Mewstone Island, Wembury, Nr Plymouth, Devon. UK
This tiny island (approx 250x200m, but steeply rising more than 50 m asl) ~600 m off Wembury Point was inhabited. Admittedly, the first documented resident was there as a punishment, having been sentenced in 1744 to 'transportation' (somewhat cheaper than sending him to Australia). At the completion of his 7-year sentence he and most of his family left, but his daughter, 'Black Joan', remained, eventually bearing three children on the island.
The last of several subsequent residents was Samuel Wakeham (and family), who served as warrener for the Langdon Estate in the early 19th Century and was responsible for that odd cottage, plus steps cut into the rock to assist landings by visitors. Unfortunately, he was also a smuggler; caught, he was returned to the mainland and the cottage was never again used as more than a day trippers' shelter.
Note that Wakeham wasn't the person 'transported' to the Mewstone - too many people seem to conflate two entirely different stories!
In 1940, an old holiday camp on Wembury Point became a naval gunnery school, designated HMS Cambridge from 1956, which obviously prevented anyone entering the line of fire to visit the Mewstone. The resulting environmental protection was continued after HMS Cambridge was decommissioned in 2001, as 30,000 individual donations enabled the National Trust to buy the island and maintain a policy of excluding all but ornithological researchers.

Wonwell Beach, River Erme Estuary, South Devon
Filmed during the spring of 2011 Wonwell beach is at the mouth of the River Erme in south Devon, England.
Even with people walking dogs, canoeing or just making noise it's amazing the amoung of wildlife you can see on the river. You will ocassionally see white egrets fishing as well as their larger cousins the grey heron.

Plymouth's Secret Beach
My friends’ little boy and dog Gizmo lead us down a steep path to Bovisand Beach just outside of Plymouth in Devon where I grew up. My college friend shows me the path upon which she used to ride a horse, but once on the beach there is some more animal handling to take care of when Gizmo the pug gets temporarily stranded, in a dogs’ size world that is, on some rocks as the tide begins to come in. #toddlerandpug #toddlers #pugs

Mothecombe Beach, River Erme Estuary and Wonwell in Devon by Drone 4K Mavic Pro Platinum
Lucky enough that my stay at the nearby The Ivy Barn in Holberton coincided with some surprisingly warm April weather so I could get out and take a some shots on my Mavic Pro Platinum of this beautiful area. Great couple of beaches with a nearby cafe and lying on the South West Coast Path.

Mewstone Island, Wembury Nr Plymouth Devon - DJI Phantom 3 Pro
A flight from Wembury Beach to the Mewstone (and back again).
Flying from Wembury Beach rather than HMS Cambridge adds a couple of kilometres to the flight but made it more exciting for me!
The Phantom 3 reached a speed of 16 M/S (35 mph) on the way out to the island, but only managed between 9 & 10 M/S (21 mph) on the way back because of the off-shore breeze.
As it was my first flight out there, I came back early but I'm not unhappy about that as it was easily the longest distance away I have ever flown - over 2KM away! (1.3 miles) which is right at the edge of the stated range (1.2 miles)
I'm hoping to ge back again and do a proper fly-around to try to make a 3D map of the place.
