Aldbury - Picturesque English village virtual walk
Today's virtual walk is in Aldbury. Aldbury is a village retaining several archetypal historic features. In the centre is a green pond; close by stand stocks and whipping-post, in excellent preservation, a primary school and the Church of Saint John the Baptist. In the days of Edward the Confessor the single manor (recorded as Aldeberie in the 1086 Domesday Book) was held by Alwin, the king's thegn. The Valiant Trooper has served as an alehouse for several centuries, the first traceable evidence dates back to 1752.
The ascent of the wooded slope towards the Bridgewater Monument is one of the steepest ascents crowned by a ridge with one of the five highest elevations in Hertfordshire.[4] Monuments in the church prove and witness the importance of certain manorial families including the family of Sir Ralph Verney, 1546, who has the northern Verney chapel in the church and the similarly landed family of Thomas Hyde, 1570, and George his son 1580.[3] Aldbury was the home of Sir Guy de Gravade, known as the Wizard of Aldbury, who was reputed to be able to turn base metals into gold.[5]
To the northwest of Aldbury, Aldbury Nowers forms part of the Chiltern escarpment and is traversed by The Ridgeway, an ancient track, and by two sections of Grim's Ditch, a linear earthwork thought to date from the Iron Age.

Drag Racing (1967)
Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
Several shots of drivers preparing themselves and their dragsters (cars) for a race at the Santa Pod raceway; men tinkering with engines; attaching parachutes to the back of the vehicles. The dragsters are wheeled to the starting point as commentator tells us the American Commando Drag Racing team prepare to blast off for a jet-speed duel with British dragsters. A man gets into a silver racing suit with futuristic helmet; nice C/U of two Americans (?), one drinks from a can of Budweiser beer (?).
Several shots of the elongated dragsters being pushed to the starting point by cars, then speeding along the tracks under their own power; the parachutes fly out from the rear to slow them down.
Note: on file are some press releases about this race. Cuts exist - see separate record.

Aladdin - Milton Keynes Theatre 2015
Priscilla Presley, Hollywood royalty, TV icon and, yes, wife of the King of Rock 'n' Roll, Elvis Presley, will be making wishes come true by bringing all the magic of the Christmas season to life as the 'Genie of the Lamp' in the most spectacular pantomime this side of the pond!
Aladdin is seasonal family entertainment at its best, and Old Peking is home to all the much-loved characters you could hope to meet in a Christmas show. Take proprietor of the local Chinese laundry, Widow Twankey, this Dame is something to behold! And played by actor, comedian and national treasure Gary Wilmot, you can guarantee that it will all come out well in the wash.
Adding 'Genie of the Ring' to his long list of credits, including dancer, choreographer, actor and director, is Wayne Sleep OBE, bringing an extra dash of sparkle to the stage with his magic moves.
You can't have Aladdin without 'a lad in' the show who will melt hearts, and singer/songwriter and former A1 boyband member Ben Adams definitely fits the bill!
Finally, silliness is a vital part of any panto - which is why we couldn't resist welcoming back the world's most famous ex-pat Armenian comedian Kev Orkian as Aladdin's cheeky (and, according to him, better-looking) brother Wishee Washee!
The best panto in the whole new world? Oh yes it is!
Don't miss out - Book early to secure the best seats at a great price!

How to Hang an Interior Door with Wickes
In this tutorial, our Wickes expert shows you the best way to hang a standard interior door.
Subscribe to the Wickes YouTube channel here:
For more Wickes home maintenance videos click here:
These are the steps for replacing an interior door:
1. Acclimatise the new door to your home by laying it flat on an even surface for three days inside your home and remove your old door.
2. Work out if your new door needs trimming by standing it up in the door opening and marking the top of the opening on the door with a pencil.
3. Take the door out of the doorway and secure in a work bench, then, transfer the measurement you took from the door frame to the bottom of the door and add 3mm before trimming away. To allow for clearance, trim 3mm off the top too.
4. If the width of the door doesn't fit measure the door against the frame and divide this measurement equally between the two sides. Trim this amount and an extra 3mm from each side for clearance.
5. Get the door in the position it will eventually hang by placing small wedges beneath the door, maintaining an even gap of about 3mm around the door and mark the position of the existing hinges at the bottom, middle and top onto the door.
6. Remove the door and position the hinges on the door using the marks you just made, drawing around their outline. Once you've done this measure the thickness of the hinge plate.
7. Use a chisel to cut around just inside the marked lines, then hold the chisel at a 45 degree angle to the door frame and use it to make stepped cuts to the required depth every 5mm.
8. Turn the flat side of the chisel towards the door and chisel out the recess for the hinge plate.
9. Using the hinge as a guide drill pilot holes into the door. Once drilled, carefully screw the hinge plates into place.
10. Pick up the door and place it in the position it would be if open at 90 degrees. With the door in this position, put a screw in the bottom hole of the top hinge plate and screw into place, then do the same with the bottom hole of the bottom hinge plate and one more time with the top hole on the top hinge plate.
11. Check that the door opens and closes without catching anywhere. If it catches mark the area, remove the door and make the necessary adjustments to prevent it from rubbing.
12. If the door shuts cleanly make any final finishes like painting and cut outs for latches if required before screwing in the remainder of the screws.

The Shady Truth Of Dollar Stores That No One Wants To Talk About
Dollar stores are everywhere in the U.S. today, and depending on where you live, you could even have more than one on your street. Whether its Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General, or some other 99 cent store, the dollar store business is booming. Ready for some mind-blowing statistics?
From toys to crafting supplies, there's an abundance of plastic for sale in dollar stores. And it's not particularly safe: A 2015 report found that a staggering 81 percent of plastic items in dollar stores contained at least one hazardous chemical. These chemicals have been linked to all sorts of concerning health issues, including cancer and birth defects. Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, for example, has been linked to asthma and lung effects, and was found to be in 38 percent of the plastics tested.
Some dollar store brands have pledged to remove the amount of toxic plastic in their stores. In May 2019, Dollar Tree — which owns Family Dollar, Dollar General, and 99 Cents Only — said that it would work to phase out lead and dangerous chemicals from its products, though the company hasn't laid out exactly what significant steps it's taking to filter hazardous chemicals out, or when it will happen.
Watch the video to learn the shady truth of dollar stores that no one wants to talk about!
