Preserving traditional winemaking on Lanzarote
The vineyards of La Geria on the Canary island of Lanzarote are a treat for the eyes. Traditionally each vine was protected by a hand-built wall of lava rocks to shield it from the wind. But over the past five or six years the region has come under threat as farmers abandon the land and the vines have been neglected. TUI Care Foundation supports a project to preserve this cultural heritage of traditional winemaking, by developing ecological winemaking on the island and providing locals with disabilities new opportunities for employment.
Puerto Del Carmen The Strip
The main beach road in Puerto del Carmen known as the strip stretches from the old town harbour to the airport. The real name for the road is Avenida de las Playas which translated means Avenue of the beaches. Its 6 km follows the coastline from the main big beach in the centre of the new town through to the beaches of Los Pocillos and Matagorda This video is for fun, for you're enjoyment.

ABOUT PUERTO DEL CARMEN:
Puerto del Carmen is located on the south-east side of Lanzarote and is the longest established and best known resort on the island, in fact, most of Lanzarote's over 2 million visitors per year choose this town as their destination. In the 70’s there were only two hotels, the San Antonio (VIK hotels group) located at the Los Pocillos beach and Los Fariones (Grupo Fariones) situated near to the Old Town. Today, Puerto del Carmen has plenty of accommodation from apartments, impressive luxury private villas, to the newer hotels like Seaside Jameos Playa and Las Costas in Los Pocillos, Hotel Beatriz Playa or Las Gaviotas in Matagorda. The Avenida de las Playas, the main avenue, known by expats as The Strip, is accompanied by 6 km of beaches, starting from the Old Town all the way to Matagorda, close to the airport. Locals are friendly and are ready to help.
Puerto del Carmen consists of 3 main beaches:
Playa Blanca (also known as Playa Grande), this is the big beach, the best known beach in Puerto del Carmen, over a kilometre long with plenty of sunbeds, swan pedalos, water sports and a water park.
Playa Chica, this is the small beach close to the old harbour (Old Town) great for diving, scuba diving, flyboard, parascending, and jet skis for hire. Playa de los Pocillos, the widest and also over a kilometre long of golden sand with sunbeds.
Playa Matagorda, also a five star beach from which you can walk all the way to the airport, popular for plane spotting. Further on, at the end of Puerto del Carmen, you find Lanzarote’s dog friendly Guacimeta beach.
If you come to Puerto del Carmen try to be here for the best carnival in Lanzarote, a party that starts from 5pm till late, from Matagorda area making its way through the main avenue all the way to the Old Town. Puerto del Carmen also hosts another great event, known all over the world, the Lanzarote Ironman, it takes place each May, with the swimming starting at Playa Grande, in front of Linekers Bar, continuing with a bike ride around the island and finalizing with a marathon with laps from Playa Grande to Matagorda, making Lanzarote the destination for world-class athletes.
Reasons why you'd want to live in Lanzarote:
1. PARADISE IS NEARER THAN YOU THINK
Only four hours flying for all the mayor airport. Lanzarote is a unique island of extreme and unusual beauty. Amazing nature, dramatic landscapes, long sandy shores, a deeply rooted local culture and gastronomy, and above all a genuine respect for nature and its environment, all make Lanzarote an ideal destination to enjoy, and return to. Buying a property in Lanzarote is your best investment.
2. ENCHANTING BEACHES TO GET LOST IN ALL YEAR ROUND
Twelve month of the year sunshine. Lanzarote is home to spectacular crystal-clear waters and superb stretches of white, golden and black sand. Papagayo, Puerto del Carmen and Matagorda on the southern side of the island boast some of the best beaches and coves. In the north, you'll love the impressive beach of Famara and the ones in Costa Teguise, Arrieta, Caleton Blanco, Orzola and the island of La Graciosa.

[4K] Lanzarote Beaches (2019) Famara Lanzarote Surf Beach
Famara beach (Playa de Famara) is one of the best Lanzarote beaches. Not only is it long and golden, but it's the heart of the Lanzarote surf culture.
Lanzarote weather is good all year around, (as are the rest of the Canary Islands,) which is why so many people come to surf in Lanzarote.
(And if you're tried all the best Lanzarote beaches Costa Teguise has to offer, Famara is about a 30 minute drive.)
The beach is next to Caleta de Famara, a small town full of surf schools, surf shops and a few great bars and restaurants. We start our video here in Caleta de Famara before heading to Famara Beach.
