Grey Nurse Sharks - Wolf Rock, Rainbow Beach Qld. Australia
More grey nurse sharks...the critically endangered grey nurse shark has just finished the mating season at Wolf Rock. All the males have left and from now on for the next few weeks all the female sharks that are reproducing this year will head to Wolf Rock for their gestation period. During January & February we usually have around 40 - 50 sharks here.
Wolf Rock, Rainbow Beach. Two Days Diving
These clips were taken, over 2 days of diving, at Wolf Rock on the 31st of May and !st of June. We dove with Wolf Rock Dive located in Rainbow Beach, QLD.
Amazing dive site which hosts huge numbers of Grey Nurse Sharks. All big pregnant females. Also came across a school of Spinner Sharks, a couple Reef Manta Rays, Wobbygong Sharks, lots of Spotted Eagle Rays, schools of Trevally, Barracuda, Rabbitfish, Huge Queensland Groupers, Sea Snakes, Octopus, Tuskfish, Snapper, Coral Groupers. Pretty much endless marine species.

Wolf Rock. Diving with Grey Nurse Sharks
Last weekend I headed to the beautiful Rainbow Beach to Film, and Photograph the amazing Grey nurse shark at Wolf Rock.
Wolf Rock is located near Rainbow Beach, a small seaside community surrounded by the Cooloola National Park and on the doorstep to Fraser Island's Great Sandy National Park.
The grey nurse shark is one of Australia's most endangered marine species. These beautiful creatures were almost hunted to extinction during the 1960's due to its fierce appearance. In 2008, Three grey nurse shark designated areas, which are also green zones, were provided in the Marine Parks (Moreton Bay) Zoning Plan.
The Department of Environment and Resource Management and Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation first introduced fishing and diving laws in the Moreton Bay Marine Park and at Wolf Rock off Double Island Point in 2003 to protect the grey nurse shark and its habitat.
The grey nurse shark is Endangered in Queeensland (Queensland Nature Conservation Act 1992) and Critically Endangered nationally (Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999). It is also considered a high priority for conservation under the Department of Environment and Resource Managements Back on Track species prioritisation framework.
The grey nurse shark occupies the continental shelf from the surf zone down to 190 metres below sea level. They are often in or near steep-sided gutters with sandy substrate or rocky caves.
In this video, I've aimed to get up close and very personal with these sharks to give others a taste, on just how beautiful these misunderstood creatures really are!
Enjoy!

Wolf Rock - 27 January 2018
Second day of diving the Wolf Rock at Rainbow Beach with Wolf Rock Dive centre. Visibility a bit worse than on day one but still pretty amazing. The site has awesome topology and tons of large life, including my favourite grey nurse sharks which congregate there to gestate the babies. Among other things we've seen eagle rays, leopard sharks, a couple of inquisitive octopuses, school of jacks, an odd nudibranch or two and a variety of other fish. This is mostly a rock dive but it has some very pretty corals around the bottom of the rock walls. Would highly recommend and would definitely come back for more diving.

Wolf Rock 24 March 2016
Grey nurse sharks are back at Wolf Rock in numbers with about 20 or more found out there yesterday. Manta rays are being seen on every dive and we have had an escort of dolphins every day across the bay as well. Excellent weather for Easter and a couple of seats still available for tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.

Grey nurse shark at Wolf Rock with large stainless steel hook
A female grey nurse shark turned up at Wolf Rock yesterday with a very large stainless steel hook in the side of her mouth and line trailing. Looks like it has been there for while from the growth on the line. As the stainless steel hook won't rust away, looks like this poor girl is going to be stuck with it indefinitely. Hope it doesn't interfere with her feeding.
