88 year old Maurice crashed right in front of me while I was cycling through the tiny Village of Winfrith. Fortunately Maurice was fine and he proceeded to get his paper at the local shop with nothing but a scraped knee and a damaged pride.
HF Walks, 2, West Lulworth: Winfrith Newburgh Circular. 8/11/18.
Starting out from the car-park at West Lulworth again, it's around 9 miles of walking today. It's a gentle ascent up to the path crossing at 'Daggers Gate'. From here, it's across agricultural land; down into a valley and then on to East Chaldon, or Chaldon Herring. A bit of minor road walking then leads up to a ridge, for views on both sides. Lunch is had in the Lychgate of St Christopher's Church, Winfrith Newburgh, which is around the half-way point of the walk. Thereafter, it's on through the village, up past a Holstein Dairy farm, and along some greenways. West Lulworth and the coast soon comes back into view before the walker descends back into the village, past its church and back to the car-park. A decent walk, inland, away from the more popular coastal stretches. It was windy again, so there's some interference on commentary.
Commemorating 100 years since the Great War started
A video to commemorate and to remember those who lost their lives during The Great War ( the First World War 1914 - 1918). Inspired by the Commemoration Service at St Christopher's Church Winfrith Newburgh, and a visit to Tyneham Village Church.
STINSFORD CHURCH DORSET 19 07 2013
Where Thomas Hardy's heart is buried along with his family and wives.
swcwalks, swcwalk 16, Dorking to Reigate. 25/1/19.
This was another very decent shorter walk of around 9 miles. This time at the foot of the Surrey Hills, in the Mole Valley. Starting out from the station at Deepdene, the walker passes the Main station prior to a section of road walking. Arriving in more tranquil surroundings shortly afterwards, the hum of traffic is always present early on. Passing the golf club at Betchworth, there's a pleasant section of walking before arriving at the village of Brockham, with its restored water pump. Lunch is had at St Michael's church, Betchworth (whose lychgate is seen in 'Four Weddings and a Funeral'). What follows is the quietest part of the walk, but, potentially, the wettest. No issues today though. Passing through Skimmington, the walker eventually reaches a section of ridge walking in Reigate Park Hill. Passing the former Priory, it's on back to the station. A good walk that gives the walker a different perspective of Box Hill for a change. Certain sections are heavily eroded by horses and others are suspect to flooding. Alternatives are given in the good instructions, should the latter occur.
