Cycling Italy : Attempting to Ride Up Monte Cetona (Training!)
We're training for the tour! Well, our tour that is. After relaxing at the villa and consuming copious amounts of pasta, gelato, and wine, we finally dusted off the bikes, pumped up the tires and set out for what we thought might be a relatively relaxed loop around the base of Monte (Mt...ie mountain...should have been a clue) Cetona. We knew there'd be some climbing but the route we took was a little more inclined than we imagined! Tiiiiime to get the legs going! I swear we'll get tougher once the bike trip really begins. So soft right now!

GEOGRAPHIC POSITION
From the main asphalted street, a tree-lined gravel alley leads to the property, surrounded by fields and enjoying great privacy. Placed on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, this charming villa is set in a wonderful hilly location, in a well-connected area, midway between the two hilltop towns of Monterchi, renowned for the famous Piero della Francesca’s fresco “Madonna del Parto”, and Citerna, medieval village overlooking the Tiber Valley. Thanks to its strategic location, the most important cities and towns of Central Italy are all within easy reach.
Arezzo, birthplace of Petrarch and Vasari, is only half an hour away, while, thanks to its vicinity to the dual carriageway E45, it is possible to get to Perugia and to the International Airport of Umbria in less than one hour’s drive.
DESCRIPTION OF BUILDINGS
The property consists of a main villa of 245 square meters and a guest house of 122 square meters, for a total surface area of 367 square meters.
Villa – 245 square meters
The ground floor hosts a lounge, a hallway, three sitting rooms and a dining room.
On the first floor there are a kitchen, a master bedroom with en suite bathroom, a hallway with wardrobe, a bedroom and a bathroom.
Guest house – 122 square meters
The ground floor comprises a lounge and an eat-in kitchen with access to the loggia. Still on this floor, with independent entrance, there is a cellar.
On the first floor there are a hallway and two bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom.
STATE AND FINISHING
Recently restored using high quality materials, this stone villa is the result of the conversion of a church into a private residence, in 1888.
Built in the 11th century in Romanesque style on the ruins of a Roman Villa, the church has been remodeled during the centuries, like the reduction of the three naves into a single spacious aisle in the 17th century.
The meticulous renovation has preserved some of the details of the original building, like round arches and motifs of the Early Middle Ages. Tastefully painted with pastel colors, the cozy rooms of the ground floor boast original frescos on the walls.
EXTERNAL AREAS
Surrounded by green lawns with hedges and flowers, the property is completed by 6,82 acres (2,76 hectares) of arable land.
USAGE AND POTENTIALS
Thanks to it vicinity to towns with amenities and facilities, it is the ideal solution for those who are looking for a private residence in the Tuscan countryside, in a reserved but not isolated location. At the same time, the guest house can be easily rented out on a weekly basis.

The ancient town of Gubbio in Italy - Travel vlog in Europe
I know the town of Gubbio since I was a baby, I visit it a countless amount of times, and I never get bored of it.
In January 2019, I go again at Gubbio to visit my family, and in the same time to show a bit of this wonderful town.
It's a stunning city and full of history, and and in every season there is something going on, but the main event of the town is the Festa Dei Ceri, it's every 15th of May. So because I was there in January, I can't show you much of that event, so here a link to another video made by someone else during that special procession.
Festa dei Ceri:
I hope you will like the video and that it will make you want to go there and see more of this beautiful city.

Montepulciano: Live from Tuscany's Wine Country
Montepulciano is the highest hill town in Tuscany, and renowned for its wine, the Vino Nobile. Henry James drank so much Montepulciano wine he couldn't remember much about this famous Tuscany hill town, but it's beautifully preserved and well worth a visit, especially to taste the food -- and don't miss the wine cellars!
Well here we are in the main street of, the main square, actually, of Montepulciano. I'll sweep round in a minute to give you a view. Not many people here at this time, about 5 o'clock, beautiful light, though. Unfortunately, as you'll see later, it's a bit misty and hazy over the countryside and views. Still, never mind. Let's have a look around at the square now.
Well, as you can see, not many people around. There's the well and here is the Duomo where there's a Triptych of the Assumption painted in 1401 by Taddeo di Bartolo inside, which I'll have a look at later. I'm actually standing in front of the Town Hall, so I'll close here and we'll have a look at that, which unfortunately is in the shadow now.
Past palaces and an extremely good restaurant
Okay, I'm back again and this is the front of the Duomo. Opposite is the Town Hall where I was standing a few minutes ago. Here's the Tower, I don't know if you can see that. It's a bit in the shadow, an awkward time of the day. Okay, let's zoom down and do a sweep from here. We're going to go down that street on the right hand side, which I'm told takes us back past palaces and an extremely good restaurant.
Now I'll show you here the road where you come up. As you can see, it's reasonably steep, just about five or ten minutes walk up from the car park. Quite peaceful now, at midday I'm told it's not, but we'll walk over here to the street that leads down the hill, about 25 minutes walk down, so I'm told, and then, of course, we have to come back up.
Plenty of wine bars and restaurants
Okay, here we go down the street, not much to see yet, but give it time. You can see a few palaces on either side but, from the outside anyway, they don't look so amazing.
Right, so that road's where we've just come from. To be honest, the light is not very good at this time. I'm at a sort of crossroads here, steeply going down in most directions -- this street's going up -- plenty of wine-bars and restaurants around, but not much else. It seems pretty deserted at the moment.
Okay, well, we've come up to the Piazza San Francisco by the church. Let's see what we can see over this wall. Yes, quite a little view this is. You can see, it's very hazy today. Montepulciano is 600 metres, I believe, high, so it's got a great view and they say you can see Perugia on a clear day from the top of the tower. You can climb up that tower at the Town Hall.
So there you have it, miles and miles of Tuscany. And here are some of the fabled Montepulciano vineyards. Henry James used to like Montepulciano wines and actually you can argue that he was responsible, in his writings, for popularising this place. Certainly he drank a lot of wine. Vin Nobile, they call it.

