Wiouwash State Bicycle Trail (Oshkosh to Hortonville, WI) Part 1
Wisconsin’s Wiouwash State Trail is named for the four counties it passes through: Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca and Shawano. Currently, 41 miles of the rail-trail are open in two disconnected sections, separated by a gap of approximately 30 miles.
The northern segment spans 19 miles between the small towns of Birnamwood and Split Rock in Shawano County. The majority of the route is shaded by dense tree cover. In Eland, the Wiouwash State Trail links with the 83-mile Mountain-Bay State Trail, which travels west to Weston and east to Howard.
The longer southern segment extends 22 miles from just north of downtown Oshkosh to Hortonville. Scenic views of Lake Butte des Morts dominate closer to Oshkosh, while prairie remnants and farmland stretch out as far as the eye can see along the remainder of the trail. North of Larsen, the Wiouwash State Trail connects to the Friendship State Trail along US 10. That trail continues eastward to Menasha and its stunning converted railroad trestle over Little Lake Butte des Morts. Passage through the Rat River Wildlife Area also offers numerous areas for birding, canoeing, and hiking.
Tribal Heritage Crossing Trail (Oshkosh, WI) To Wiouwash Trail - Part 1A
In general, the Tribal Heritage Crossing Trail is a multi-use trail which connects eventually to the Wiouwash State Trail, which runs from Oshkosh, WI, to Hortonville, WI.
Originally opened in 1955, Lake Butte Des Morts causeway was in need of an upgrade due to the increasing traffic volume. The Wisconsin DOT built a eight-lane crossing by widening it to the west. The new causeway opened in July 2013 and provides increased safety and improved traffic flow.
As part of the US 41 project, the highly anticipated new causeway offers runners, walkers, bikers and in-line skaters the ability to cross Lake Butte Des Morts on a trail which connects to the WIOUWASH State Recreation trail on the north end of the Tribal Heritage Crossing Trail. The Tribal Heritage Trail provides access to fishing and kiosk overlooks for all 11 of Wisconsin's Native American Tribes with information on the natural history of those tribes.
The overlooks open a window to the water system with history that is remarkable. It is the ancestral home to Native Americans who have been here since the time immemorial. Lake Butte Des Morts is described as a vibrant river channel winding through a vast expanse of wild rice with fishing, furbearing animals and waterfowl. In the 1850's the waterway changed dramatically with an influx of new settlers and industry, including two dams on the twin lower Fox River outlets of Lake Winnebago

UW Oshkosh environmental studies grad helps area lake's conservation club thrive
You might say Kelly Reyer's workplace is not only miles from her University of Wisconsin Oshkosh alma mater, but it is also tastefully decorated with cattails and water features, has a lovely breeze and, one day, will feature a dynamic education center.
It's, essentially, Lake Butte des Morts.
Reyer, who graduated from UW Oshkosh in 2012 with an environmental studies degree, launched into a job as the administrative coordinator for the Butte des Morts Conservation Club. The nonprofit organization, founded and driven by a committed corps of volunteers preserving the ecology of their namesake lake, recently opened a rehabbed Terrell's Island breakwater recreational path. Among her other responsibilities, Reyer has been helping the Conversation Club get the word out.
The 3.8-mile-long loop that skims into Lake Butte des Morts southern shore west of Oshkosh is already proving to be a popular escape for hikers, bicyclists and other nature enthusiasts. And, as Reyer explains in this video, it will one day harbor an educational center where visitors can learn more about the Conservation Club's efforts to help wildlife and the lake's heritage plant life thrive for generations to come...
Mountain Biking Waukau 2018
My brother and I rode the trails in Waukau, Wisconsin. There aren't a ton of miles to ride, but it is easy to ride loops and get confused. There are some jumps and drops, but nothing mandatory or big. I'd recommend trying these trails out if you're in central Wisconsin. Especially since there isn't much else in the vicinity...

Glacial Drumlin Trail, Wisconsin paved trail run, wheelcam 3/11/16
This is a wheel cam view of the Glacial Drumlin Rail Trail. This is the trail from Waukesha, WI to a little past Dousman, WI. This is the paved segment of the trail, and it's also about 13.5 miles making it a good, long ride. I didn't want to go any further this day, so I stopped when it became gravel.
Also, my opening statement was.... well I didn't expect what happened. The camera segmented the run into 2 files, so I figured since I had to glue them together anyway, why not just add the overlay too. So there you are. Enjy the long play!
I live in Wisconsin, USA, and do most of my riding outside of Milwaukee. I like riding on the trails, but I do some road and offroad as well.
