Napoli Italian Market Wine Tasting June 23, 2016
Napoli Italian Market Wine Tasting June 23, 2016
POMPEII, HERCULANEUM WINE TOUR
Tour of Italy: Venice, Florence, Rome, & Naples
We took a Go Ahead Tours guided tour of Italy as an introduction to traveling internationally. The Italian people were very welcoming and we would highly recommend this tour to others. Italy is incredibly rich in history, culture, and spectacular architecture.
We chose this particular tour because every destination started with a tour guide and then included at least one free day where we were able to wander out on our own. We had the most fun roaming around the cities by foot on our own, trying to get lost, and mostly succeeding in that endeavor. We never felt unsafe, though of course, we still used common sense to avoid areas that seemed potentially sketchy. Of course, as with any tourist destination, watch out for the petty thieves and pickpockets; keep your valuables close and never hang your purse on the back of a chair.

ITALIAN NONNA Food Market Sulmona & Montepulciano Wine Tour
Day 4: Italy Unexplored
Visit to an organic market, local lunch on a private terrace and an exclusive visit to Zaccagnini winery for a seafood aperitivo to drool over at sunset with wine tasting by the bottle...
As the excursion in Abruzzo continues, we step into a beautiful old town oozing with history and famous not only for a rebellious Pope but also an interesting romance poet not to mention home to one of the most organic and oldest markets in Italy. First stop after strolling through the larger than life gate facing Naples is to the number one Porchetta stand in Italy. Seriously, number ONE. Here we get a taste of the moist pork and no matter the time, guests flocked over it for more.
We then visit many a Nonna who have spent years selling their fresh produce here, including dried herbs in recycled jars, and there's an overwhelming feeling that we wish we all had this in our own backyards with products quickly shown off by the locals.
Lunch is a sight for sore eyes upon the terrace of the number 2 B&B in Italy which is tucked away and shows off all three mountains of the green Abruzzo region. A 360degree view that will last a lifetime with food prepared by the owner and her mamma - all ingredients sourced right in the town.
As we head to Zaccagnini winery and most think there's wine tasting by the glass, we arrive to a warm welcome and get a sneak peek behind he scenes of their production, finding out more about the famous twig that adorns each bottle.
The day ends with fresh seafood tastings prepared and served by Vincenzo's Dad Paolo while the sun sets over the hectares of land taken up by lushes vines and we dance and drink the night away sharing bottle after bottle of incredible wine, carefully curated by masters... spontaneous dancing then followed dinner and we really never wanted to leave...

A Vespa allows you to experience the region better and be one with the landscape, because you're free, because you aren't locked up inside a car, and you feel more under your feet. This is why you should ride a Vespa. The reason to ride a Vespa should be to know more, satisfy your curiosity, meet people, learn about places. And if once in a while we sip a glass of wine, nothing will happen.

