Wings of Tatev is a 5.7 km cableway between Halidzor and the Tatev monastery in the Syunik province of Armenia. It is the longest reversible aerial tramway built in one section only and is officially recorded in the Guinness World Records book on 23 October 2010. The video is recorded while departing from the Tatev monastery on 23 August, 2012. The scenery depicts the Vorotan river gorge with the naturally formed bridge.

Tatev Monastery is located in Syunik Marz (region) of Armenia, 20 km from the town of Goris near the village Tatev on a mountain plateau near a cliff. Tatev Monastery was built in the IX-XIII centuries, although it was founded much earlier in the IV century. Tatev Monastery numbered about a thousand inhabitants and was the largest among 48 monasteries of the Syunik kingdom already in the 10th century. Tatev Monastery is part of a large tourist complex, which also includes the main church of the monastery Surb Pogos and Petros (Saints Peter and Paul), the gate church Surb Astvatsatsin, the abode of hermits Tatevi Anapat, the Wings of Tatev ropeway, the natural bridge Satani Kamurj (Devil's Bridge), the cave of Devil's Bridge and many other attractions.
For centuries, Tatev Monastery was the center of the struggle against Uniatism (in other words, for preserving the independence of the Armenian Apostolic Church), as well as a center of Armenian writing: here monks wrote new and rewritten ancient manuscripts. The library of Tatev Monastery contained about 10 thousand manuscripts, most of which were burned or plundered by the Seljuk Turks. The name of the Monastery Tatev in Armenian is translated as “give wings”.
In addition to the Tatev church itself, many interesting things are located on the territory of the monastery, and among other things stands out the swinging pillar: Gavazan (walking stick), erected in 906 in the name of the Holy Trinity.
This vertical octahedral column is installed on a kind of stone hinge (in general, intricacy of structure and quality of its performance inspire respect for the art of the ancient Armenian architects) at the slightest shaking of the earth (and even from a simple touch of the hand) it begins to swing. Gavazan warned inhabitants of the Tatev Monastery about earthquakes and the approach of enemy troops for centuries.
Also, be sure to visit Wings of Tatev which is the longest reversible cable car in the world. The Wings of Tatev ropeway was included in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010.
The cableway connects two villages: Halidzor located near the Yerevan highway and Tatev village near the Tatev Monastery.
Devil's bridge is another marvel of Tatev. Devil’s bridge of Tatev is a natural formation in the form of a bridge, along the Goris-Tatev highway.
The length of Devil’s bridge is 30 meters and the width is 50-60 meters. The mineral water flowing from sources in cracks of the rocks painted walls of the Vorotan Canyon in pink and yellow-green colors. For many centuries, limestone deposits of these mineral springs, so-called travertines, spread from one bank to another, forming a powerful stone arch over the Vorotan River. Huge stalactites hang down to the water at the edges of the bridge, and in some places, there are natural baths where you can swim. But the water is cold at any time of the year.
There is an abandoned monastery of the Holy Virgin built in 1660 halfway between the Devil's Bridge and the Tatev Monastery and a small bell tower, whose bell warned the monastery inhabitants for centuries about the approach of enemies.

The Tatev Monastery is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia. The term Tatev usually refers to the monastery. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River.
Tatev Monastery is in the centre of the Marz of Syunik, near the village of Tatev, on a cliff overlooking the right bank of the Vorotan River. Such a remote position was strategically favorable as the monastery was simultaneously the religious and political centre of Syunik Principality, and needed to be defended.

This is my last day in armenia and it was a good experienced while visiting this place. First, there culture amaze me more.. Second, the food was spectacular and tasty. Third, the locals are very friendly. Forth, the nature ohh well.. cant explain.. if u see there mountains, trees and flowers, totally beautiful paradise. In gods time, i will surely comeback here and stay more days. I really love armenia.. much loved!!

The Tatev monastery (Armenian: Տաթևի վանք Tat'evi vank' ) is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia. The term Tatev usually refers to the monastery. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Tatev is known as the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity.
In the 14th and 15th centuries the monastery hosted one of the most important Armenian medieval universities, the University of Tatev, which contributed to the advancement of science, religion and philosophy, reproduction of books and development of miniature painting. Scholars of the Tatev University contributed to the preservation of Armenian culture and creed during one of its most turbulent periods in its history.
The monastery is the best-known site in Syunik. Wings of Tatev, a cableway from Tatev to Halidzor village was opened in October 2010. It was included in the Guinness World Records as world's longest non-stop double track cable car.

