The main Tara mantra is the same for Buddhists and Hindus alike: o? tare tuttare ture svaha. It is pronounced by Tibetans and Buddhists who follow the Tibetan traditions as o? tare tu tare ture soha.
White Tara is the goddess of universal compassion who symbolizes virtuous and enlightened activity. The word 'Tara' is derived from the root 'tri' (to cross), for she helps living beings cross the Ocean of Existence and Suffering. Born from the tears of Avalokiteshvara, Tara's compassion for living beings is said to be even stronger than a mother's love for her children.
Tara (Sanskrit: tara;, Drolma) or Arya Tara, also known as Jetsun Dolma (Tibetan language:rje btsun sgrol ma) in Tibetan Buddhism, is a female Bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism who appears as a female Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism. She is known as the mother of liberation, and represents the virtues of success in work and achievements. In Japan she is known as Tara Bosatsu , and little-known as Duoluó Púsà in Chinese Buddhism.
Tara is a tantric meditation deity whose practice is used by practitioners of the Tibetan branch of Vajrayana Buddhism to develop certain inner qualities and understand outer, inner and secret teachings about compassion and emptiness. Tara is actually the generic name for a set of Buddhas or bodhisattvas of similar aspect. These may more properly be understood as different aspects of the same quality, as bodhisattvas are often considered metaphors for Buddhist virtues.
The most widely known forms of Tara are:
Green Tara, (Syamatara) known as the Buddha of enlightened activity
White Tara, (Sitatara) also known for compassion, long life, healing and serenity; also known as The Wish-fulfilling Wheel, or Cintachakra
Red Tara, (Kurukulla) of fierce aspect associated with magnetizing all good things
Black Tara, associated with power.

A LITTLE ABOUT THE AREA: When the first Hawaiians migrated north, South Point at the foot of Mauna Loa is likely the first land they saw from their double hulled voyaging canoes. The Ka'u coastline is truly a majestic sight.
The Ka'u district, which is the southernmost area of the Big Island and the southernmost tip of the U.S, is still a real estate frontier. This is largest district in the State, but the least populated.
HAWAII VOLCANOES: At the northern boundary of the home lies Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, undeniably volcano goddess Pele’s domain ... And speaking of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, most visitors would be wise to forget anything they've seen or heard about the volcano long before they visit the island. The erupting volcano photos, the videos, and all the hype about lava everywhere are just that ... hype -- at lease at present. The media and the park create impossible expectations as they try to draw in the public. Most visitors will be surprised that Kilauea is nothing more than a smoking caldera with no visible lava. The only way to get up close and personal with the volcano is to take a helicopter tour that will take you over the current eruption location. Occasionally visitors may also be lucky enough to catch a surface pahoehoe lava flow near the end of the road; but all of these things can change in an instant. Most of the lava/magma is flowing underground to the ocean. Those who have an appreciation for geography or geology will love the park though. Despite Kilauea being the most active volcano on the planet, the volcanoes of Hawaii are nothing like their cousins on the west coast (Mt. St Helens or Mt. Rainier). They are not explosive and pose little threat to visitors on the island; and lava flow move at a turtle like speed that you could walk if necessary, no running required. (

Home to several large rural subdivisions created by real estate developers in the mid 1900s as well as historic and culturally significant small villages, Ka'u embraces a very diverse population, many of whom are committed to keeping country country.
Recent proposed resort developments have met with strong community resistance, giving rise to active community groups dedicated to preserving the legacy of ancestral places and the old Hawaiian ways.
Located deep in the hills of Ka'u is Wood Valley, where in 1980 His Holiness the Dalai Lama consecrated and dedicated the Nechung Dorje Drayang (??spell check?? :))) Ling Immutable Island of Melodious Sound as a Buddhist temple and retreat. Farther south, along the highway, are the small villages of Pahala and Naalehu. Farther still are the subdivisions of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Hawaiian Ocean View Ranchos, Green Sand, Mark Twain and Discovery Harbor.

People are always asking me about the vog here in Hawaii, especially if they are interested in buying property in Hawaii. Since I sell real estate, I thought it might be nice for people to be able to see what conditions are actually like here in Naalehu, so I have been posting semi-weekly posts describing the conditions in this area..