The Best of Tuscany Tour 2018 with Tuscany Tours
Tuscany Tours, Italy’s best small-group (limited to 16 participants), escorted, tour company presents The Best of Tuscany 2018.
9 glorious days exploring the best Tuscany has to offer – from Florence to Cortona and many places in between. Enjoy Tuscany’s rich history, art, culture, food, wine, and breathtaking scenery while having fun!
Three tours dates to choose from:
May 15 to May 23, 2018 – [Only 5 places left]
Sep 7 to Sep 15, 2018 – [Only 5 places left]
Nov 8 to Nov 16, 2018
We've designed this tour as a sampler that provides a taste of the many pleasures that Florence and Tuscany have to offer. You'll have a chance to go wine tasting in Chianti, visit medieval castles, see art treasures of the Renaissance, explore Tuscany's picturesque towns and villages, and enjoy the exquisite local cuisine.
We'll be staying at charming, historic 4-star hotels in Tuscany. We'll spend the first portion of our week in Florence at a gracious hotel situated in a 15th-century palazzo in the historic core of the city, only steps away from many of the world's greatest collections of artistic masterpieces.
For the next portion of our adventure in Tuscany, we'll be based in a tiny village in the Chianti region at an elegant boutique hotel that was an 18th-century noble residence. From here, we'll visit the fascinating medieval city of Siena with its world-famous Gothic cathedral. And we'll make several short excursions to explore wine, food, and art in the marvelous hill-towns and villages that make this one of the most beautiful areas of Tuscany.
Lastly, we transfer to the ancient Etruscan town of Cortona which has recently been made famous by the book and movie, Under the Tuscan Sun. We'll be staying in a luxurious palazzo in the old town at the top of the mountain with commanding views of the Valdichiana plains down below.
You will have the opportunity to experience both the excitement and stimulus of the cities of Florence and Siena and the beauty and tranquility of rural Tuscan life. The small size of our group (maximum 16 participants) allows us to move about without following a red umbrella and to eat in restaurants and trattorias that are popular with the locals. In addition to breakfast, we share one full-course meal every day as a group, either lunch or dinner. Be prepared for a week of feasting at some of the finest restaurants in Tuscany!
The Best of Tuscany Tour combines daily planned activities along with unstructured time that you may spend as you like. If you have special activities that you'd like to pursue during the unscheduled portions of our tour in Tuscany, we're happy to help you arrange it. And if you'd like to visit other special places in Italy either before or after the tour, we'll be glad to assist with bookings, transfers, guides and all the rest.
During the course of the tour, we offer presentations and slideshows to help you better appreciate the art and the places we visit. The rest of the time, we attend to all the details to make your travel adventure as smooth as possible. You get to relax and experience The Best of Tuscany!

How to Buy a Property in Italy.... WHERE do you want to buy?
To help you ponder that question for a moment, would you like to get an ongoing collection of news, reports, resources and courses on working and living in Italy?
It's so EASY to access!
Just take a quick moment to subscribe, and click the Bell icon so you’ll never miss out again.
Part 3. WHERE Do You Want to Buy Property in Italy?
Wherever you decide to buy property, you want to consider the following:
(1) Is property in the region you're interested in predominantly more expensive compared to other regions?
(2) What's life like in winter, and can you handle the cold, for example?
(3) Is there an “active” local or expat community nearby?
(4) Renting – to ensure you’re making the right decision regarding location and type of property, go and rent for a period of time, say, 3 to 6 months if you can.
The experience will also give you the opportunity to:
(A) meet locals and to get to know them;
(B) start learning the Italian language; and
(C) take the pressure off you to an extent by having more time to find your dream property.
Here's some regions of Italy to consider....
(1) Abruzzo - there's lots of national parks to explore.
(2) Campagnia - home of the Amalfi coast, boasting resorts such as Sorrento, Positano and the isle of Capri.
(3) Emilia Romagna - popular with Italian tourists on the Adriatic side of the country.
(4) Lazio - could be an ideal area for expats looking for warm winter weather.
(5) Le Marche - another region over-shadowed by the more popular Tuscany region, but could be another great choice for expats looking for the quiet rural life.
(6) Liguria - it boasts the star-studded frequented picturesque coastal resort of Portofino.
(7) Lombardy - a wine region of the famous lakes of Como, Garda and Maggiore, coupled with ski resorts.
(8) Piedmont - another famous wine region, bordering Lombardy with access to the lakes and ski resorts.
(9) Puglia - famous for the Trulli properties which are now attracting a lot of overseas property investors.
(10) Sardinia - property tends to be more expensive than in most areas on the mainland.
(11) Sicily - the weather can be very hot.
(12) Trentino - this area borders Austria and Slovenia, and has skiing in the winter, hiking and beaches for the summer months.
(13) Tuscany - probably the most well-known region of Italy.
(14) Umbria - a region boasting plenty of countryside, with opportunities to renovate old, rustic farmhouses.
(15) Venetto - home to Venice, the Dolomites, Lake Garda and historical towns such as Verona.
In the next stage in the Italian property buying process, which we'll cover in the next video, Part 4, entitled: What Type of Property to Buy in Italy? we'll cover some of the considerations to take into account to help you choose the type of property to buy that's best suited to your desires and lifestyle.