Khndzoresk (Armenian: Խնձորեսկ, pronounced [χəndzɔˈɾɛsk]) is a village and rural community (municipality) in the South-East of Armenia, in the province (marz) of Syunik. The village is located to the right of Goris - Stepanakert highway, on the steep slopes of Khor Dzor (Deep Gorge), from which, according to tradition, it got its name. Crossing the bridge at the entrance of the village, the road continues towards the towns of Lachin and Stepanakert.

Tatev Monsatry (Tatev) is a masterpiece of confluence of ingenious medieval architecture and fabulous nature of Armenia. There is no doubt, that Tatev is one of the most spectacular tourist attractions on the Planet. Tatev was also widely regarded as one of the most famous spiritual and educational centers of the Middle Ages.
The Monastery of Tatev (Armenian: Տաթև) is a 9th century Armenian monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southern Armenia. It stands on a plateau on the edge of the deep gorge of the Orotan (Vorotan) River. It became the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a centre for economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity.
In its day the monastery itself had a population of 1,000 and owned 680 villages. A vast wealth. It was a huge center of learning, art and culture. The Tondrakians, a medieval Armenian hippie sect fought the church rule in widespread revolt, including those in villages belonging to Tatev, before finally being stamped out. In 990AD, King Vasak even burned down Tsuraberd village to end their revolt.

Tatev Monastery is located in the center of the Syunik region in southern Armenia, 30 km from the city of Goris near the village of Tatev, on the right, high bank of the Vorotan river. Before climbing this breathtaking height, one must descend into the five-hundred-meter Vorotan Canyon, stop at the Devil's Bridge, near the warm baths of mineral springs, where the two banks of the river converge and then, opening with each turn of the road uniquely beautiful landscape, get out of him.

Tatev Monastery got its name in honor of St. Eustatius: a disciple of the Apostle Thaddeus, who preached, like his teacher, Christianity, and who was martyred for the new faith, in the Syunik region of historical Armenia. The first church of the Monastery of Tatev was built in the X century. At this time a small number of monks lived in the Tatev Monastery. Tatev becomes the residence of the Bishops of Syunik in the thirteenth century.
Prince Philippos of Syunik built the church of St. Grigor Lusavorich in 848 (St. Gregory the Illuminator), he also donated the village of Tatev to the monastery.
The largest church of Tatev Monastery complex was built in 906: the Surb Pogos and Petros Cathedral (St. Paul and Peter), under the auspices of Syunik prince Ashot and his wife Princess Shushan. The architecture of the cathedral is somewhat archaic. It reproduces the type of domed basil of the XII century. However, it also has new side-chapels in the western part of the cathedral, the corners of which are used as dome supports.
Surb Grigor Lusavorich (St. Gregory the Illuminator) church adjoins the south side of the main cathedral. Surb Grigor Lusavorich church was built in 848, but rebuilt anew with the assistance of the King Smbat II of Syunik in 1047.
Among the unique works of architecture and engineering art in Armenia is Gavazan (walking stick), erected in 904 in the courtyard, near the residential premises of Tatev Monastery. This is an octahedral 8m high pillar, built of small stones, culminating in an ornamented cornice above which rises a khachkar. Under the influence of seismic vibrations of the soil and, even, from the simple touch of a human hand, the pole, thanks to the hinge joint, bends and returns to its original position.
Among the rare examples of Armenian architecture is the Gate Church of Surb Astvatsatsin built in 1087, representing a small domed hall with niches on all, except for the west, facades with a pointed umbrella overlap.
Tatev Monastery was attacked and plundered by Seljuk Turks in 1171, they set fire to more than ten thousand manuscripts.
The University of Tatev which was the largest center of philosophical and scientific thought of medieval Armenia operated in 1390-1435. The university was headed by prominent public figures Hovhan Vorotnetsi and Grigor Tatevatsi, who united the best intellectual forces of the Armenian people around the university.
