Bordeaux Tasting at Wine Watch

That's why we are so happy here at the Wine Watch, we're always drinking wine!! And we are starting out the New Year with one of our favorite subjects Bordeaux. The most expensive wines in the world come from this wine growing region located in the Southwest of France. Some of the cheapest wines in France come from Bordeaux as well and the wines are not as far apart as you would think in terms of the proximity from Pauillac to Bordeaux Superior! Join us as we explore the last few recent releases from the world's most famous wine region. With over 300,000 acres of vines Bordeaux is one of the largest in size. In addition to making some of the best red wines which Bordeaux is most famous for, they also make some of the most age worthy whites and arguably the best dessert style wines in the entire world in the Sauternes region.
We will have all three of these types of wines on the table this evening with close to 30 wines available from both the left and right bank. This will be a serious education as well as a chance to stock up on one of the most cellar worthy wines in the world.

This is a walk around tasting and is limited to 35 tasters, Wine Watch Caterings Toni Lampasone will be serving up a few small courses to accompany the tasting wines and the fee for this event is $45 + tax, for reservations call 954-523-9463.

In 1815, Guillaume Lawton said of Château Lafite, “I consider it to be the the most elegant and delicate, with the finest substance of the three (Premier Crus). The location of its vines is one of the finest in the Médoc”. In 1855 the Château was ranked as a Premier Grand Cru in the famous classification that was prepared for the Universal Exhibition of that year.

A deep bouquet of dark fruit and liquorice. The palate is full-bodied and already expressive, but then becomes tighter, expressing power and exuberance. The youth of this Lafite does not hide its energy, but the distinctive elegance and complexity are already there!

Rare vintage wines from Bordeaux at wine tasting of Yats in Manila

Fans of Bordeaux red wines were finally given a great treat by Philippines leading supplier of fine and rare vintage wines Yats Wine Cellars on 9th August, 2011 in an exciting wine tasting event held in Ortigas, Metro Manila featuring vintage wines from Bordeaux spanning 50 years.

Wines were organized into five groups by age, 8 years per group. Some of the oldest wines in the lineup were over 40 years old and all were not only fully enjoyable but still vigorous and showing distinction.

Although wine is rapidly gaining popularity in the Philippines, Manila wine lovers feel deprived because they rarely get to taste matured vintage wines. Bored with drinking young wines that are nowhere near their prime, many Manila wine enthusiasts have urged Yats Wine Cellars -- the only wine supplier that carries matured vintage wines -- to hold a public wine tasting event to enable them to savor some genuine classics from Bordeaux at their maturity. Yats Wine Cellars finally agreed to hold a tasting and kept its admission ticket to an unbelievably affordable price of just p1,300. In fact, one can pay only php900 if purchased in advance.

Here was the lineup of wines served on the evening of 9th August, 2011 in the wine tasting of 40 years of vintage Bordeaux at Oakwood Premium Hotel in Ortigas, Metro Manila.

These seminars deal with intermediate to advanced subject matters that are aimed at providing useful and practical knowledge for the wine enthusiasts. Topics are focused and treatment, in depth. Most seminars include a guided tasting session after the lecture.

Wine-paired dinners are organized either at Y A T S Restaurant in Clark or in collaboration with other restaurants and organizers. Private wine dinners can also be organized for groups of 14 or more. Even Asian cuisines can be a part of a Yats Wine-paired dinner.

Lauren and Nicko inherited a bottle of 1978 Bordeaux and were kind enough to share it with us! This wine is was produced at Chateau Lafite Rothschild, a producer of one of the world's most expensive red wines. It was such a fun experience to capture this on film with some of our best friends!
