Rolls Royce Merlin Engine on Trailer at the Wings Museum 3 of 3
2nd March 2019.
in 4k.
WW2 Engine Reborn - Buried for 70 years the story of Halifax JD150
The amazing story of a Merlin Engine buried in a bog for almost 70 years, recovered and rebuilt to run.
In 1943 a Handley Page Halifax Bomber JD150 was tasked to attack the German city of Hamburg. For some reason the aircraft strayed away from the main bomber force and was attacked by a night fighter. The Halifax caught fire and crashed into a bog. There were no survivors.
Most of the aircraft and the bodies of the crew were taken away but the four Rolls Royce Merlin XX (20) Engines were left behind. In 2009 they were recovered and taken to the Wings Museum in Sussex. Here over a period of several years one of the engines was rebuilt.
With its unique saxophone style exhaust the engine was run in memory of the crew in front of a gathering of bomber command veterans in September 2018.
Handley Page Halifax Mk 2 JD150 102 Squadron Royal Air Force.

GB2CPM Amberley Museum opens for the 2018 season
Amberley Museum and Heritage Centre in West Sussex opened nearly 40 years ago, and for almost all of that time it has had an amateur radio station on site.
The callsign is GB2CPM, with the CPM standing for Chalk Pits Museum. This was its original name which lasted until the mid 1990s; it then became Amberley Working Museum for a while until taking the name it uses nowadays.
The museum opened today (7 March) for the 2018 season, and the museum will be open to the public until the end of October.
Depending on the availability of volunteers, GB2CPM can be on the air at any time. However Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays seem to be the popular days at the moment if you want to catch us.
Visit amberleymuseum.co.uk for more information about the museum in general, and qrz.com/db/GB2CPM for information about the amateur radio station specifically.
Find Out What's New This Year At The Military Aviation Museum In Tangmere
During the annual close down period, the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum volunteers have been working behind the scenes to update some of their exhibits.
Including restoration work on one of their aircraft, which saw them having to create special tools to complete the job.
Our reporter Richard Stringer visited the museum to find out what’s new.

JAB Past & Present.107. Slindon. WW2 Air Raid Shelter.
Spent a very long time in thick fog trying to find this WW2 Air Raid Shelter. One of the sides was impossible to see because of the fencing and plenty of grass around and on top. Very big Shelter with metal bar across the entrance, maybe put there to stop people getting in, but not possible because of the barbed wire.

DEVIL’S DYKE is a legendary beauty spot on the South Downs Way. Only five miles north of Brighton it offers amazing views over the Weald and over the English Channel. The mile long Dyke valley is the longest, deepest and widest dry valley in the UK and the legend goes that the Devil dug this chasm to drown the parishioners of the Weald.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.
