Seattle Pike Place Market (Farmers Market) in Seattle, WA 2019 | 4K 60ᶠᵖˢ | Virtual Walking Tour
This is a virtual walk tour of the Pike Place Market (Public Market) in Seattle, Washington (US state) near Downtown Seattle and Elliot Bay Waterfront. It is one of the oldest running farmer's market operating in the United States.
Pike Place Market is a public market overlooking the Elliott Bay waterfront in Seattle, Washington, United States. The Market opened August 17, 1907, and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States. It is a place of business for many small farmers, craftspeople and merchants. Named after the central street, Pike Place runs northwest from Pike Street to Virginia Street. With more than 10 million visitors annually, Pike Place Market is Seattle's most popular tourist destination and is the 33rd most visited tourist attraction in the world.[2]
The Market is built on the edge of a steep hill, and consists of several lower levels located below the main level. Each features a variety of unique shops such as antique dealers, comic book and collectible shops, small family-owned restaurants, and one of the oldest head shops in Seattle. The upper street level contains fishmongers, fresh produce stands and craft stalls operating in the covered arcades. Local farmers and craftspeople sell year-round in the arcades from tables they rent from the Market on a daily basis, in accordance with the Market's mission and founding goal: allowing consumers to Meet the Producer.
Pike Place Market is home to nearly 500 residents who live in 8 different buildings throughout the Market. Most of these buildings have been low income housing in the past; however, some of them no longer are, such as the Livingston Baker apartments. The Market is run by the quasi-government Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA). Wikipedia

Tough Economy Hits Dairy Industry with One-Two Punch (#3521)
For the last 20 years, dairy producers have ridden an economic roller-coaster of price volatility. Just in the past five years, dairy prices have shot to record highs in 2007 before falling dramatically amidst a global recession in 2009.
According to Bob Cropp, an emeritus professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, overexpansion and falling demand sent the dairy industry into a tailspin.
Bob Cropp, Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison: The major factor was the loss in dairy exports. That's relatively new with the dairy industry because if you go back four or five years exports were incidental. Our buyers with the Asian markets, what have you, or Mexico, even our largest customer, exports all fell off and it was like putting another 5 billion pounds of milk back on the domestic market.
Collapsing export markets were the second jab of a one-two punch administered first by rising dairy inputs. Previously cheap feed for dairy cattle gave producers a reliable input price but uncertainty returned once skyrocketing grain prices ripped through the livestock sector.
Looking into his crystal ball, Cropp sees the coming years as an opportunity for an economic rebound in the dairy industry particularly in the Midwest.
Bob Cropp, Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison: There's some trouble areas out there but long term I come back and simply say that the economy will recover, rural exports are picking up. It's a bright industry for the upper Midwest. We'll come out of these tough times and so it takes some risk management skills but it's a pretty good industry.
Beach Erosion Solution - Innovative Solution of Contouring Seafloor by Lance Winslow
In this brief 10-minute talk, Lance Winslow of the Online Think Tank addresses some of the challenges with coastal beach erosion in the United States and how we might mitigate this in the future using mathematically designed submerged seafloor contours to modify the waves to deliver sand to the swash zones rather than allowing the sand to wash away.
Also discussed are the environmental aspects, Coastal Commission in California, challenges with Hurricanes storm surges, endangered species, and protective replacement as a barrier to future storms, Tsunamis and damage. At the end of the video Lance Winslow asks for your brain power and innovative ideas to make this a reality.

Hyperloop Technologies - The future is happening
The High Speed Train Dream and Vision for the Future Has Come Off the Track
By [ Winslow
Have we completely overplayed the socialist utopian dream of high speed rail here in the USA? The reason I ask, as un-politically correct as such an inquiry might be, is that we've spent huge amounts of money planning high speed rail to nowhere. Take the California high speed rail initiative if you will. They've practically spent a billion dollars having get-togethers, symposiums and studying the technology.
They've spent huge amounts in legal fees trying to get permission, file imminent domain actions, and telling farmers in the Central Valley who've lived there since the Smith Family brought in water, that a high speed train is going to cut through their properties and they'll have to deal with it, perhaps by driving 10-miles to cross a bridge and back with their farm equipment.
The Great State of Florida had already looked a high speed rail from Miami to Orlando to Jacksonville or Tampa and decided it didn't make any sense, this was during the Bush Administration. That's interesting because it is flat, and long distances in between. So if it didn't make sense there, it surely doesn't make sense to take a high speed train through Los Angeles suburbs, through mountains, to Sacramento and San Francisco. You can already fly to those places for around $125.
Still, how did we find $30 Billion in Federal Monies and $10 Billion at the California State level to do this at a time when both are in debt and have annual budget deficits, and neither can pass a balanced budget or any budget on time to save their butts? Well, it happened because big dreaming politicians wanted to do something big, to compete with other nations for the fastest rail lines.
In August of 2010 Ray LaHood of the Department of Transportation stated that in 25-years over 85% of the nation's cities would be connected to high speed rail. What sounded like a utopian world filled with hope and chain now sounds rather ridiculous. On September 13, 2013 the Wall Street Journal had an article that illustrated this fading of this dream; States Face Decision Day on Saving Trains - Federal Subsidies to Short Haul Amtrak Routes End October 1, 2013 - Indiana Weighs $3 Million Annual Cost of Service to Chicago, by Josh Mitchell.
One could ask a very simple question when it comes to fast train service like Amtrak; why don't we let the market place decide. Raise the price, privatize Amtrak and see if humans still want to pay the cost, if so, it survives, if not it fails. Something better takes its place. Consider the admitted crazy idea of Elon Musk's Hyperloop a concept which makes loads more sense than these high speed rail initiatives that will not even pay for themselves and will take people to places other than their intended destinations. Please consider all this and think on it.
