery, Pam Honeyman is one of only a handful of brewsters ,or female brewers in the UK. Monty's has been providing real ales since January 2009. As a part of its support, Glasu organised a reception featuring local producers. The local media came along, and Pam was featured on HTV News and also featured in a follow up article in Wye Valley and Border Life.
Quite clearly, a large number of businesses have received quantifiable support from the Taste of Powys project. The Meet the Producer events had a combined business footfall of approx 180, there are over 70 producers on the website, the food trails projects include over 20 food businesses and the Taste of Powys Facebook profile has over 400 friends. The project has proved popular (despite being unable to provide direct funding) engaging a number of food producers and helping them develop new markets.
The project has succeeded in getting unprecedented media coverage for food producers in Powys across the whole of Wales. This, along with a whole range of other measures has enabled the producers to increase new business opportunities. It has also succeeded in providing what most local, small businesses lack and desperately need to thrive -- raising awareness of product identity -- who they are and what they do.
