Dragons Back, Tai Tam Mound Waterfall, Mt. Butler, Wong Nai Chung Reservoir - Hong Kong
Hong Kong Trail - stage 8,7,6,5 - in total 25km.
I started off in Chai Wan mtr station, through the Chinese cemetary, and making my connection at Pottinger Gap (Ma Tong Au), with stage 8 of the Hong Kong Trail.
Then walking along the famous Dragon's Back (stage 8), which on this Sunday, was crowded but it was beautiful, landscape wise, hence the crowd I guessed. A windy and cloudy day over Hong Kong. View from Shek O Peak is stunning.
stage 7, at Shek O road down to To Tei Wan Tsuen all the way to the Tai Tam Tuk Resevoir was easy walk and has it own beauty.
stage 6, gorgeous waterfall hidden below the trail, the freshwater of the Tai Tam Mound waterfall sustains fish and other aqua life. Absolutely beautiful. Unease transport but worth visiting just for the waterfall. This stage also covers all of the three Tai Tam Reservoirs. a slight uphill 'til Quarry Gap (Tai Fung Au).
stage 5, steady ascent of stairs from Quarry Gap. Beautiful view from Mount Butler (Pat Na Shan). connects with Wilson Trail for a short-while. Finishes off at Wong Nai Chung Reservoir.

ULTRA HD 4K HONG KONG TRAIL WALK (HIKE FOR BEGINNERS) - TAI TAM COUNTRY PARK
#hiking #4khike #4k #trailwalk #hongkongtrail #hongkong
Welcome to our Ultra HD 4k Hong Kong Trail Walk in Tai Tam Country Park. This is an easy hike for beginners, or a good hike for kids or elderly.
'Tai Tam Country Park (Chinese: 大潭郊野公園; Jyutping: daai6 taam4 gaau1 je5 gung1 jyun4) is a country park in the Tai Tam area in the south end of Hong Kong Island. The park was expanded to near Quarry Bay in 1979. At 1,315 hectares (3,250 acres), the park consists of one fifth of Hong Kong Island's land mass.
Tai Tam (Cantonese pronunciation: [tàːi tʰȁːm]) or Tytam is an area in Southern District on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. Tai Tam means a big pool in the Chinese language which illustrates a triangular bay, namely Tai Tam Bay between Stanley Peninsula, D'Aguilar Peak and Tai Tam Tuk ([tàːi tʰȁːm tók̚], lit. innermost of Tai Tam, also known as Tytam Took). The meaning of Tai Tam varies greatly between the early colonial days and the present day.
The present-day Tai Tam is the area around Tai Tam Tuk, the location of Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir. It is covered by the Tai Tam Reservoirs, the Tai Tam Country Park and Tai Tam Country Park (Quarry Bay extension). Along Tai Tam Road are some luxurious apartment towers and houses.
The innermost of Tai Tam Bay is Tai Tam Harbour, close to Tai Tam Tuk. The Red Hill Peninsula just south of Tai Tam Road is an area of low-rise luxurious apartments and houses.
Tai Tam Scout Centre is a Scout campsite of The Scout Association of Hong Kong on the shore of Tai Tam Harbour. From the campsite to the foot of the dam of Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir is the Tai Tam Village. The shore outside the village is mudland with some mangrove plants.
The Tai Tam Reservoirs (Chinese: 大潭水塘), also known as Tai Tam Reservoir Group, is a group of reservoirs located in the Tai Tam Country Park in the eastern part of Hong Kong Island in Hong Kong.
The reservoirs consist of:
Tai Tam Upper Reservoir (大潭上水塘), 22.260°N 114.210°E
Tai Tam Byewash Reservoir (大潭副水塘),
Tai Tam Intermediate Reservoir (大潭中水塘) 22.246°N 114.210°E and
Tai Tam Tuk Reservoir (大潭篤水塘) 22.243°N 114.220°E.
The upper and byewash reservoirs are jointly known as Tai Tam Reservoir (大潭水塘).
The planning of the reservoirs is known as Tai Tam Scheme which was started early in 1872 and was shelved 1874 because of economic depression. The scheme was continued later in 1882 and virtually completed in 1888. Yet again, the supply was proved insufficient and the building of the Tai Tam Tuk dam began in 1912. The four reservoirs have a total storage capacity of 6.2 million cubic metres.
The reservoirs are surrounded by Mount Butler (畢拿山), Jardine's Lookout, Violet Hill and Mount Parker, with an extraordinary environment of peace and quiet.
The reservoirs are managed by Water Supplies Department of Hong Kong Government.
In September 2009, the Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail was opened, touring the architectural landmarks of the reservoir system. Placards in describe the features, giving insights into the work involved in the construction of what the source of most of Hong Kong Island's fresh water supply.
A restricted road, Tai Tam Reservoir Road, links reservoirs from Wong Nai Chung Gap to Tai Tam.'

Description
Hong Kong trail section 5 & 6 Victoria Harbour to the left, South Side to the right
Section 5 of the Hong Kong trail boasts views that would be hard to beat anywhere in the world. It’s a steep climb, first up to Jardine’s lookout and then to Mount Butler but the path is wide open for most of the way with sweeping city panorama’s on your left and mountains and reservoirs to your right. Section six is an easy decent through the lush Tai Tam valley as you weave through the four reservoirs on your way down to Tai Tam road.
Find Tai Tam reservoir road, just past the cricket club on Wong Nai Chung Gap road and head up till you see a big sign for the Hong Kong and Wilson Trails. The two trails run together for the first part as you make your way up to Jardine’s lookout. Bear right where the two trails part and follow the signs up to Mount Butler. From there steps will take you down to a small park. From here on in the trail is not marked. Bear right down a road to Tai Tam reservoir then continue down Tai Tam reservoir road. Look out for a sign on the left (it’s not obvious) that takes you on a small path to Tai Tam road.
