The 2013 Visit Lodi! Tourism Advocate of the Year is Ken Nieland for his contributions to tourism in Lodi. Ken Nieland took the Sandhill Crane Festival from a small committee to its own non-profit group. The Sandhill Crane Festival in Lodi, California has people flocking in from across the United States to get a glimpse at the splendor of the majestic migratory birds. Ken also served as the Director of the Micke Grove Zoo which houses an exotic display of animals from Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches to the spry Lemur.

Merced National Wildlife Refuge
Merced National Wildlife Refuge is part of the San Luis National Wildlife Refuge group in California's Central Valley between Los Banos and Merced, California. It is a winter home for many migrating species, especially Sandhill Cranes and Snow and Ross's Geese, but is the year-round habitat for a wide diversity of birds and wildlife.
