About
Winkleigh Cider Co is based at land originally owned by Inch's Cider. However, after Inch's was bought by Bulmers, it abandoned the site in 1998. Inch's chief cider maker, David Bridgman, decided to carry on a smaller scale and with some of his family bought part of the site to continue production.
Winkleigh Cider has grown steadily, increasing production and product ranges which include traditional ciders and scrumpies and today produce a cider called Sam's Cider, which is a tribute to Sam Inch, the founder of Inch's.
Their shop is open Moday - Saturday 9.00am -5.00pm and Sunday 10.00am - 1.00pm when you can sample their products. Between October and early December, you can also watch the apples being unloaded, cleaned, and pressed at the beginning of the fermentation process

Fine Cider Makers - Find & Foster, Devon
A visit last week to Polly & Matt Hilton at Find & Foster Fine Ciders down in Devon.
Historically an exquisite cider making region, and originally home to 19th Century cider merchant William Pullings. Devon has lost 90% of it's orchards since the second World War. Polly goes about finding those left, fostering them back to health, and crafting some of the finest ciders from them, served by the likes of Fera at Claridges.

Save RAF Winkleigh's Control Tower!
Winkleigh Airfield Control Tower stands as a visible relict of the WWII RAF base, is a scheduled monument, and has been derelict since 1990. It goes to auction on 22/09/2015. Exeter's Express & Echo columnist Gina Kennedy explains the plan to save it.
RAF Winkleigh was built in 1941, operational between 1942-1945 and was host to several international squadrons of fighters including:
· RAF 161 Black Squadron
· RAF 286 Squadron
· IX USAF Serv. Cmmd. 17th Service Group
· 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron USAAF
· RCAF 415 Swordfish Squadron
· RCAF 406 Lynx Squadron
· RACF 408 Goose Squadron
· Free Polish Airmen 303 Squadron
It's also believed that Joseph P Kennedy often visited the airfield while he was stationed at RAF Dunkeswell, and that the airfield was used for clandestine SOE operations that have never been fully revealed.