Pompei Apartment Tour in Naples, Italy Video Transcript:
Good morning guys. This is going to be our last apartment tour here on our trip in Europe because this is our last apartment we're staying in. And we've been staying in Pompei, Italy for a week. And we've done so many cool things using this as our base. But before I talk about that let's give you a tour of the actual apartment.
So here this is the door. If you take a quick peak outside you can see that we're staying in a house and there is a little table over here. Yeah, this is going to be a fast tour because we have a train to catch so luggage already out. Yeah, we're all set to go. We're late as per usual. So over here we had a cool table which we used for both working and eating. Um, up here some nice artwork. Very Italian. Yeah, and we visited basically the first week of December and so it was cold so we were making really good use of that heater over there.
Alright, on to the couch. So we just hung out and watched Netflix here. I love this panorama. Tada. Yeah, it is kind of a panoramic photo of Naples. Yeah, of Naples and you have the Bay of Naples and then off in the distance you have Mount Vesuvius. The imposing Mount Vesuvius. We went up there. That was a true highlight of our stay here.
Okay, let's quickly go into the kitchen. So into the kitchen here. This is yeah it was nicely fully stocked. We made full use of this. We were making our own pastas.
Okay so moving on so yeah this was basically a living area and kitchen and then in here we had uh a fairly spacious bathroom in terms of surface area. But maybe the world's smallest shower.
Okay this is the bedroom. Nice big bed. Again more artwork. And the most important thing in the bedroom was this. Heat. The heater. We would turn that on before we go to bed and sometimes we'd have it on at night while we were sleeping. Then over here we had a wardrobe and lots of extra blankets as well for winter.
Anyways, I'm going to sit down on the couch and tell you why I think Pompeii is kind of like the perfect place to base yourself when you're in this region of Italy.
So first before I forget let's talk about the price. So we got this place for $43 dollars (US) a night. Which I thought was an absolute steal with a weekly discount. It is offseason. We're basically in a house. We have a gate. It just felt very secure. It was quiet here. Really good location and keep in mind when we stayed for instance in Matera we were paying $70 dollars a night. Now the actual city of Pompei is really nice. It has a really nice um like downtown area. Some great restaurants that we loved. It is clean, it feels safe here. It just was a really cool place to be based because we were kind of literally at the halfway point between all of these things that we were doing while we were here. Yeah, so we took a lot of day trips. We ended up going to Sorrento in the south, then we had Herculaneum and Vesuvius which was slightly north. Yep. Then we also did Naples.
There is just so much to do in this area. LIke aside from what we did there was also the Isle of Capri which we didn't have time to do.
That is basically it from us from Pompeii, Italy. We've got a train to catch so we're going to say tata for now and we'll see you guys on the travel vlog which is actually taking us back to Canada. See you guys soon. Bye. Ciao.
This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.

Enjoy!
Being for centuries at the center of Italian history explains why this beautiful region has so many Unesco world heritage sights and iron-strong traditions.
Rustic farms, manicured fields, cypress driveways and roman-medieval-renaissance citadels overlooking vast green landscapes from hill tops.
1)San Gimignano
San Gimignano is a small medieval hill town in the province of Siena. Famous for its medieval architecture, preserved tall tower houses and encircling walls located on the top of a hill. Also known for it's San Gimignano wine, Vernaccia.
2)Agriturismo dell'Arnano (Agriturismo is a luxurious farm stay away from the city)
We chose to book a Farm stay away from the city noise and stress.
15 km from Siena, in the town of Sovicille
This agriturismo cost us 324 euros for 3 guests for 7 nights for a total of 15.5 Euros pp per night. That's insane!
3)Siena and it's Palio horse race
Siena is a city in Tuscany, Italy.
The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site.
It is one of the nation's most visited tourist attractions. Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio Horse race.
According to local legend, Siena was founded by Senius and Aschius, two sons of Remus and thus nephews of Romulus, after whom Rome was named.
Supposedly after their father's assassination by Romulus, they fled Rome, taking the statue of the she-wolf suckling the infants (Capitoline Wolf), thus appropriating that symbol for the town.
The Palio di Siena is a horse race that is held twice each year, on 2 July and 16 August, in Siena, Italy. Ten horses and riders, bareback and dressed in the appropriate colours, represent ten of the seventeen contrade, or city wards.
4)Monteriggioni
Monteriggioni is a comune in the province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany. The town hosts several piazzas and is referenced in Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Strategically positioned outpost later fortified to be the first line of defense against the enemy neighbor Florence.
5)La Speranza Restaurant
By far my favorite restaurant for its price and it's quality. Few tourists know about this place, mainly attended by local farmers, hunters, police officers, fire brigade, etc.
6)Castles around our farm stay ( Str. della Villa, 7, 53035 Monteriggioni Loc. La Villa SI, Italy)
If you go to Tuscany you'll find castles scattered all over the place just like these ones. This one is B&B “la torre della signoria”. Within walking distance is another castle called Castello della Chiocciola, named after it's spiral staircase.
7)Castellina in Chianti
Castellina in Chianti is a municipality of 2,800 inhabitants, located about 15 kilometres northwest of Siena. It is part of the Chianti Hills.
The first settlements date from the Etruscan age.
The city has roman and medieval details.
8)Cecchi Wine Tour
Pay a visit and enjoy:
-A wine tour of the vineyards and line of production executed by a professional master sommelier
-Wine tasting of 2 flagship wines and 3 premium signature wines
-Coupling of wine with food (aperitivo with locally cured meat and bruschetta)
-Olive oil tasting
