Roland Roberts: An English Elegy.

Roland Roberts b.1963 An English violinist pianist and composer. He trained at the Royal Academy of Music in London and later as a Fulbright scholar in the US. As a violinist, he has performed worldwide both as soloist and chamber musician and for the past eight years has been Director/violin of the City of Oxford Orchestra.
From his home in Suffolk overlooking the river Deben, he now divides his time between performing and composition and is currently working on a violin concerto

Roland has arranged and composed music for film and television and his English Elegy was selected as “pick of the week” on BBC Radio Suffolk. He has also recently been commissioned by the City of Oxford Orchestra to write a new work, Fanfare, Dance and Song for its fortieth anniversary.

From his 2005 album recorded with the 'The City of Oxford Orchestra' the title track An English Elegy'. If you like the great English classics especially by Vaughan Williams you will LOVE this! The whole album is superb and magical and with no better and more apt title as ''An English Elegy''.

Thatched cottages down leafy lanes, country pubs, cricket on the village green, gently rolling rustic shires and all things quirky.
We may see some things differently, but we all enjoy the peace and freedom once heroically defended by those men and horses who made the greatest sacrifice.

On this video with the coming of the 'one hundredth year' anniversary of the ending of WW1 in mind, we go on a very English journey. From Corfe Castle on the south coast to 'Sledmere House' on the East Yorkshire Wolds where the First World War 'Wagoners' and their horses are still remembered.
There are things that remain synonymous with our image of England, on this video there are pictured just a few. South Devon then features with images from the lovely Kingsbridge area beside the meandering River Dart with quiet village church yards and quaint thatched cottages. For those who love England and this fine music I doubt that any further description will be necessary for you will know and understand. We all can however appreciate the sacrifices made brave men and noble beasts to secure our freedom in order that we can enjoy the peace and tranquility of our lovely countryside.
