Things To Do In Valparaiso, Chile South America - Viña del Mar, Casablanca Wine | Travel Guide Vlog
Our trip to Valparaiso, Chile South America was beautiful. The Nature Healing Retreat - Chile experience kicked off in Santiago and we explored many areas throughout Chile. Santiago is a huge tourist destination and has a rich history and culture.
In this travel guide vlog we explored the colorful city of Valparaíso which is on the Pacific Coast of Chile. We drove to Viña del Mar for some AMAZING seafood and the views were incredible. We then traveled to the Casablanca Wine Region that's located directly between Santiago and Valparaiso. The trip ended at an eco-friendly built on the side of a cliff!

Day Tour: Valparaiso and Vina del Mar, Chile
Valparaiso and Vina del Mar can easily be combined into a day tour from Santiago. Excellent highways lead through vineyards in the Casablanca Valley until Valparaiso, around 1-1/2 drive from Santiago. Many tour operators in Santiago offer wine tours, Valparaiso only tours, Vina del Mar only tours and different combinations.
Valparaiso is Chile's main seaport and also where cruise ships dock. It is a very San Francisco-y city, even on a gloomy day where Vina del Mar was block after block of condominiums and apartments. Let's just call the day, an experience...

Vina del Mar (Vineyard by the Sea) & Valparaíso - Chile
Vina del Mar (Vineyard by the Sea) & Valparaíso - Chile
Viña del Mar, meaning Vineyard by the Sea, is a city and commune on central Chile's Pacific coast. Its long stretches of white sandy beaches are a major attraction for tourists. Known as La Ciudad Jardín (The Garden City). A major attraction is its Viña del Mar Municipal Casino founded in 1930, it is one the oldest gambling establishments in South America.
Visitors and locals enjoy the parks and water fountains of the city, including a large flower clock (Reloj de Flores) with its numbers made up of flowering plants, near Caleta Abarca beach. The Municipal Theatre of Viña del Mar, located in front of Plaza de Viña, is a center of cultural and artistic events of first importance in Chile. In the neighboring block is also the traditional and elegant Club de Viña, with its classical facade.
Valparaíso is one of the Chile most important seaports and an increasing cultural center in the Southwest Pacific hemisphere.
Valparaíso played an important geopolitical role in the second half of the 19th century, when the city served as a major stopover for ships traveling between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans by crossing the Straits of Magellan. Always a magnet for European immigrants, Valparaíso mushroomed during its golden age, when the city was known by international sailors as Little San Francisco and The Jewel of the Pacific. The golden age of Valparaíso's commerce ended after the opening of the Panama Canal (1914), as most ships sought to avoid the Strait of Magellan, and the port's importance and use was reduced substantially.
Several funiculars -- locally called ascensores -- provide public transport service between the central area and the neighbourhoods atop the surrounding hills, the first of which (Ascensor Concepción, also known as Ascensor Turri) opened in 1883 and is still in service. As many as 28 different funicular railways have served Valparaíso at one time or another, of which 14 were still in operation in 1992 and still around 12 in 2010.
Valparaíso was declared a world heritage site based upon its improvised urban design and unique architecture. In 1996, the World Monuments Fund declared Valparaíso's unusual system of funicular elevators (highly-inclined cable cars) one of the world's 100 most endangered historical treasures. Valparaíso was declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. Built upon dozens of steep hillsides overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Valparaíso boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestone alleyways, embodying a rich architectural and cultural legacy.
NEVER do this in VALPARAISO!!! (302 | Chile Travel VLOG)
1 October 2019 - Day 40 - Santiago to Valparaiso
VLOG 302
A rainy Tuesday morning we pack our bags once again and head west to the coastal port city of Valparaiso!! ???? ????
Just a short 1.5 hour bus ride away we escape the wet weather and enter the sunny bustling city and check into our hostel. With the main tourist part of town a good 2km away I decide to take a local bus to one of the main tourist hills - Cerro Alegre. Just before reaching the destination the bus decided to turn and headed up the hill - a place where tourists are cautioned even during the day in some areas!! ????????????♂️????????♂️
I anxiously wait and track the bus on my GPS as it went further and further up through the narrow local streets and shanti houses. About 30 mins into the bus ride I was nearly at the very top until I knew it wasn’t coming back down ????????. I confirmed with my the bus driver with a lot of arm waving and pointing at the GPS and fortunately he hailed another bus going the other direction and told me to go in that. You would believe the relief I felt as the bus made its way down back down!! ????????????????
I made it to my original destination safely but not before heading back up a little to an awesome viewpoint I saw on the way up. I will admit I was a little nervous, but no good adventure comes without uncertainly and a little risk. The little bus ride to where very few tourist reach and this viewpoint made for one nervous but exciting afternoon and paid off as I took Mav out for an awesome view of the city!! ????????????????

