Calgary Art in Public Spaces
As Calgary celebrates public art, Encana is happy to see Jaume Plensa's Wonderland, a stunning sculpture located in front of THE BOW.
The Bow Opens: sights and sounds
The tenants – Encana and Cenovus – are all moved in. Plensa's Wonderland sculpture graces the entrance. So on Tuesday, it was finally time to officially open The Bow - Western Canada's tallest office building. Here is what it looked and sounded like.
Wobbly test flight around The Bow's Wonderland
fighting a northerly wind bringing in a winter storm front, no gps signals available, and a tight area to work in with the head, the trees, and the tallest building outside TO to deal with in the dark of the early morning.

Lake Louise
Lake Louise is named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939),[2] the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria and the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
The turquoise colour of the water comes from rock flour carried into the lake by melt-water from the glaciers that overlook the lake. The lake has a surface of 0.8 km2 (0.31 sq mi) and is drained through the 3 km long Louise Creek into the Bow River.
Fairmont's Chateau Lake Louise, one of Canada's grand railway hotels, is located on Lake Louise's eastern shore. It is a luxury resort hotel built in the early decades of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway.
Moraine Lake and Lake Agnes are also accessible from Lake Louise.
Activities
A variety of hiking trails exist around the lake. Hiking trails include trips to Saddleback Pass, Fairview Mountain (2,744 m (9,003 ft)), Mirror Lake, Lake Agnes, Big Beehive, Little Beehive, Devils Thumb, Mount Whyte, and Mount Niblock. Some of these trails are open to mountain biking and horseback riding, and the surrounding mountain faces offer opportunities for rock climbing. Kayaking and canoeing are popular activities during summer, and a boat launch and rental facility are maintained on the north-eastern shore.[3]
The nearby Lake Louise Ski Area, formerly known as Lake Louise Mountain Resort, offers amenities for alpine and Cross-country skiing, as well as heli-skiing and snowboarding. The lake can be used for ice fishing and ice skating in winter, while the surrounding area offers settings for snowmobiling, dog sledding, snowshoeing and ice climbing.[4]
The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is a Fairmont hotel on the eastern shore of Lake Louise, near Banff, Alberta. The original hotel was gradually developed at the turn of the 20th century by the Canadian Pacific Railway and was thus kin to its predecessors, the Banff Springs Hotel and the Château Frontenac. The hotel's wooden Rattenbury Wing was destroyed by fire on 3 July 1924, and was replaced by the current Barrot Wing one year later. The Painter Wing, built in 1913, is the oldest existing portion of the hotel. The Mount Temple Wing, opened in 2004, is the most recent wing and features modern function facilities; these include the Mount Temple Ballroom.*wiki

Calgary's Wonderland, parkade park, and Stephen Ave bike route
A quick lesson in urban design, via Calgary: architecture, public art, street design, and public spaces.
The Bow. Named one of the top 10 architectural projects of 2012 by Azure Magazine.
Calgary's Wonderland, a privately-funded public art installation with creative input from the City of Calgary.
Also: a chainlink fence, a field of gravel, a park, and the entrance to a parkade (Calgary-style: hint, it's very different than Edmonton-style).
And finally: the 8 Ave cycle track, along its pedestrian/bike-only Stephen Ave section.
Note the clear width (without lamp posts, signs, road closure notices, etc.) of the sidewalks everywhere, even when half the sidewalk is blocked by construction fencing.
Music is Kris Demeanor's Bring Our Boys Home, about Calgary's suburbs, which do their best to compensate for Calgary's core.
