This is a pleasant spot where you can enjoy a picnic or camp (free!) near the road from Blackheath to Megalong Valley. There is a gurgling creek, toilets, flat sites and above all the Australian bush with its sights and sounds
The cliffs at Tucker's Lookout at Medlow Bath are above you on one side and those of the Shipley Plateau are on the other, so if you enjoy exploring the bush this should be a good place for you.

Bikepacking Australia: Greater Blue Mountains Area
It is still frosty when I arrived at Lithgow State Mine Heritage Park. An absolutely fascinating industrial site which can be explored during the weekend.
Cruising Newnes State Forest is worth-seeing as different species of pines and eucalyptus trees grew here. A mixed of four-wheel drive track going to Lost City is a bit challenging, but in a distance, I can almost visualize the pagoda-like structure of eroded sandstone rocks that makes me wonder more.
Via Glow Worm Tunnel Road, I passed the Pagoda track that provides adventurers a chance to see gorges and other rare species of plant in the area. Upon arriving in my free accommodation campsite, I decided to take a walk and look at historic ruins to find out how it is used in the past. In addition, the place offers you a spectacular background of sandstone cliffs, roaming wallabies and firm grassy ground.
Situated between Garden of Stone and Wollemi National park lies Blackfellow Hands trail. An extremely key area for teaching and meeting of wiradjuri people. To see the stencil art made by Indigenous Australian people was truly a great experience to remember.

Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley
The Wolgan Valley is formed by the Wolgan River in rugged mountainous country west of Sydney and north of the city of Lithgow. It flows broadly east until it joins the Capertee River, after which it becomes the Colo River. The latter then continues east through rugged wilderness country. The Wolgan Valley includes sections of the Wollemi National Park and the Gardens of Stone National Park.
The valley was inhabited by Indigenous Australians for thousands of years, but the First European settlement occurred around 1823, when James Walker used the valley as an outstation from his Wallerawang settlement. It is best known for its historic railway tunnel and the former Commonwealth Oil Corporation shale oil mining operations at Newnes.
The Railway tunnel formed part of a 50km long heavy haul line between Newnes and Newnes junction on the main western railway. 4 heavy Shay type locomotives were used to haul the products of the works at Newnes up grades as steep as 1 in 25.
The name of the Wolgan Valley is derived from wolga, a local Australian Aboriginal language name for the climbing plant, Clematis aristata, found in coastal regions of the South-East states of Australia.
Within the Wolgan Valley there are several significant Aboriginal sites. These include Blackfellows Hand which is a collection of Aboriginal hand stencils located near Wolgan Gap, and several Aboriginal burial sites.
The bush walking trails in the area include the Pipeline Pass, which goes from Newnes to Glen Davis,[2] and the Wolgan Valley Heritage Trail (see links below), as well as the track from Newnes to the Glowworm Tunnel. There are also camping grounds that are open to the public. The valley also contains numerous slot canyons and is popular for rockclimbing.
Commercial tourism came to the valley in 2009 in the form of the Wolgan Valley Resort and Spa. This project was opened by Emirates Hotels and Resorts after examining several sites in Australia.[3]

Newnes Campground & Lost City | Wolgan Valley, New South Wales
Newnes Campground:
Welcome to Mother Nature’s amphitheatre. Dramatic sandstone cliffs and proud eucalypt trees make for a majestic backdrop at this beautiful, grassy, flat campground by the Wolgan river. Pitch your tent/camper for free before heading out to explore the tracks, tunnels and ovens of the historic shale oil ruins nearby.
Glow Worm Tunnel:
Glow Worm Tunnel (400m) walking track is the fastest and easiest way to experience the wonder of this historic tunnel, lit by thousands of glow worms. It’s a favourite with visitors to Wollemi National Park, near Lithgow.
Lost City:
The Lost City lies just a few kilometres north of Lithgow. It is a series of unusual pagoda structures that resemble an old decaying civilisation swallowed by the wilderness. Some Pagodas look look like old castles, others like apartment blocks and some even look like houses with thatched roofs. Fire trails lead to the Lost City but require serious 4WDs.