Huffington Post:
The city of Valparaiso Chile is one of the most popular travel destinations for travellers when visiting Chile. In line with the capital of Chile, and 2 hours towards the coast, Valparaiso Chile is one of the most unique cities to visit in Chile. The downtown or centro area of Valparaiso Chile is a network of streets and in all honesty, a dirty, almost ugly area but is full of character. What attracts people to Valparaiso Chile however is the street art which is located in the hills above Valparaiso.
(Travel Chile)
Above Valparaiso Chile are hilly streets and lined with beautiful coloured buildings and this is the main attraction in Valparaiso. In this video, I take a small tour around Valparaiso Chile and show off the city.
[Valparaiso Chile]
Make sure to visit Valparaiso Chile when travelling through Chile as it is one of the best places to visit in Chile.

Viña del Mar and Valparaiso, Chile
If Santiago is the financial and business hub of Chile then the coastal city of Viña del Mar is the country’s summer playground. Often referred to as “The Garden City”, Viña is part of the Greater Valparaiso area that also includes the nearby port city of Valparaiso, as well as the smaller municipalities of Concon, Quilpue, and Villa Alemana.

Valparaiso Chile - Free City Tour
City tour with Tours4Tips through Valparaiso Conception. Best way to get around all the hills is to use the Ascensors (Funiculars). There is only one real elevator which we also used.
This 3 hour walking tour from port to high hills will help you find your feet and lose your mind as you discover the Heritage Site of Valparaiso.
In Valparaiso it is easy to get lost in the maze of alleyways and street art. We lead you around not only enhancing your sense of direction but filling you with our knowledge and wisdom of locally named “Valpo”. An adventure that takes you through your senses of taste, smell, vision and laughter (ok that last one might not be a sense, but if it was it’s going to be tickled).
Today you will ride a 100 year old funicular, learn about Chileans favorite food and find out which Valpo street dog is called David Bowie. Find your local freelance Wally guide at Plaza Sotomayor at 3pm everyday rain or shine! If that wasn’t exciting enough for you to read, then get this, it is a pay-what-you-feel tour. The pressure is released, get your kicks on and enjoy discovering Chiles pride and joy!
Why take THIS tour, Why THIS us? Taking a wander with your freelance Wally guide is like hanging out with your older brothers cool friend, they know all the cool places in town! Find out where to eat, drink and party along with the little quirks of Valpo only a local would know. All this along with the town’s cultural, political, architectural and religious background.
It’s impossible to discover Valpo by bus or vehicle, walking is the only way to see the hidden gems. We choose our freelance guides on the basis of how much they love Valparaiso. If they convince us of this as well as making us laugh and feeling comfortable we know they can make you as passionate as Valpo as we are. If you aren’t convinced yet you can check us out on TripAdvisor, we have maaaad references! And if you still ain’t satisfied by the end, you don’t have to pay a single peso!
Who should NOT take this tour? If you hate meeting new people or seeing controversial if not a little offensive art then you are in the wrong place completely. Now that you are in a bit of a smaller town we like to be more interactive and friendly. In our tours people get to know each other and learn each other’s stories. If you are a more traditional type that likes a bright white clean house then you may not like Valpo. All the houses here look like they have been sprinkled on by a concoction of colour and art.

