RAF Woodbridge & Bentwaters
As seen on SkyEye Britain - LAUNCHING IN EARLY 2013! - skyeye-app.com
Known to the Americans as the 'Twin Bases', these former RAF airfields played a key role from the 1940s to the early 1990s. More recently they've become the focal point of British UFO conspiracy theories!
Bentwaters Airforce Base Woodbridge Suffolk 81st Fighter Wing
Royal Air Force Bentwaters, now known as Bentwaters Parks, is a former Royal Air Force station about 80 miles from London and 10 miles from Ipswich, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. It was used by the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War, and by the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Cold War, being the primary home for the 81st Fighter Wing under various designations from 1951 to 1993.
Woodbridge Tide Mill
An example of 17th century technology that survived well into the 20th century. An excellent restoration job funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the efforts of a team of dedicated volunteers have resulted in a fine and interesting tourist attraction. This material was shot completely ad hoc, handheld on my Panasonic DMC-TZ80, at up to ISO800, so it's all a bit wobbly and grainy!
Bentwaters. Ex USAF cold war air base in Suffolk UK
In 1981 - 82 I worked on the American Air Base USAF Bentwaters as an apprentice electrician. It was an interesting time. I took the opportunity to go on a walk round the airfield, organised by BCWM (Bentwaters Cold War Museum) It was a long walk, nearly four hours, but very interesting to see it now. A lot still remains. Here is the video of my trip.

Woodbridge Sites
The town of Woodbridge in Suffolk has had a rich and exciting past, having experienced Roman occupation for 300 years, as well as being an important area during Anglo-Saxon times. Nowadays it is also a busy market town with a lovely thoroughfare. Check out
to see some of the commercial properties there.
The town is also close to the Sutton Hoo burial ship which is the most important Anglo-Saxon site in the whole of England. The local museum is well worth a visit since there are many replicas of the finds on display there.

Woodbridge Tide Mill from the air
woodbridgetidemill.org.uk/
At Woodbridge Tide Mill, man has worked for over 800 years harnessing the totally reliable and predictable green energy from the tides to drive a mill producing flour and animal feed. This was the last commercially working tide mill in the UK and it has now been restored to working order.