Valparaiso (Chile) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Valparaiso in Chile.
The city of Valparaiso or, Paradise Valley, is around a hundred and twenty kilometres from the capital of Santiago De Chile on the Pacific coast. The most important harbour city in South America has a long history and today boasts a modern, ever-expanding container harbour. Valparaiso’s strategic location brought it much power and prosperity. A narrow stretch of land along the bay became the city centre and today the Monumento De Los Heroes De Iquique is a reminder of the heroes of a sea battle during the Saltpetre War. Lovingly known as Ascensores, since the middle of the nineteenth century escalators have rattled up and down the steep hills of the harbour city. The descending cabin pulls the ascending cabin by way of a steel cable that is drawn over a large wheel situated at the upper station. Hundreds of colourful buildings extend over the hills and from above the bay it is like a vast amphitheatre that contains a busy harbour. Indeed, in 2003 UNESCO designated Valparaiso as a World Heritage Site and it is undoubtedly Chile’s pride and joy!

Valparaiso Travel Guide - Exploring Chile's Cultural Capital Video Transcript:
So, hello from Valparaiso. That means paradise on the valley. We have a few days to explore the city and we're planning to do most of it on foot. Yes, and most of it is going up hills as well. And there is so much cool street art here. So we're going to be taking a few different walking tours while we're in town. Today we're doing the first one which should be an overview of the city. And it should be fun. So we're going to take you on a little guided tour of Valparaiso. Yee-haw!
To say Valparaiso is a bit hilly would be an understatement. The city is a maze of steep inclines which means the best way to get around and save your legs for sightseeing, is by riding up and down the funiculars. It might seem a bit daunting considering some of these are well over a hundred years old, but they still do the job.
And this is our friend the pup who has joined our tour. She's the official bodyguard. And she knows where the funiculars are located so she took the stairs instead. Hi, pup. You're sweet aren't you? Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Yes, you are.
If we can offer one recommendation for visiting Valparaiso, it would be to join one of the free walking tours towards the beginning of your stay. This is a great way to get some background history and to familiarize yourself with the various neighbourhoods. The local guides know where to find the best murals, so consider this a scouting mission. You can always come back with a bit more time to explore the area with your camera in hand.
Apparently, there are 42 hills in the city and we're just exploring it for the first time today. And my first impressions are so much better now that we're seeing this cool part. It is so colorful, so artsy and lots of fun to check out. Exactly.
Another thing we really enjoyed about our walking tour of Valparaiso, was the company of all the dogs. Valparaiso has a lot of strays roaming the streets, but we found the dogs to be super friendly and affectionate. We also noticed locals feeding dogs.
We're having a little food break. I think we're going to try some empanadas. And I see that they have shrimp ones on the menu. Shrimp and cheese empanadas so those should be really tasty.
The harbor tours depart from Muelle Prat as soon as they get a boat-full of passengers. During the outing you’ll go past container ships, tug boats, and navy vessels, plus you’ll also have a guide on-board to point out sights along the way.
Viña del Mar is a super quick day trip from Valparaiso. The two cities are only 8 kilometers apart and you can easily get there with the above ground metro system that runs along the beach. It’s only a 15 minute ride, and it’s quite the change in scenery. Whereas Valparaiso is colorful, artsy, and gritty, Viña del Mar is a bit more chic and modern. That being said, while we enjoyed our day trip to Viña del Mar, we were really glad we decided to stay in Valparaiso as we felt it had way more character.
So our time in Valparaiso is coming to an end. What are your final thoughts of the place? Yeah, that is a wrap from here. I loved it here. It was one of the coolest cities that I think we've visited on this entire South America trip. We have to show you the views from our balcony. Look at that. You get to see the hills, the colorful hills. Bye Valparaiso.
Our visit Valparaiso travel guide covers some of the top attractions including the best in arts, entertainment, museums, nightlife and restaurants (Cocina Chilena). We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities that you won't find in your typical tourism brochure or Santiago city guide.
This is part of our Travel in Chile series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Chilean culture, Chilean arts, Chilean foods, Chilean religion, Chilean cuisine and Chilean people.
